Hi guys!

I am coming to the end of my Probation Period and was wondering whether i should remove my P-Plate.

It would be logical for me to remove my P-Plate after my Probation Period.

On the other side of the fence, there are others prefer and have kept their P-Plates on their bikes long after their Probation Period is over.

What are your veiws on this? Vote now to share your stand and provide reasons why!

Thank you all!

Yes and no.

Yes - Car no longer horn at you for fun.

No - Use it as a safety reflector.

dun think its against the law if you live it hanging there right? :cheeky: yes the triangle act as very good reflectors.. provided you got those for cars, ie 3M type. those stickers ones i have seen pple using are not very useful.

Its officially NOT LEGAL.....

Not legal? In other words illegal?

I'm very confident in my riding abilities. I am just not confident in the abilities of others. :)

Yes it is officially illegal to put Probational Plate after your probation period. But one thing is that if its 2B bike TP wouldnt knw.

BUT!!!!! tell you the scenerio of a P-plate.

1) TP will definately eye on you. Looking for slightest mistake. And if really they stop you then you already after probation then there will be problem. BUT you can say that you just started riding a few months ago so its argueable.

2) Drivers WILL NOT GIVE YOU chance. They will cut you left right centre. That in other words. Will endanger you even more if you are not confident in the abilities of the others. Especially nowadays alot of ego young drivers. They just past after 1 year and love to bully P-platers. In another words your P-plate is like a target board.

So sweetie i dun see any good point of leaving it there. If you want to have reflective, go any sticker shop and get the BIGGEST reflective sticker available. They can even paste for your WHOLE bike.

If you are confident in yourself then good enough. Your second reason that you dun have confident in others also means that you have fear. Which means you dun have confidence riding with ppl, which is contridiction. :)

I am confident in my abilities. Not the abilities of other drivers on the road. :p

And fear is a basic human emotion. Its how much fear is in us.

Anyway, so bottom line, it is ILLEGAL? Where can is see black and white that its illegal? If it is, then i better have to remove it sia.

EDIT: I cannot find it inside the Singpaore Statutes Online. Where can i get it?

Hey guys!

After surfing the TP webiste, i found this link.

http://driving-in-singapore.spf.gov.sg/services/Driving_in_Singapore/Information/pressandmsg/pplate.htm

I quote,

"Final road safety reminder from Traffic Police

The ‘Probation’ plate requirement is not to punish you; it is for your own safety. It gives an early warning to other motorists to allow you more road space to manoeuvre and to be more tolerant and forgiving to you as you pick up additional road skills and experience. At the end of your 1-year probation period, please remember to remove the ‘Probation’ plates. "

Is the word please used to mean that i can choose to remove it or i HAVE to remove it?

If the garment body used PLEASE... means...... :D you knw i knw. Trouble. Thats why i say its kinna gray area where you can argue that you need the space and need the tolerant. Getting fine or demerit points well i dun think there is a law but they can use any other law to book you "IF" they want.

I ever see class 2 bike put P-Plate. But there after die off liao so mabbe warning given or wat.

Wat i mean by they can use other law to book you? Well give you a scenerio. If you are caught speeding, its will be demerit points and fine. BUT!!!! If they decide to book you as illegal racing, then its DOOM..........

So there are alot of sets of law to book you. They can dun book you for the P-Plate but they already stop you they can still book you for any other thing if you are very arrogant and stubborn abt removing the P-Plate.

Dun be surprise that you will be stop by the same TP for 2 times within the week cos my fren kana before and he is damn lucky to siam both time. Due to the Panel Van Pax Sticker.

That was really insightful bernardk!

Anyway, i removed my plates. I am a ***** whimp and dont wanna get in trouble with the law.

But just so you know, i NEVER got stopped onced on the road with my humongous P-Plates. Hell, i even was accelerating so fast didnt see TP infront. My pillion told me i crazy ah go so fast. But TP didnt do anything. Maybe its my bike. Or just that maybe i am too cute he just let me go free.

Imagine 2 cute guys on a YBR. Lol, like cartoon.

Anyway, thanks for the insight guys. Now i got one hole in my YBR windscreen i need to cover it with a sticker or something. :(

ok la YBR not a targeted bike. If you ride NSR or Kips you see lor.... Hahaha.

Why got hole on your windscreen? You mean you created the hole for your plate ah? Ouch.... that hurts...

Yeah. One unnoticable hole. But nonetheless, still a hole. I'm going down to town later. Buy the decepticon logo 3D decal. Then paste over. Then style sia. Later you see transformers 3 got YBR Decepticon. :D

my p plate also coming to an end on tuesday. but no bike so cant remove p plate also.

You mean you havent been riding since you pass? If that so well like i say if you 2B, ppl wont be bothered too much. But the disadvantage i have already specified like ppl dun give you respect or so.

If you are stop by TP they will only disturb you abit. But they will not give you a fine or demerit, only a warning mabbe.

I ever hear some purposely wait till 1 year later then start to ride or drive. Cos they dun like the P-Plate.

Posted

i had a bike after i passed 2b but i got into an accident and sold it away. i also heard of some people who dun like p plate so they wait until their p plate is over then buy bike. but then they give excuses like insurance ex for p plate, 2b bike alot of problem and etc.

Guns don't kill people.Idiots with guns kill people.

Well bro, personally its neither a advantage nor a disadvantage. Its that socially singaporean are ungracious. So badly that we need our garment to do a champaign for it you see.

Road user are scare of you when they see p-plate rider. Its either you are damn hiong and ignorant or you are blurr. Thats wat the p-plate give the impression to the road user.

To me is i treat you as normal road user. I wont give you more space either, cos eventually you will need to learn too. But i practise safety for all road user. Dun worry i will give space, with pillion lagi more space. But im a rider. I dun think drivers will be that kind cos to some of them you are a pest.

For Me, Having A P-Plate On Your Bike, In Bikeshops Mentality, They Can Carrot You More Because They Think You Know Nuts. Without P-Plate, They Will Think You're Experience & Know What Is Real & What Is Not.

When i go bike shops, i talk like ah-pek. I act blur blur then if they wanna carrot me, before i leave the shop, i bombard them with the knowledge i know. From internet, books, experience, other mechanics etc. Then they will have the "Oh ****" face.

On the road, i feel more people give way to P-Plate on my bike than without it. Few days after i removed it, drivers think that i am slow, try to cut in my lane, etc. Wah, damn pissed. Or maybe because it was a saturday morning and i was going to parkway. So rich people dont care people who got bike? I don't know.

i had a total different experience. when i put it, i was frequently "bullied" on the road, dangerously cutting me. so i removed it even before my 1yr is up. personally, i found it worked to my advantage but of course, i'm running a risk of being caught for not putting so i wun encourage actions of removing the p-plate.:)
