Hi all,

I recently took my 2B test and failed. The weather during the test was really bad with heavy rain and poor visibility. When I received the summary I realised that I was failed on not completing the figure 8 and slalom under the specified times. Throughtout the training all the instructors have been telling me that when riding in the rain you have to be more cautious, ride slower and don't accelerate to hard. I spoke to the tester and he told me that despite the rain I should complete the course in the same time as in the wet. I find this incredible to believe as they are basically saying that when it rains you should slow down but if its raining during the test you have to ride as if you were riding in the dry. I raised this but was brushed off with no explanation other than thats how it is.

I want to make a formal complaint and wanted to know if anyone has done this before ? Is there an appeals process ?

Also, now there are no test dates until well after March of next year. Is there any way I can do the test at a different school ? I did my test at the comfort del gro driving centre.

Any help would be appreciated.

From your excellent command of english, you dont sound like a local, you must me a foreigner, from India? Feel sorry for you. Didn't have a license back home? It would have been so easy to convert.

I am from England and yes I wish I had taken the test there and converted here. You can do the test in 1 week and are allowed to ride any capacity bike. I only decided to do the bike test when I saw how expensive car ownership is in Singapore.

I have booked a re-test anyway however I think its negligent for the instructors to teach you to slow down when its raining but when you take the test you are marked down for not achieving the same speeds that you would in the dry.

I have a written a letter of complaint which will no doubt be ignored anyway.

Shellshox, its not about the money its about the principle.

In this case I think its important to raise an appeal because actually its a safety issue and the driving school just gets away with it.

Hi sk29,

I do understand where you're coming from as I have personally had that thought before, that it is incredulous to expect us to achieve the same timings for the various courses when its wet.

Therefore, I once brought this up to the instructors and they actually told me that the timings for the courses are set specifically so that riders would be able to achieve it even in the wet.

So say for example, one is expected to clear the figure 8 in 8seconds (can't remember exactly), with the perfect conditions, he/she should clear it in about 7 seconds.

I hope i was able to bring my point across because i am feeling pretty incoherent, haha.

but yea, hope this helps! :)

i did my test around 1 year ago. from my short riding experience, i believe the courses are to equip the rider with some of the most basic skills that is needed or useful in real life riding experience. when things go bad, your training will need to kick in to get you out of harm way. in case you do not know, there is no way you can control the weather when you are riding. so why must there be a compromise in test timing in bad weather? make sense to you?

in another note, the timing for the courses is quite comfortable. if the rider have what it take, i quite sure it is not difficult to get through the courses easily. i am not boy-wonder. personally i took a total of 29 practical lessons before going for my TP. i just put in a lot of effort to make the test effortless.

if you want to complain, maybe you should complain against the instructor for feeding you the wrong information. then again, have you ask the right questions? did you specifically asking him that one is allowed to slow down during the test when the weather is bad? maybe the instrustor ask you to slow down during the training out of concern for the trainee safety and you take it as it is ok to slow down during the test?

every countries have their own requirements according to their road conditions or at least what the authority think we need. if you think it too tough or unfair here, you can always consider what others have suggested which is to take your test in England and convert over here which is not a choice for most of us.

good luck mate. welcome to Singapore.

I don't think you have a case here.

If the standards are hard to achieve during the wet, it'd be reviewed long before you took your test.

Just retake, there are probably tons of formal complaints as Singaporeans like to complain. How long have you been riding from where you came from?

This simply means that in the dry, you are not fast enough. So if you "just passed" in the dry, you most likely will fail in the wet.

Rain or shine, its all to do with luck really.

Thanks for all the opinions. I understand what everyone is saying and I guess I am venting my anger a little. I actually think the way the course is conducted is very good in that it gives you a much better idea of what it takes to ride a bike and on the whole the advice has been excellent. I do feel though that certain standards are not always applied equally which is dependant on the instructor you are dealing with at the time. I have rebooked the test so this time round I feel better prepared for it. Hopefully I will be on the riding on the road in the not too distant future !

What's you're doing or planning to do is to challenge the system - the "I said you've failed means you've failed" rule. Go ahead, I do believe that it's a good challenge, even though high chance you won't win.

I've too have passed from Comfort Ubi, and I really really failed many times before I eventually passed. Believe me, these failures really helped in my daily ridding habits. I've been riding for 10 years, and until now I still have the habit of checking my blind spots for a simple lane change.

After all, some failures isn't that bad a thing.

in all seriousness, i believe even if there is oil on figure 8 or something and so happens like 50% of people failed because of slipping on the oil, trying to "argue/appeal" will result in a lost. simply to put it, singapore's law is so strict that sometimes i see stuff like police telling victim of vandalism who apparently had a video of the person who scratch their car, say that they can't do anything because they need some certain evidence.

long ago when I attempted my 1st class 2A tp test, I fell on the figure 8 and thus immediate failure. Reason: Bike overheated and just cuts off. I was those few last candidates for the test. appealed to the trainer, he said he cant do much and tester decision is final. the trainer offered to book my next TP test and revision for free which I declined. I was damn mad cos I could be penalized by other issues but not because of the bike that the center provided...Lesson learnt , I moved on took the subsequent test n passed ...the best experience was when I passed my class 2...damn smooth all da way.....

Hi All,

Just thought I would give you an update. After 4 emails and several phone calls I finally got a call from a representative of the driving school. As i expected he said there was nothing he could do to change the test result however he has put me on the next test session which saves me waiting 2 more months.

For reference, all the course elements that are timed are done so with wet conditions in mind. This wasn't explained to me at all so apparently this guy is going to let the instructors know to pass on this information.

Anyway, I know better this time so hopefully I can get this test out of the way finally !

round 1 > challenge the authorities

round 2 > easier to identify u and therefore "marked" u

round 3 > outside into the real road , where dangers lurks and car drivers dun give a damn ..

welcome to singapore brah. i think there is no way for you to take test at different school as you will be wasting money.. and complaint will just be useless. i would just suggest you follow their instruction and do what they says... even if its raining.

I don't need to show my bike here 'cus I don't have one.
