It is cheaper in the long run to own two bikes, a class 2 and a 2b bike - say, a CBR1000RR and a fully paid Honda Wave? Or it is better to just stick to the fireblade, adding that I will be riding up to 55km a day...

Kindly state your opinion on this matter, very much appreciated :)

I had a v-strom 1000 and a Dr 200

I ride both at my convenience, and when feel like it or when the touring terrain calls for it.

or when i sent one bike for servicing i still have option for the others.

in conclusion is my 2 bike give me more options and by exercsing the options help to reduce the damage and mainteances to the bike.

like if i were to go off road, short trips (less than 400km) and city travel(JAM) i use the Dr 200 but if i were to travel in malaysia NSHW 70% of the time I use the v-strom to thailand .

use options ......

Life sux..Take control ..and live it and pick yourselves up now.. die later

if the roads end ....i go off road

To me, having two bikes is more of an insurance. one of the cons is that you have to pay insurance for the class 2b bike. but paying that small amt is worth it!

just ask yourself why u buy a class 2 bike. is it for touring or track? if u must ride your class 2 bike every single time, then u should stick to that one class 2 bike. with 2 bikes, it gives better flexibility. when the big bike's tyres are almost worn off and you're broke, you can use your honda wave instead until pay day.

for me, with a small bike and class 2a bike, i use my small bike solely for transport and to pillion my gf while my class 2a bike is for fun and offroad use and hopefully, track. different bike can serve different needs.

true, when one bike needs some servicing done but you don't have the time to send it to shop, then can use the other one. that's the best part of having two bikes.

for me, my sis rides but doesn't have a bike. so when we feel like riding out for breakfast together, she takes the 2b and i take the 2a. normally i take the 2b to work 5 days a week and just keep the 2a for shits and giggles and also to keep myself busy doing work on (but sometimes you'll find that you'd rather take the bigger bike to work just for kicks)

regarding whether its cheaper, the more you ride your 2b as compared to your cl 2, the cheaper it will be.

e.g. if you ride 2b 5 days a week and cl2 once on wkends, it will be cheaper

but if you do the reverse, i suppose it would be cheaper to own a cl2 only then

Ok2.. another question.. do you find it hard adjusting to the class 2 during wkends? I mean, riding a 125cc wave with semi-auto clutch then suddenly switching to a litre bike and back to the way again..

I think trottle control would be more crucial to difference.

class2B bike, most of the time u full throttle the bugger as u know the pick up is slow.

u cant be full throttling class 2 bike all e time.

i was concerned about that when getting my 2nd bike too...

i only have experience with class 2b and class 2a bike (with very different types of power delivery) but in my experience, once you've ridden both of them enough, your mind will do the mental switch almost instantly. so no worries about that.

the moment you get on the bike, the weight, sitting position etc will remind you that you're on a different machine that needs to be handled differently

I am fortunate enough to own a couple of very different bikes. Swapping around is never a problem, even between a light weight 2 stroke enduro and a 900cc sports bike.

Class 2 bikes and saving money are usually mutually exclusive. A decent set of tires costs at least $400. Not to mention high insurance and road tax. Commuting daily on it will increase wear and tear, and add to servicing costs.

BUT, the thrill of scrapping your knee on the track is priceless...

If saving $$$ is top priority, maybe it makes more sense to stick to 2B bikes. Besides, riding a high performance 1000cc IL4 in traffic is no fun. Engine heat will roast your legs, and the sitting position will give you back/wrist pains.

i will get a 2b or 2a scooter if i have the spare $$...

for lazy days....but now my age getting another bike is still a bit out of the question...

if i need to send for servicing n 1 day not enough i just take public transport for the period...

But For Me, When I Own A Class 2 Bike, Ill Still Keep My 2B Cub. Im Working As A Mcrider So On Weekends Or Off Days I Can Use The Cub To Work McDelivery To Earn Extra Income. Hehe. Thats What Most McRiders Do You Know. Most Of Them Have Big Bikes At Home & They Use Their Cubs For Work.

I Can Also Use The Cub To Go Wet Market Or Run Some Errands Nearby. Its Quite Troublesome Just To Go To A Shop Several Streets Away Then Wanna Ride Big Bike. At Least If Cub Just Zoom Here Zoom There Reach Already. Save Petrol Also. Hahaha.

The Class 2 Will Be Used For Long Distance Journey Or When Going Out To Town Or Sumthing.

2B Cub For Short Distances And Running Errands.

Just My 2 Cents. :thumb:

Cost aside, I think it's pretty fun to own several bikes at one time, especially if they're of different types. Right now I have 3 bikes but no car, and i swap around depending on my mood.

IMHO, even large bikes are cheaper to maintain than cars, and heck of a lot more fun. If your budget allows, just get several bikes. If you're a family man, then you'd probably want to budget for a car.

And since you're going for a 2b bike as an extra, they are almost costless to maintain anyway. Insurance+fuel+maintenance generally works out to only a couple of dollars a day.

Why bother even debating about it? Buy buy buy :)

Alright, just got a wave, fully paid heh heh. Now I have a wave with a cb400. So far going good. Wave's fc is fantastic. I monitored my fc for the last three days and it uses up around 2L of petrol for 120km of usage, whereelse the s4 would had used 4-5L of petrol. And it feels good again to turn vtec on when I ride the s4 again. I guess this is how a 2b and a weekend bike will roughly be.

Hope to have a cl2bike at the end of the year or early next year. Thanks for the advice, guys!

hi curious how you save on insurance for the 3 bikes? All under same company? Is there like a fleet discount for having multiple rides under your name?
