If you gotta choose between a Suzuki or a Ducati, then by all means save yourself the headache and get a Suzuki. For the machine price of the 2nd hand 749Dark, you can get yourself a brand new K5 with insurance.

But if you decide to go for Ducatis, then be prepared for the high cost. Regular maintenance costs $300-$400 for the 10,000km service, and around $700 for the 20,000km service. This is double the frequency of any other class2 bikes out there.

It's really cheap if you can DIY.

At 20,000km, my pair of timing belts cost abt $150.

Throw in oil change 4 bottles of Motul 300V and oil filter change abt $100.

Time and effort of DIYing priceless...

As for valve cleareance, I was *told* the valves are pretty much quite strong.

Normally, doesn't need to adjust them. Dunno how true this is but maybe someone can confirm in yahoo group?

Anyway, this valve clearance thing looks damn cheem to me.

Anyone DIY???

So not really that expensive what.

How do you change the gaskets for the cam covers?

I think belt covers still can DIY, but the valve covers need gasket sealant. Need shim remover also. I read the procedure for 2 valved motors, should apply for 4 valvers too.

cash transaction no prob.

anyone with good advice on the M900, i'm all ears.

Trottle, go get the BIKE (UK version) magazine this month. Its the one with the Duc 916 on the front cover... in one of the pages, it does mention about the M900 and what to watch out for in 2nd hand ones. :)

overall, this is quite a good bike. quite difficult not to wheelie... :lovestruck:

Thanks for all the advice!

to me, the Monster feels like a very nice bike to play with.

but it is by no means a powerful animal. on the run, any jap sports will trash it, i believe.

i like it becos it is small and nifty, go for just going to the supermarket on a lazy day when i dont want to drive and find parking..can just ride and chuck.

The monster M400 can go surprisingly easy to go fast on twisties, I'm sure the M900 would be even more fun :thumb:

Every 10k servicing involves the below

- Valve clearance check (it's a ######)

- Check on timing belt to evaluate whether need to change *Critical*

- if 5k km oil change interval, time to chane engine oil/filter as well

- Good time to clean your K&N air filter or buy new one (Stock is disposable)

Every 20k servicin involves the below

- change timing belt *critical*

- miscellaneous maint( brake pads, engine oil, rebleed ur fluids etc etc)

Critical thing to look out for is the timing belt.

They are rubber type as used in cards and if they snap, you can

kiss your valve train and engine good bye. :weep:

HI Ducatis fan,

I'm attracted to Ducatis ever since my school days. To me it is the ultimate "2 wheels Ferarri" . During my recent trip back to Singapore from Tapah, I have the honour to meet some Super bikers from the penisular of Malaysia. The basic technology of the Ducati really impressed me. Just to share with you guys about my trip report. Well done Ducati.!

Trip report :

While I was in Tapah petrol kiosk on my way to KL,

> I managed to meet up with 5 Malaysan Super bikers.

> They are Ducatis Multistrada, Aprilia RSV1000, CBR

> 1000, Duke and Grand canyon. I would say mostly are

> big Vtwins. All alone with full riding gear. Did

> some small talk about bikes with them. Quite

> friendly almost.

>

> We decided to move off together after pumping some

> tar into our lungs.. The move off was impressive..

> VROOM VRoom the sound of the wise Italian bikes..

> Before I managed to change to my third gear, I'm

> already smelling their burnt octane 97..Wow they are

> really fast..

>

> Initially, i decided to take it slow as the

> weather was scorching hot.. As they pulled further

> into the"horizon" , I decided to full throttle. I

> rode at a obsence amount of speed for about 5 mins,

> only able to catch the view of the reflective

> exhaust tip of the Multistrada. "Slice the Ducati at

> the speed of 200km/hr as he slowed down. I assume

> that he couldn't tahan the strong wind blast as he

> was the slowest of the pack.. By then I tilted my

> award winning, wind cheating designed front wind

> shield almost to 90 degree.. Rev up to 8500 rpm on

> 5th gear.. Odometer and engine screaming the hell

> out of me.. At the speed of 245km/hr for about 3

> mins..There the story goes...Still can't see them..

New adventures created when you ride your bike....
