Hi,

I came across a seller who is selling Arai Crank Replica, Arai Nakano Sakura (Taiwanese replica) and Arai Samurai (Taiwanese Replica).

This Arai is replica and very identical to the original but at almost 60% cheaper, is it against the rule in singapore to sell replica?

Is the product using the same logo and licensed by Arai Helmets?

If the answer is no then the manufacturer of the replicas are risking class action lawsuits.

However in 'some parts' of the world, fakes are everywhere and they are so numerous they cannot be eradicated.

Instead of informing the authorities you may also contact Arai Helmets directly for them to take the necessary action. Then it's up to the parent company to decide whether they wish to pursue litigation.

No need to be offended by the presence of imitation products - it's the individual's decision to buy and use them (and risk having lower quality and protection levels than the genuine helmets)

As long as there is differentiation between genuine Arai and replica Arai there is no threat to the market in general. However the use of the Arai logo piecemeal is a different story.

There are probably, little to no regulation on "copyrighted" designs and material of this nature, as there were a lot of imitation $8 Rizoma grips in the market towards the end of last year. I realised it was an imitation when people started commenting that I had Rizoma grips. What? $8 only lah. :p

i wore arai original, but its abit heartpain to see an identical replica that cost 60% cheaper.

u prefer heart pain or head pain :p

coz at the end of the day, did u buy the arai for the helmet quality or just for the graphic design? i wouldn feel heart pain seeing cheaper chiong products, especially helmet and other safety gear. normal clothing maybe.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

Heart pain from knowing you could have achieved the same "looks" by buying a cheap replica, or heart pain that someone else can now have the same looks as your expensive original by paying peanuts?

Past: KDX200, LC4 400, LC4 620, GSXR750WR

so why are those arai raincoat can be sell everywhere? since when arai produce raincoats? $60?

it is illegal but police will not take action unless formal report lodged by arai themselves. coz technically even arai shoei and other stickers sold at mamak shops and such oso similarly illegal. so are replica paintworks done by paint shops. how to take action on everything? impossible.

but they do take action on counterfeit goods. meaning completely identical product including logo. these they are stamping down, especially like hand bags. we do see news of ppl trying to sell such counterfeits being arrested. but if the product is identical but no logo whatsoever....

so if the helmet u saw has the arai logo, it counts as counterfeit goods and yes will take action. if it doesn have the arai logo just identical graphics, i dun think will take action unless formal report lodged by arai. any other use of arai logo on products they dun make, like stickers and rain coats and paintwork, also only if arai lodge report.

and final thing i wanna say is.... u wanna take action coz u not happy that others pay less to buy the same graphic design like you?

or were u genuinely cheated or about to be cheated by them? or did they go around claiming they were selling genuine arai, thereby cheating ppl? coz if either of this i understand u wanna take action.

but if the seller openly say its not genuine arai, u weren't cheated.... then why not let them be, let the stupid buyers who care more about looks than safety buy and put on those helmets.

Ppl would say that the Arai replica uses cheap FRP instead of the high tech whatchamacallit composites that Arai uses for the shell.

Rizoma grips are a bit diff. Both original and pirated are merely machined aluminium parts, anodized. Essentially very little to no diff other than branding. Both are very likely made in China, and perhaps even from the same source. The only diff is WHO is selling it? :D

So the fact of the matter is that you are du-lan that you spent $600+ on your lid, and someone somewhere got something that looks alike for $100 to $200+ ??

ROFL.....

yah man, thats the vibe i'm getting too.

and i'm also highly amused, coz if it were me, when i first laid out 600++ for the arai, i would have known that most of the money was for arai-standard safety quality. if i see someone selling/wearing an identical counterfeit arai for 100++, i wouldn feel du-lan, i'd shake my head at the poor sod paying 100++ for a helmet thats possibly made by a third world country slave labour out of recycled styrofoam boxes.

i wouldn wear that counterfeit arai even if i were riding a bicycle. i'd rather pay 150 for a low-end HJC full face. heck i really think even a $50 givi/m-fizz open face helmet is safer, coz at least i know those are made by 'proper' helmet manufacturers.
