Is Ah-boy's helmets really lousy?

 

Why come to some, who cannot afford a very high end, branded helmet.

 

Will always ask poor chap like me to get a helmet's from ah-boy.

 

Think ah-boy sell helmets which are nice, good and cheap for me at least.

 

n of there r expensive ones i believe.

 

Remember in those good old days, when come to getting new helmets, the 1st place in mind is L.A.B.

 

Maybe am just a cheapo. haha

A helmet can save yr head in a crash. Bro in law had a bad accident at PIE. His arai FF was in a state where the TP said "Lucky he wears this helmet"

i beg to differ..

i used ah boy helmet, with psb sticker, with properly strapped on (the double d thing) had a big crash, hitting a five tonner rear. the impact was great but my helmet was still secured to my head due to the double strap thing.

its just the matter of proper protection. ensure helmet is snug, not loose and properly strap. the doctor told me that my helmet (yes, not arai or shoei but lab ones) save my head from further damage and he said its because i worn the helmet proper, not because i used an arai or shoei..

my 2 cents worth and from my horrendous experience.

I would ride a Wave 110 to work everyday over an R1.

 

R1 hot, crappy in street heavy traffic, high fuel consumption, and I have to hunch over the tank.

 

The Wave is so much easier to live with in town.

Be it wave 110 or R1, both are bikes and riders are still subjected to the same risk when they are on either one.... Btw, nothing in my post suggests that a rider life is worth any lesser than a car driver...... Just maybe riders are exposed to more risks...... Hence, if u chose to ride, why not spend more to protect yourself?

actually a full helmet with psb sticker is good enuff... to mi, those high end helmet is only known for its name n light weight... anyway, i believe LAB will become a high end helmet too if rossi or whoever use it in motor GP or maybe F1... imagine those singtel gers promoting LAB helmet...??

if u got the extra $$ to spend, get atleast a fullface helmet..b it OGK,MHR,Shoei or Arai..as long as it covers & protect ur whole head..if u dont haf the extra cash to spend, den get something which looks decent & atleast PSB approved..u won't wan to lose ur life bcoz of a wrong choice of helmet

Ya, i was so used to wearing FF and when i left my helmet at my frenz place and wearing open face these few days, i find so exposed and scared.. Actually FF for me i think feels safer then open face.. After surviving 1 bad crash with and open face, i can tell you tat FF really really really is good.

Only those who have crashed with an open face helmet will realise how little protection it gives when compared to a full face helmet... regardless of price or brand.

 

A close friend of mine lost all his front teeth and split his chin in an accident many years ago. Since then up till today.. he only wears a full face helmet.

 

Those who like to wear open face helmets will only realise the value of a full face helmet after an accident.

 

Hopefully it is not a lesson that came too late.

When i said $600 - $700, i mean the cost of a reputable full face helmet... what has it got to do with getting a car? I dun understand why there are people comparing helmets to cars.....U mean u can get a car for just $600 - $700 one off??

i did mention that IF YOU CHOSE TO RIDE, at least spend more to protect yrself.....

 

The difference between a FF helmet and a open face hemet is subjective to individuals... To me, the protection is multiplied in terms of coverage of face and better cushion... An accident can take many forms and when u are in the midst of it, it is hard to predict where and how much the impact point is.... hence, the best is still to be protected fully........

Tell that to a friend of mine who faceplanted himself while wearing an open face.

 

Visor cracked inwards cutting him diagonally across the face. Permanent scar.

 

 

So what next? You gonna tell me that scars look fierce on guys? :lol:

Of course you can die even with a better helmet.

 

But having better gear reduces the chances of permanent injuries or death from crashing.

 

It's just whether you want to invest in it, or bother to wear it.

 

 

Talking about cars.... there's also safety involved. And you CAN die driving a cheap "open face" standard car.

Ya, wear half face helmet might as well dont wear.

 

I have a couple of full face helmets which i have crashed with. The damage on the helmet would have completely destroyed a person's face
