Sometimes

We just don't appreciate those people who really care for us

Until they leave us

Until we lose them

Then we regret

Outer beauty doesn't matter; it's the inner one that counts

It's better to tell someone how much you love them

Jus my 2cents. . . jus to share my thoughts cos all these makes sense to me. . .

In my honest opinion, i find that chain lubes actually gives me a false sense of security. . . true we can see the lube on the outside but what about the insides? The critical wear areas are on the pins between the link plates. Over time & usage, the lube in there will wear down & loose its lubricating properties. . . What if we only lube once a mth cos we can still see lube on the links?:giddy:

That brings us to another point. How do we get the lube in between the link plates? The only way is to let it seep in. . . Now try spraying abit of the lube on the wall. . . does it flow? Get my drift? Therefore it's important to spray ur lube on a warm chain so as to decrease its viscosity(flow better) and let it flow/seep between the links.

For myself, i believe in using EO. Not sticky(won't attract dirt) and can seep between the links to lube the pins. . . although it will require more frequent applications.

Peace. . .

Gear oil still the best .....every 500km lube once ...after rainy day lube once ...

the only catch: rear rim and swingarm gets quite dirty but some using a brush and some CIF during cleaning will do the job.....

am using Honda Org Sprockets and did X ring 525 series for coming a year le. No tightening done at all.

try at own risk bros.

my 2 cents worth..:thumb:

Anyone used Break Free oil on your chains before? The army is using it for our M16s and SAR21s to lube and clean various weapons. Since I saw on the bottle that it's reccomended for automotive and motorcycles as well I decided to gave it a try.

I must say it's really amazing! My chain was real black and dirty and there was all that 2T, grease and tar stains on my pro-arm and they all came off when I used the break-free oil! Now my chain is gold in colour instead of the usual black....then sprayed Maxima chain wax....still looks like brand new after 2 weeks on the road....best part, it doesn't attract dirt and sand but i must say as it is applied using brush, it flings...

But hey IMO it sure does do like what it says, Clean, Lube and Protect. Best part, it's made in USA and to Military specifications....now my chain is mil-spec clean haha :thumb:

Anyway my friends who saw it and I was so fascinated, I did a little research, check this out, Harley Davidson USA uses it on their motorcycle chains, so does General Motors, the US Army to Coast guard...and now our SAF....check it out below....now must go find the distributer in Singapore...

i guess there are 3 types:

- normal heavy duty

- O ring

- X ring

supposedly X ring can last longer

so it depends on what u mean by "better".

cost of chain + sprockets depends on the quality of the parts + for which bike model

different bike models have different chain and sprocket sizes

:goodluck:

I saw a shop in Marsiling selling sprayed on White Lithium grease for $10. The instructions says it doesn't fling or dries up. I have used this kind of grease before in my workplace machineries - its really premium stuff compared to normal grease or lube oil. Anyone tried on their bike chains?

there's even T-ring/Y-rings and Z rings.

Read bout them usually in racing-related mags.

Should be ex stuffs la!

X-ring will last longer than an O, the O will last longer than the heavy duty.

also the heavy duty would be more prone to chain slack, follow by the O then the X.

Grease is the last thing you should put on a chain. It will coat the chain but won't penetrate and end up corroding the chain inside out. Oil is still acceptable, downside is that you need extremely frequent application. The key to a good chain lubricant is the ability to penetrate deep into the links, stay on at extremely high speed and temp, and won't attract abrasive grit. Grease can't accomplish any of these criteria.

being the budget conscious motorcyclist, i have always been skeptical abt lub n wax n what not.

i wash my chain using only soap to avoid damaging the o-rings. next, i use left over EO to lub the chain. this is done by using a small paint brush (like those u used in arts n craft lesson) dip it with EO n go into each individual pins, left n right side. after tht i apply another coat over the rollers.

my chain is pretty clean all the time but requires more frequent application, once or twice a week depending on how much i ride. cheap n gives me something to do every fri evening. =)
