Lol your main opponent is a DIY modified Phantom that is like reallllllly old but some strange people say cannot keep up in their Super Four. Sure or not, it's a big loud posing bike with flowers on it lmao. It is not a racer and does not have horsepower to do any sort of sprinting on the highways, just a small mountain of torque to be efficient on all types of roads. About RX-K type of handling and performance.

Anyways we are used to bringing P platers onto rural roads to gain riding experience so I keep a strict eye on who and when we can 'play' and when we must obey the rules of the road. Suffice to say for tonight's activity we are training for urban convoy ops so it's going to be a good LAWFUL workout for everyone.

Now on to your concern - I have run convoys for 19 yo youngsters on sportsbikes and also rode with old gentleman on his "racing" RX-K around Woodlands. So long as you have two wheels and dare to go on the road with it you have my max respect lol. The uncle on the RX-K actually has the exact same riding style I have, being decisive in his riding but not reckless in speed. Scary?

Convoy style is non-lanesplitting and more or less we try to act like professionals for anything we want to talk and do. That means not discriminating against any type of vehicle, make, or model ... or the people in them :D I will daresay we are the only bikers on the road who will give way to drivers in a hurry and help escort slower vehicles and drivers safely to their destination, if we come across them.

Pre-ride blog, organisation & flight plan:

@nabil15 and @CJP accompanied me to Planet Motors for pre-ride checks where I correctly self-diagnosed a rough idling issue. We then did a very short road recon to gain "tactical data" for one of the more challenging stretches of the course tonight (if I even stick to it, cos it's big and complex) and had Indian fast food. Brilliant.

CJP ate a giant inflatable pillow.

@tonychan will be meeting us with his convoy at Harbourfront 2345h, where @nabil15 will take over convoy command for round 2 of Operation Midnight Shadow involving urban riding and photography stuff. Those of us who are still full of energy can elect to stay and escort Convoy 2, or head home if you have Sunday morning plans with family :3

Ps. We will really launch at 2230hrs sharp, those late can watch anime :D

Riding with the hrmc gang has always been fun for me, same for just now. Even though it might not have turned out to be pleasant for everybody, hope if there's any issue it can be resolved by talking and sharing. But new school term is starting again for me, dunno if i can still make it for the next ride?

Sure he's there. =) He'll be posting very soon i guess. Don't worry, he's fine.

That is a relief man. We were getting quite worried when he didn't rejoin the convoy and thought something bad happened to him or had something urgent to attend to.

Thanks - sorry to keep you all waiting & worried ; I disengaged from the convoy due to one small SOP (standard op. procedure):

SAFETY FIRST

I felt for Part 2 we didn't have a proper main navigator.

Well the small road recon was fun but then at one traffic light he started showing off cornering skills and some major horsepower and left Tony's convoy almost 500m behind. In city roads at midnight that is like beyond visual range already.

I was in a bit of "WTF" mode when later convoy leader decided to use the busy filter lane for a rally point.

I kept going straight with hand signal -suggesting- convoy lead proceed forward to safer rally point.

I also kept going because if I swerved left in formation and stopped, Tony behind me would have a possible pile-up situation because there is like, 5 metres room in the swerve and stop maneuver. I am not a street racer nor do I ride with split second reactions. It is not worth the risk to self and others on the road.

At that point I cooled down at the small road ahead and did not see the first two bikes but spotted Tony's convoy all in formation and joined up at the rear, behind Ah Cai and Chris's CBR150. Due to heavy traffic and the fact it was past midnight I did not want to risk running up to full power because Phantom is a heavy bike and I need a lot of room to accelerate and brake. I had also overheated my front brakes during the long convoy run from Downtown East and expended the majority of my energy leading that convoy.

Thus right after Funan IT mall I didn't risk running the amber light at the junction and lost sight of Ah Cai and Chris there and then. (looped around and returned to base slowly on empty KPE)

That earlier first convoy from Downtown East was run more or less perfectly usual TPY crew style that's why I felt nothing to post lol - we were on time and on target, no incidents with Nabil doing a good job of sweeper and reached HBF carpark 2 minutes early :3 The 2 Aprilia 'fighter escorts' left us at Chinatown as they needed to fly overseas the next day (today). They had helmet intercoms and took turns leading the convoy with me.

So yeah, we try not to do long convoys so as to maintain top form for all riders and machines and it is standard procedure for us that if any disagreement or unsuitability to road or riding conditions, we can break off and head to the next rally point or home at riders' discretion.

I was very busy today with the Potong Pasir crew and held a DIY event + shakedown cruise with @CJP and friends. Ended up on a very long road trip and just returned home :3
