1 word, Panniers. more stylish than top box but still can fit something.

1 word, backpack. some back pack meant for bikers have special compartment for helmet.

between convenience and style, i guess bikers have to make a choice. unless you ride super4 which is rather unique as it is the only bike that looks good with or without box. too common i think so saturate our eyes liao.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

I had H&B rack and box on my CBR. Rode it to the track with all barang barang in side the box. Just dump the box at pit area before session starts. Those who lack the capacity to carry tools and spares and refreshments can only look in envy. Hahaha

lol.. for me i just take my box and rack out the night before i go.. cos no need to bring raincoat, no need to bring extra helmet, only things that need to be waterproofed are phone and wallet, put inside ziplock bag will do.

panniers, want to lanesplit still more difficult.

backpack, carry around heavy, back pain. go food court need to find extra chair cos you need to put the bag. i ever went to a packed foodcourt with hardly enough chairs, ended up i got to put my helmet on the floor, cannot put on my lap cos i would be too far from the table when i eat. (once again, i had no box that day).

yeah.. its a choice. but to me super4 dun really look nice in the 1st place. and it probably looks ok with box cos of pple's perception. already see so many s4 with box therefore it looks ok.

well no matter what bike it is if the owner wanted to put the box just put lol. the main thing the owner is comfortable with it no matter wat comment he gets. ever saw a hornet 07(naked) with a box ridden by an uncle. lol.

When I rode 2B Í enjoyed the bike with a 45L box. But now after a few months on my Super 4 without a box, I guess I rate the ride quality higher over practicallity for now. And if i decide to install a box in the future, it'll be a top box. Panniers are great only on long tours imo. Inside my Super 4 are bike cover, bottled water for cleaning and cooling the seat, cleaning cloths and fuses.

If you dun like a box to spoil the appearance of your bike, can consider a tank-bag

Can get the magnetic one that stick to your tank, or can get the Bagster type that have a bra on the tank, then you clipp the bag to the bra.

i bought my bike wif box,den take out coz wanna a retro look.

when going out, put my raincoat at the seat behind n carry karana waterprrof bag for my wallet,hp and lecture notes..and other essential stuff, its a 20l..kinda huge but can make it nice n small if nt much stuff. (protect me well from rain). helmet lock on top of my raincoat when i park.

when reaching home everything extra put back at home ( scared kena stolen)

there was once my gf wanna giv me hari raya cookies, about 2 boxxes NOT bottle..so i use the "spider web" and secured it on a back seat

i also once carry 1 carton of 7-up..also strap on back seat.

anything more i will say.." later i take it from u, when i take bus...hehez

tools..mine kena stolen b4..but i hav 2 set of tools from my dad n elder bro( both riding vespa)..so just use them when needed at home

Way before, along with my sportbike, I used to have a transport bike equipped with a topbox too.

So I dumped the raincoat and misc stuff in there. Lotsa junk in fact.

Now I only own a single bike, without a box. Learned to live with it.

I have a tankbag instead, and put my raincoat in it. That's about it.

You get used to it after awhile.

TBH, I think any box at all, pannier or topbox, spoils the looks of a bike, if it is not integrated into the bike (eg, STX-13, Kawa GTR14, FJR, etc etc).

That's my opinion of course. Those squarish things break up the aerodynamics and throw off your handling completely.

You can't break 220 without vibrations. You can't flick it around twisties with reckless abandon. You can't lanesplit and squeeze through traffic rapidly.

I might get a maxi-scoot for commuting just for convenience. But I'll try to avoid putting a box on my main bike.

Oh yeah... for commuter bike. I'll go only with the topbox. They don't affect the handling of the bike as much as panniers do, and you can still lanesplit like a maniac.

Panniers will look better than a topbox. But functionality for city riding is shot to hell.

How much is the spider web thing? I have been contemplating getting one for future use.

When I was riding a sportsbike the biggest thing I was able to "carry" at the rear seat was a bicycle. No kidding.

Box makes your life easier. I was once like those who wanna look cool without boxes, but realise, I'm just making my life hard for the sake of 'coolness'. Carrying a bagpack with all my necessary school books and laptop, additional helmet needed to be carried for fetching my girlfriend, plus raincoat. Damn torturing. Once a box was fixed, it really lighten my load. And I can store a spare helmet in there in case of emergency purposes, need to fetch someone.

I even got a friend who is riding a KRR with a top box attached. It was for convenience purposes. LOL. :D

After having the chance to try a kind rider's CBR6 I had a thought... hmm, can I fit Komine bags on the tail! The centre-exhaust makes this a good choice. Other than a tank bag or the rider using a backpack, there seems to be no other option for storage. My height and build seems to suit the CBR6 like a glove. Very comfortable even at low commuting speeds.

Note: Storage options are not the same for all bikes. We tried those nice trapezium shaped bags on a Super Four, the seat couldn't go back in easily. E21 panniers on a Hyosung Comet - not enough bolt points on the stock config.

For me I didn't want a huge top box to dump all my trash into so I made do with a pair of E21s (one 'mobile garage' with emergency highway assist tools if I see anyone broken down, and the other for cleaning and lube supplies). I also retrofitted a pair of round "fork bags" from LAB, a steal for $15, modified the mounting straps and hooked them up above the E21s for storing lightweight loose items like cable ties, coupons. They are rain resistant!

I'm not the kind of rider who wants to go without storage, unless it were a track bike. But I just don't need a top case, as I want my chassis to retain a low centre of gravity for handling purposes, and practise strict housekeeping. I even have an inventory list :p

Yeah. I've gotten my box broken in to before too.

Gloves, Shoei FF helmet taken. Gone...

After that, despite having a box, I always carried my helmet around.

So WTF is a box for? Jst the raincoat? KNN

A top box sure give you a lot of convenience.

All the essentials like raingear and locks, just put in the box. I dont like to ride carrying a backpack or pouch.

A box allows me to do some shopping too.

Since I got a bike with a box, the next bikes I own all have boxes.

Once you have something and realised the convenience, I guess you will never look back.

Yeah having a box is convenient.

When I took off my box on my previous S4, my wife was complaining due to the lack of space for groceries.

But bo pain the box kills the look of my previous ride

I once thought of having a whole arsenal of boxes in my home and office so I can choose if I wanted to bring a "first aid" pannier or an insulated "food carrier" but decided we're not flying strike fighters :p

So I just left the 2 big side boxes on. They don't offer much handling or aero penalty at the speeds I'm going, anyway!

I might get a magnetic tank bag from Motoworld ($90) in lieu of a top case as I don't like a big load high on the back.

I use a tank bag, which can carry rain gear, wallet, phone, work documents and stuff.

Good enough for me. Only miss my box when I wanna buy supper for the family... like ice kachang. :)

Box is good to have but not a must for me.

My tank bag has been transferred from S4 > FZ1S > and coming CBR1000RR.

Only necessary stuff inside my tank bag like rain coat, parking coupon, pen and road tax disc.

Then continue using your box. Some people prefer riding without them, even if its too "mafan".
