Hi guys,

I often ride to KL-JB-Singapore back and forth because my relatives are there, i am riding GSR400, can anyone advise me on which brand and compound of Engine Oil that is good for a long-high speed ride?

I currently using Silkolene Fuchs Pro 4 and i personally didnt like as my ride is not smooth with it.

Sorry if it has been asked before.

you need something that can withstand heat, shearing and provide good protection. also should not be expensive as your bike clock pretty good distance so you change oil much faster then average rider. funny... HDEO come to mind as the first choice:p

anyway, Redline, Amsoil, Motul are all pretty good oil to start with if you want the best. these are group 4 or 5 true synthetic oil that is good for endurance usage. these 3 brands with relatively little or no viscosity index improver(VII), they should be pretty good for long distance.

of course there are others like mobil, maxima, chex 9000 etc that are great oils. but i start with the above 3 if i just want the best. personally, i just stick with any 15W40 HDEO that i can get at a good price and enjoy the ride:)

you could try Royal Purple for touring. it helps by withstanding heat so your engine runs smoother and quieter..

but only sold at 1 shop @ Tanjong Pagar Plaza.. however you gotta diy or send the EO to a shop..

try it to believe it.. weet weet!

Royal purple is called max-cycle. it should be mainly PAO maybe with blend of ester or group III as some suggest.

Motul high-end oil is Motul 300V. double ester oil. or the Motul 7100 which is full ester oil. of course they have semi-synthetic but i guess you will be looking at full synthetic.

Can i give you my recommendation? Shell Advance S 4T (20W40) or Shell Advance SX 4T (15W40). Both damn good. In my opinion.

there is car specific oil from royal purple, tried and tested on the dyno, lower engine running temp and slight increase in torque n hp

what most people dont notice or have access to, is the figures on the additives.

a big portion of the additives include metal deactivators, static dissipator and re-doping process stadis 450 which should not cross the max of 3.0

actually i am quite keen on the chex9000, but what exactly does a touring bike need for engine oil? what type of visciousity?

Chex9k seems good for very hot running bikes like the Phantom because it helps dissipate heat faster and is stable at high temperature / high rpm situations. Reduces or eliminates oil consumption on these old but still popular commuting choppers.

When tested on Super 4 (@nabil15 's spec 2) it appears that acceleration suffers because S4s run better on 10W40 it seems. So he went back to Motul 300V and all is well.

Chex is a 50-weight and your inline 4 may not like the greater pumping drag associated with the heavier oil.
