I've recently heard from a friend that it is illegal to be caught riding with one hand, clarifications on this?

That's a good question. Hope to have some good clarification from those well verse in traffic laws too. Personally I think TP won't go around hunting one arm riders. Probably still ok if need to adjust something for a while for a split sec, but if you try to pull off a stunt aka one armriding from Changi Village to Juring Island ... Probably will get warned for dangerous driving

Posted

by law, if u ride with 1 arm, TP will book u. charges depend, 3 or 6 pt + fine, although it's not stated, still consider as dangerous driving.

however if just for a sec, like adjusting helm, prob will be ok, however if u try something drastic, prob will get warning. those riding from changi to jurong with 1 arm will definately get warned or fine. this is like a grey area, so depends.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

i think those driving car with 1 arm will also get warned or summon, so dont think it only applies to bikes, always keep both hands on the steering.

i pity those who drives manual cars. either they drive in gear 1 all the way. or risk getting caught while changing gears.

changing gear doesnt count as 1 arm driving, as i've said, if u're using ur other hand to do something drastic, then u might get warned or summon.

gentlemen...i was taught to signal with 1 hand...

we need to use 1 hand for signalling..ie turn right/left, slowing down, signalling for the traffic behind to overtake as well as signalling intention to stop...

is this illegal now?? seems strange..if u ask me..

unless you are using the hand other than signalling..

so does one hand riding, the other picking nose warrant a fine as well?

argue with TP. "got thing stuck in my nose, cannot breathe properly, don't dig out how?"

a perfect example with car drivers i saw this moring.

this guy was talking using BT and guess what, he's pointing here n there n 1 arm driving. he also seems quite agitated.

thus u see the point i'm trying to prove, if TP saw him sure kenna summoned or charged for HP (iregardless he used BT or not). 1 arm driving/riding also means u're not concentrating on the road, it could bring u points which serve as dangerous driving. i had a friend who told me 1 arm driving is a no no, n his friend ever kena warned by TP for that. as said also, it's a grey area, it depends how u explain to TP n if he believe u. however TP wont stop u for no reason, he must have spotted u doing something dramatic.

both car and bike...you will need to use hand for signalling or else u fail the test..

i am not sure when they do away with hand signalling.

self taught by reading tp manual..

oh "hand signalling", i recall seeing old footage of driving center testers doing that. not sure if last time they require to do that to pass, but nobody do that on the road, reason being ur vehicle signalling is enough, also why risk ur arm getting chop off. it's good to know, in case ur signaling fails, but impratical to do that always on the road.

that being said, i think i mentioned u doing something drastic with ur other arm. picking nose or adjusting helm dont really count, unless u lose balance, which TP could give u warning (depend how u convince him). riding one arm from changi to jurong or acting out a drama with ur other arm will definately get warning or worse, summoned.

edit: i think a lot of driver dont even know TP's hand signal, they just learn their theory n forget cos it rarely applies on the road.

already stated in my post above, it's also dangerous to do handsignal, fyi, i heard an old news that ppl got their hand chopped by sticking their hand out of the window.

how do u define one handed riding?

is there a min. duration the hand must be off the handlebar?

does the use of a throttle lock allow your hand to be off the bar?

Most people go through life following the crowd.

Others think for themselves.

They go their own way.

No offence bro.. A friends friend is d most common term used for urban legends..

I believe wun summon people for sumting this trivial. Wen tp wanna ask a road user o proceed to the other side... He too uses his hand to signal to the side..

well, do u think the scene i describe above: using BT with 1 hand pointing here n there n in an agitated state, would a TP warn or summon him? or u use 1 hand n lose control, swerve or fell?

my advise, keep both hands on the steering at all time n u never have to worry TP stopping u.

Why the hell does anyone want to ride with one hand? Stylo milo? Sore back from being hunched over on that 200hp superbike?

Riding with one hand drastically reduces reaction time, and ability to control the bike while braking hard.

TP will NOT book you if you are just signaling to someone, or some quick adjustments. But try riding from Tuas to East Coast with arm resting on tank is just asking for it.

C'mon, let's exercise some common sense.
