Ron, find out what was the last thing you did then see if that is causing the problem

Sounds like jetting to me.

Bike is still so new but you might wanna take a peek at your air filter.

did u remove the side stand switch?

if u tried to engage gear when the side stand is down, it will cut off the engine.

another thing is the vacuum hose connected to the petcock. make sure it's clamped properly to the petcock.

these are wat some of the TT dudes suggested.

just wanna add..have u removed dat clutch and kick stand switch? might accidentaly activated it...or pinched wiring....might even be like water in carby, dirty filter..I would even think to check ur fuse connectors..Lastly, inspect ur rectifier connector at the frame...see if dat helps bro...

to those riding DRZ400SM, can anybody tell me wat is the stock gearing for your bike? comfortable cruising speed before it gets too 'buzzy'? thks..

15 front 41 rear stock. Just got my rear changed to 45 today. stock chain too short so had to get it changed as well. feels better then stock that's for sure. :lovestruck:

I have the same problem too right from the start when i got the bike stock. Apparently it happens after the bike is left parked for sometime and during mornings while warming up. All you need to trigger it is to open throttle very slightly and the bike goes dead during idling.

Rick knows how to kill the engine just by blipping the throttle at the exact timing while the bike is idling in neutral. He showed me the other day when i was at his place having the MCCT installed and he assured me that most DRZs have this problem. I wonder why? :giddy:

Can i also check with all black SM riders out there if they have plastics that don't line up? I've seen a couple and seems like they don't. Especially the airbox part connecting the rear fender. Most yellows do not have this problem. Puzzling! :giddy:

Blipping floods the carb. You gotta open throttle smooth smooth.

Oic, maybe i didn't make myself clear enough to Rick hence the misinterpretation.

My problem is like wat you've just mentioned. I just need to start up my bike and after a couple of mins of warming up, i'll kick down to first gear and open the throttle smoothly and the engine just dies off. Please note that it's not becos of improper clutch control as it also happens in neutral when i try to accelerate the warming up process by slighty turning the throttle. btw, i've had my clutch and kickstand restriction removed too.

Anyways, it seems to have gone away of late.

btw, thks to those who provided info too :cheer:

anyway, i also experience the throttle then enigine dies off thing, the bike is fully warmed up, that's for sure, seems like all DRZs have this little problem....luckily the frequency of it happening is not too high! :giddy:

Hi Thomas, 90 is no problem but there seems to be a slight buzz from coming from the handlebars at ard 95 onwards. I used to be getting that around 100+. Must be the taller gearing causing higher revs but i'm still able to maintain 120 comfortably. Top speed is no concern for me as i hardly go abt 110. :D
