dont think there's a need. since bikes are pretty affordable already.

most barebones kups cost around 1-2k.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

but if someone had 3 bikes, maybe a cub, a super 4 and a hayabusa, he might want to make the hayabusa a weekend bike for weekend trips across the causeway...

or maybe a car for daily usage and a weekend bike for track e.g. ducati or whatever

If they can afford 3 bikes and a car, sure no need to take red plate. Its like owning a Lamborghini and putting red plate to it hahha.

I guess if the person is really into tracking, he/she will have one de-registered bike. With all the 'legal' mods, sure to kena by white ants. Ferried over to tracks via 4-wheel vehicle.

Anyway the savings will not be that great for bike. How much can the govt slash the price from the COE? $500?

And how to make the bike more affordable for the masses when it is already affordable?

I'd have to agree with the above post. Right now COE for bikes is already so cheap. Even if there was a 90% discount, the savings do not justify 10 yrs of hassle.

If the gov comes out with red plate bikes, then the price of normal plate bikes would probably be up for one reason or another. Then the red plate bikes would be around the current price as of now.

Red plates --> more bikes own by riders --> increase in market demand --> COE & bike price up --> bike ERP up due to "more" bikes on the road.

LOL, you never know... maybe got some rich guy purposely buy OPC ferrari so can match the plate to the red colour.

pros and cons lor.

no doubt savings for big bikes..

not a prob until they decide to showoff on the roads...

so OPC only for big (cls 2A/ 2) bikes? :cheeky:

I think some are missing the point.

If there is an Off Peak Bike (OPB) scheme, it not only reduce the price of a new bike but also lower the operating cost in the form of road tax.

Previously for cars there was a need to display the coupon when using it outside the "offpeak" period so that may be difficult to implement on bikes. But now that OPCs do not need to display their coupon since it has gone electronic so it is technically feasible to implement that on bikes.

However, not all schemes applicable to cars will be implemented for bikes.

Many years back, I wrote to LTA suggesting a "Classic' bike category but it was rejected citing reason that there are insufficient numbers of such bikes to introduce such a scheme.

I am all for such a OPB scheme since i hardly ride my bikes so even if I can save some money on road tax, it's still a saving.

i know of many forumers who drive yet own more than one bike, and one crazy fella owns 5 bikes and some are only started once a year for inspection.

i am willing to take the lead if there is enough numbers.

cheap? 6 years back, COE was only a few hundred bucks.

now is considered very high.. and chances are, it will go even higher..:(

i dun tink any sensible rider will get a 2b, 2a and class 2 bike at any 1 time..

a combo of a 2b and class 2 bike is more likely..

insurance not that cheap you know..

That has nothing to do with sensibility.

Riding a bike is already not a sensible thing to many Singaporeans. Off hand i already know of one forumer here who has that combination.

There is another forumer here who owns (all in his name and not as sub-riders) four class 2 bikes. With one ass and four bikes , is he being not sensible ?

Yes, I do agree with your point but in another way. The OFC rebate is supposingly used to offset the COE and OMV of the vehicle and not to offset the machine value price. Hence for bike, the COE plus OMV is not alot. Hence the rebate will not be alot.

Moreover small cc bike and big cc bike has a big price gap. For example a kup maybe cost 5k otr while a Goldwing cost 40k otr. The gov will definately will have to based on the kup to cal the rebate. Maybe $500 as per mentioned by another forumer? What is the $500 compared to a 40k you are paying for the Goldwing and you are retricted to riding during off peak hour. Same for the roadtax relief, maybe less than $50? For if you give too high, the small bike road tax will be free liao.

Maybe this will give the shop a good chance to increase the price of the small bike so that it will make the OPC scheme more balance for the small and big bike.

But seriously, the purpose of OPC scheme is to curb the traffic situation in SG. Mainly reducing the number of cars during the peak hour as they mainly contribute to the jam. It is NOT to encourage ppl to buy another vehicle to park at home.

4x class 2 bikes.. that 1 can understand..

1 x tourer [sTX]

1 x super tourer [hayabusa]

1 x enduro/street bike [GS/fazer]

1 x sports bike [ducati]

passion for bike mah.. but 1x 2b, 2a and 2.. really dun make much sense, unless the bike number unique la.. or the bike itself is limited edition...

got 1 ang mo who works opp my previous company, have 2 x ducati and drives a saab..

expats.. :sian:

YES i would certainly like to have such an option. Maybe not now, but in the future, after i get a class 2 bike.

passion for bike mah.. but 1x 2b, 2a and 2.. really dun make much sense, unless the bike number unique la.. or the bike itself is limited edition...

riding class 2 bike already doesnt make sense la

riding isnt all about making sense leh... riding is about passion... and passion might take the form of 1x 2b, 2a and 2...

Thanka for all the reply.

But i think it wouldnt solve alot of problem with OPC bike. But it will create alot of chances (excuse) for boys to own BIG machine. One of them is me.

Thinking of getting a HD or class 2 to ride on weekend or at nite, buy think of it doesnt make sense just to ride for short while in a week.

Hope that my passion doesnt overkill my stupidity.
