Hi all, i just pass my 2B lic but was on the road for 2years. Had been driving for 1yrs+. so my question is, it is legal to jus cut thru car by the side? If accident happen (Touch wood) who is at the fault? Are we able to claim insurance? Thanks for your time!

I don't know whether it''s right or wrong legally but during theory classes for my 2A they sort of discouraged you by showing accidents where bikers get sandwiched left and right by lorries and buses.

It'd be more of how confident are you going in between vehicles i guess..Most riders do it all the time(me included), i normally will check out how firmly does those two drivers drive, if they aren't sure where they are going or showing signs of paying more attention to everything else but driving, I opt not to squeeze between them.

Having said that, those who catch us for dangerous riding ride like a.rsehol.e's all the time. Signal one second then lane change, undertake people(overtake from the left side), weaving in and out of traffic, riding way above speed limit( tailed them on PIE going over 130kmh)..So much for safe riding....

Just my2cents..

Just realised i didn't answer your question..Maybe those who have experience can chip in. But bro why are u worried bout insurance claim when if (touch-wood) accident happened, us riders are always on the losing side. It'll cost us our limbs but cost drivers a wing mirror. Even if you win the money would you feel worth it if ur in cast for months? No hard feelings..

Thanks for the explanation ticks.. I've been riding OTR for 2weeks + ? I horn more than 10 times alrdy.. Damn scary, some car even change lane from 3rd to 1st

Anyway, anyone can tell me issit legal to do so?

You've ridden for 1yr+ and you've never filtered? Dafuq! Bro, imo, filtering is safer than in between 2 vehicles. You'll never know if the vehicle behind pay attention or not, thats why under no circumstances do I cut closely or ride in front of heavy vehicles.

Normally I ride relaxed, which means no aggressive riding, meaning no crazy filtering, swerving, corner as much as my footrest let me. That's just not possible when I'm late though.

Got once i was riding on lane 1 there was a car come from merging lane straight to in front of me..lucky police behind saw him cut dangerously near to me, on siren and go catch the bugger...still remember that Mitsu Colt..

Haha Jehuty, i've been driving for 1yr + not riding :) Sometime really scare when passing by cars. nvr check blindspot and just hit u...

Get used to the bike first la, then want to ride hard will be easier and safer.

i will suggest try not to lane split if possible unless traffic speed is really slow like 0-50km/h. specially during wet condition it is a very risky habit. also do remember when you are having a pillon, it is much more difficult to control the bike. have more experince in riding first.

chance are you will be bearing part of the fault if an accident do happen. that is not the main point. the problem is the rider usually end up with injury in the accident.

i don't think it worth the risk for myself. up to you to decide.

It is legal to cut through cars in SG. But in some other countries, they are not. If I am not wrong, most European countries ban this.

There is a reason why our 2b/a/2 lessons have the plank course. They are preparing us to SQUEEZE..

while there is no law that specifically states that filtering is illegal, the 'reckless riding/driving' rule and penalty can be used against an act of filtering. the problem is that this is obviously a vague rule. a vehicle that cuts abruptly in front of you, if spotted by tp, can be charged with reckless driving. but exactly how abrupt before he is considered reckless driving? and how to measure? dun have, purely down to the mata who spots it. exactly the same case with filtering. thats why during peak traffic with very slow moving vehicles in congestion, mata might not stop all the bikers going past the cars slowly between lanes. try doing it like an illegal racer in normal traffic....

insurance is always case by case basis. from first hand cases of insurance claims from bikers i know, it is always the specific circumstances of the accident that matter. its always about whose fault, or what portion of blame the two parties have to bear. you are not automatically at fault for filtering, but i personally think its hard to claim total innocence if an accident occurs while you're filtering.

and finally, dun dare to filter then dont lor. 90% of the time i dun filter, and i'm on a sports class 2. i disagree that filtering is safest for a biker. i feel that a biker is safest keeping within the lane like a car, but off-center slightly. all my overtakes are done proper. the 10% of the time i filter is strictly traffic jam or red lights.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

And the bumpy course is to train you to pass through the ridiculous speed bumps in customs...

I heard quite a number of accident occuring while lane-spilt, mostly is 50/50 to blame, even when some cases was the car at fault.

My advice is, no matter its legal or not, once accident occur, we are always at the losing end. :(

Dats why I jus dont understand those bikers (especially Malaysian ones) who squeeze in between cars, tailgate and ride like they will never die. Shortcut to paradise my frens!

yup it's legal ....as long you can proof you are steady, and the other party is a pu-ki...

but short of getting proof , in any accident , we end up as the pu-ki if not mati....

but still do it when it's safe to do , measure the costs, avoid the shotgunner and live to ride another day.
