Comex 2009

This year, Comex will be the biggest I.T. fair that has taken place here.

Starting tomorrow (10 Sept), visitors wil be able to see the latest gizmos fron printers, digital cameras, to netbooks spread out over 5 floors of exhibition space.

That's Levels 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6.

The 820 exhibitors is also the largest number of salespeople. Visitors can expect a buffet of discounts and promotional goodies as the competition heats up for the consumer dollar.

There's also a lucky draw where the winner will walk away with $200,000.

Melvin Koh, general manager of Eastern Directories - the company that heads Comex, adds, "The appetite for digital entertainment is growing by leaps and bounds and mobile PCs and other on-the-move tools are the reason why I'm optimistic about sales and visitor numbers"

Besides laptops and netbooks, visitors can also expect to see familiar brands such as Microsoft and Western Digital.

Because Comex is huge, be sure to allow for at least 2 days to go through all the exhibits in detail. Apply for annual leave if possible too.

Here are some tips to help you get through Singapore's largest I.T. fair:

  • Bring water
  • Wear comfortable shoes (you'll be walking, and walking...)
  • Have in mind what to buy. Collect the product brochures and compare prices. The best time to browse is when the show just opens - that's when it's still not crowded.
  • Come on Sunday, which is the last day of the exhibition. This is when exhibitors drop prices to clear out their products. Even their display units will be on sale.

depends on model and specification ah. After that, you also need to choose the OS (operating system) and whether you want the upgrades or not.

most importantly, your bargaining skill will determine how much a 1.8k lappy can be sold to you at around 1.6k.

But at comex, prices are fixed. They will be killing each other if they lower price. So they probably wont do that. All they can do is give you extra bundles so that at the same price, you get more stuffs.

Hope that helps.

I kinda rushed down to the show today with about 1 hour to spare before closing time. Only

Anyways, if you were wondering what it is like, I took some potshots:

Here's SONY, occupying the entire 3rd floor, just like how they did the past IT shows.

As always, people who buy printers get the quintessential way of hauling it out the exhibition.

And on to sixth floor. Usually anything that's considered "miscellaneous" are found on this last level:

Some of you guys might be interested in this. At the back of this floor is this shop that is arranged like a wooden warehouse with stuff hanging from makeshift ceilings. Shown here are $300++ motherboards that are Intel/AMD dual-core compatible.

"Six dolla only, original price twenty eight!"

Taken at Booth A1946, Worldwide Computer Services. They sell computer accessories and USB trinkets.

I couldn't get to the other floors because it was closing time.

Do feel free to contribute some pics and offers that you've found at the show

redbeacon, are you this guy in the peekture? Pointing at the young chap who thinks he knows everything? Haha.

Anyway, after many years of going to the IT shows to pass my time, i realise that the prices at the shows are almost exactly the same as those at SLS. Maybe a couple of bucks more. The best thing is that SLS will be so empty and sometimes their prices even cheaper than those at the IT shows!

Guys,

Do your survey / recce first.

There is a good thread at HWZ for every IT Show / COMEX.

http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=2494362&highlight=carrot

Read through and you'd realize that the prices are not so much different or even more than at SLS.

But that is not to say there aren't good deals to be abound. Just do some recce first.
