i am writing this on my true and personal account. I purchased an insurance with AVIVA last December. i did an online transaction. One of the questions asked was: Has your vehicle been modified from the manfacturer's standard specifications ? . I answered NO coz as far as i am concerned modification refers to engine enhancement.

Thus in May when a JB car kiss my rear, i made a 3rd party claim and Aviva came down to take pictures of my vehicle damage as their SOP. Few days later they said, they wanted to take a second round of pics prior to the accident. They did and instead of taking the pices of the damage, they took photos of my engine bay, tyres, interior.

i received a letter from them dated 5 May 2011, that my insurance has been void and will be refunded fully due to the following modification made.

1. Sports Rim

2. Strut Bar

3. Brake Vacuum Tube ( Monster Brake Capsule )

4.Voltage Stabilizer

5. Exhaust Tail Pipe ( which in fact was just the muffler TIP )

if TS had answered "Yes" to the question "Has your vehicle been modified from the manfacturer's standard specifications ?" upon purchase of policy. What would the outcome be?

lets say TS had answered "yes", would Aviva have rejected the application or imposed extra loading on the premium?

If I change my car seat and side mirror, is it consider modifications?I think they are too much.for my friend case, even lta inspection did not say anything.which mean,I buy a car, cannot change any approved part accessories.if I do,either u pay more Or not cover.

The thing is, where should the line to drawn? To us, it may seem harmless to replace an exhaust silencer or fit a big brake kit that enhances braking performances. But to the insurer, it was an excellent way of avoiding a massive payout. Dirty as it seems. Now, the driver was legally driving without a valid insurance coverage. And so he can be charged. Therefore guys, be very careful of your modifications. Even a sports rim can be considered as modifications. If you have to do something, then do something that they cannot fault you with.

Otherwise, simply answer yes to the online survey.

Just by this comment "......as far as i am concerned modification refers to engine enhancement.", this fella seems naive and ignorant.

Furthermore, i feel that this forumer who posted this at /www.mycarforum.com was not telling the entire story. So unless this forumer post a copy of the actual reply from AVIVA, I am going taking it with a pitch of salt.

this really sucks.. somemore it's 3rd party claims..

gonna drive lesser and change to DA once my Aviva one is up..

Get prepared to take it to court if the inserer back out. Crappy insurers. We are at the whim and mercy of these insurers.

Insurers are just empty talk money suckers. Most workshop repairs are below the excess 500, dont know pay insurance for what, should just buy the cheapest you can find.

Can terminate in advance and they refund right? Better than drive in fear...

to terminate now, refund is pro-rated (minus the admin cost)... and next insurance will need to top up the missing a few months .

oh well...
