There were some riders complaining that their voltmeter being stolen, is there any better security for it then should you install on your bike?

drill a 52mm hole into ur fairing and install the voltmeter flush with the fairing.

to answer the question of whether a voltmeter is useful or just plain waste of money. it's useful to have but you can still live without one.

correct,bro..there's no anti-theft installation even like Wai who mentioned drilling onto fairing but once again i can pry it out using a flathead screwdriver rite..??Basically its juz a device to monitor ur charging of ur batt for an ease of mind, knowing whether is ur batt still gonna work it out for u..cheapo meters like Autogauge doesnt realli monitors ur batt exact voltage, perhaps for cosmetics lor..

U happy,got money,u install,it's good..

Not happy..or boh lui..then no point..??

It would be better to install an ammeter in this case. As you would not know whether the amp for the motorcycle is enough. Voltmeter only shows whether the bike is charging or not charging.

What's next?

Maximum demand meter?

Real power meter?

Reactive power meter?

Power factor correction?

Standby generator with ATS?

hehehehehe

yea bro, hope i dun get sued by them..haha personal opinions..they do provides a wide range of performance monitoring gauges but if u're realli looking into serious stuffs there're better wans on the market available..autogauge more into 'testing' water in ur area where u parks ur bike whether is vandalism or theft rate rife oni..after dat then install gd wans :thumb:

is there an amp meter for bikes ?

Can get from accessories shop for cars. Besides, some cars install ampmeter for monitoring the load of the whole car when install a lot of accessories.

If everthing OK,

When bike off - Voltmeter will show battery voltage

When starting the bike - Voltmeter will show zero or very low voltage

When bike running - Voltmeter will show higher than batt voltage

If rectifier or alternator gone,

Voltmeter will show battery voltage if engine running, slowly the battry voltage will drop and drop as the lights, etc, drain the battery.

To check the alternator, need a 2nd Voltmeter (ac one) to measure the voltage been generated.

If battery gone,

The voltmeter will show a lower than normal voltage, even after the engine has been running for some time.

An Ammeter measures the current I don;t think it will be so helpful.

The battery is there to provide power for the starter motor. One the engine is running, then the alternator and rectifier take over. The alternator generates ac voltage, the rectifier converts this to dc voltage.

In terms of current drain the following require the most current -

Starter Motor

Front Headlamp

Rear Headlamp

I can always designa simple circuit that will monitor the alternator and rectifier, and tell you OK not OK.

There will be 2 LED's.

One for the alternator and one for the rectifier.

If everything OK, then they show green.

If something wrong then they indicate red.

Metal is a very good conductor. The best electrical conductor is gold, silver, copper, alumium, tungsten, iron.

However when you heat metals up, their conducting properties start to deteriorate. And when the engine is running, it gets hot as does the frame.

So the grounding leads are used to ground up the bike electrical systems. As the leads are away from the engine, they not heat up.
