I don't agree. His loss was completely needless and unnecessary. What fool would design a track for motards, with no run-off, with a tire wall merely feet away from the end of the finish straight, when the bikes are travelling at their fastest? As usually the case among amateur race organisers - participants enter at their own risk.

Yes agreed! The track every runoff is hell for a rider to slow down or control. Big stone, brick, rubbish, stick, uneven ground and etc...if fall, bike n rider also jialat!

In Macau they race superbike without any run off area or even tires

in macau it is a street circuit ... it is understandable but purpose built track should have better design.

I agree each of us races at their own risk and each of us accepts it however we should demand better track design, point out deficiences effectively do what is in our power to reduce this risk

Granted. But in the Macau GP, all the entries feature professional riders who are more than likely to have cut their racing teeth in much safer environments. Tuas is different. On any given weekend, you will find newbies and beginners who go there because it is too dangerous to race on the street. Think about the irony in that.

We have lost a good friend and a talented rider, who was to begin his debut year in MSS Superbike in 2009. We should be determined to see much improved (safety) changes at the circuit so that his loss will not be in vain.

"Remember Marcus!" we cry out. But have we learned? Have things really improved for us riders?

It is my hope that sometime in the future, we can look back to this day as the beginning when Singaporean racers and riders would demand, and get, good minimum safety standards from event organisers and track owners.

God speed, Feroz. May you eternally rest in peace. :(

now a racetrack is suppose to be a safe place for bikers to go to and test their machines and their riding skills. It also encourages people to take the racing off the streets. I have never been to tuas circuit before so cant comment, but run off areas are a must!! Whether it is a trackday or a raceday it should be conducted in a safe manner, no matter what. Everyone is going there to have fun even on races, no one is going there to risk their lives. Go to Phillip Island, Laguna Seca and even Pasir Gudang, it is all design to be a safe and controlled place to ride fast.

how much run off area is enough? i had my fell at sepang turn 3 run off area(huge) and went right to the end, bang into metal wall, and my 160kg r6 airborned and landed on me...but i am lucky enough to share this now. do we need a runway?

a death could have been prevented if there was more run off area OR if the rider hadnt looked behind.

a year earlier, a death could have been prevented if a rider hadnt done a stupid stoppie at a finishing line.

as much as safety at venues can be improved, as much as experienced riders guiding younger riders how to improve their corners and lines, pls also teach and emphasise track safety as much as possible. lets not keep learning from someones death.

i understand, but you could also see it in a way that without those runoff areas you might not be able to share it now. And well you cant prevent everything but at least it can help in some areas.

It's appropriate that I have my short say since I've talked to him in a few occasions and that when I logged on to MSN this evening, where his nickname should have been has been changed to something that shocked me.

He's a very humble, and sociable guy; enthusiastic and determined racer the other.

Someone who has a positive attitude, nothing seemed to stand in his way.

He's going to earn my utmost respect, as with the late Marcus.

He's covered in tonight's 11.30pm news on SURIA. Mother claims that the ambulance used had faulty/non working equipments onboard. Medic also removed his lid without any supporting neck brace while in ambulance. Go watch the news. 11.30pm on SURIA :(
