still my choice of transport... motocycle is indeed a cheaper option for commuters with small budget... kup the best choice

Depends some riders might have small income, but they willing to spend most of the money on his/her bike. Passion and stuff ^^

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

There's no category for those earning below $30,000 cos the whole point of the poll is to show that people who ride bikes can also be well off?

So what if the person rides a bike and is well off. So what if people say bikers are poor people. Why have to bother with such people to begin with.

Need to start a thread to prove ?

If he S&ucks as a person, it doesnt matter if he drives or rides or is well off or poor. If he su@cks , he Su#cks, period....having the dough makes no diff.

This thread to me seems more about the insecurities of a biker by being afraid to be thought as poor. That in itself is already worse than being poor.

Let's do a poll to see if the stereotyped thinking that bikers are poor people is true or a myth.

Take part if you have a bike and ride at least once a week.

Is there a need to quantify ?

I ride because I feel like riding.

What others think of me riding a bike doesn't matter to me.

When I am on my bike, I just concentrate on the road. :)

Ouch! I agree...

Well many people cannot afford a car, or "rather save up with a bike", but that's also considered "not rich" in many ways than 1. But at the same time, "poor" is just a general term and is very subjective. Is someone who earns millions but has no/lack of time, family and friends richer than one who doesnt reach 30K per annum but has plenty of the latter?

The poll's minimum is 30K and to me it's aggressively biased (perhaps TS wants to really prove we're not poor), and further dampens the esteem and feelings of those who really cannot afford many things in life.

At the same time, if we really can afford less of what the bigger rollers that bang in the cash, then we have to face it and there's really nothing wrong with being "poorer" than others.

I do agree with you, but seeing as I'm not the thread starter, there's no need to direct your comments at me eh? I was only trying to explain what I thought was the starter's intention of polling the riding community.

I dont think he quoted you to direct it at you... Seeing from the post. It's more like using as a reference or misquoted.

IMHO, I think that coming up with this thread is nothing wrong. Sharing opinions with everyone here is actually healthy. The ts might have this feeling of people being stereotyped towards bikers and its better he/she gets a 2nd opinion rather than bottled up inside.

And i feel that there is nothing to prove to the world that bikers aren't poor. It all lies on that particular individual if if he/she wants to look up or down on bikers. What bikers should focus on is to be safe, avoid accidents, ensure your pillion safety, keep the bike in good condition and last but not the least thank god that you have a transport....

i know too many people who owns a car and become a slave to one. i am a biker who takes vacation 3, 4 times a year easily. no, i am not poor like most of you, it is our passion that makes us choose a 2-wheeler over a car. i think it will take some time before car owner population in singapore warm up to that idea.

Salve to one....

Well 5k per month for a basic car...

Some said...Your save bet is the total price of a car you can afford is your annual earning based on 10% of your pay...So 10 years loan....You do the math...

But many dont heed for this advice...

Well....3-4k per month seem to be well paid....

But after having a car which need 1.2k or so....And after CPF ...not much more left....

and in general, it's safer to drive than a bike...... bikes are more prone to accident coz we're out in the open..... let the drivers say what they want, poor or anything, but when comes to massive jam, we rule.....

unless u have side boxes like me, stuck in the jam on small roads with the 4 wheelers

But still, the width of your bike with the side boxes(how ever big they are) is still smaller than a 4-wheelers width..... and i'm pretty much sure you dun always wait behind them but find an opening right?

Yeahh.. Cannot wait.. But still hv to be careful... Drivers sumtimes don care about u.. They purposely squeeze so tat u cant go thru..

hahaha............whether Im on the bike or not, im always on the look out for openings

small road i never squeeze, the bike at over a meter in width is very tight coming round cars and i wont want to hit any mirrors.

when im driving i also dont want bikes hitting my mirrors, its my policy of do to others what you expect others to do to u.

and when they dont, let all hell break loose

Most motorcycle 'experts' in Singapore :

1) Do not own a motorcycle

2) Never ride a motorcycle before

3) Never been a pillion before

4) Usually gather with other similar experts to trade opinions on motorcycles

5) Cannot tell what is a NSR and CBR...some even say TZR.

6) Think most motorcycles run 80km per litre

7) Thinks any smoke from exhuast pipe means motorcycle is spoilt

8) Does not understand why a motorcycle can travel on 1st lane

9) Thinks Honda Vtec came first from car, not motorcycles.

10) Only knowledge about motorcycles are harleys are loud and Ducatis are not cheap. (But still tink 1 crap car can buy 4 Ducatis)

Then you will know why I rather own 2 DRZ400SMs than a car. For that matter.. I have never owned a car in Singapore.

The actual cost of a car is cheap but its been over marked up and taxed.....

true, SG cars are over-marked, for me is bike first then car, but i haven been finish in bikes yet.

after i see ur post, makes me feel like getting a drz:cheeky:
