Just now had an accident. Now I'm not pointing fingers but I'd like to quell my anger and curiosity on who's right and who's wrong.

http://i43.tinypic.com/34glp5k.jpg

I was filtering right and i already signalled, slowed down and was about to go into the lane when another bike rammed me from the side. Anybody had this kind of encounters? Who's in the wrong/right?

Both wrong in filtering.

But he should have the right of way as he going straight, you should wait for him to pass and filter out.

Even you signal doesn't mean you can just filter out without letting ppl to pass first.

huh? so filtering is wrong?

i thought TS should give way to the bike going straight but it seems like he didn't. o_O

Well If i saw him i'd gladly give way, But when I just glanced over my shoulder i didnt see anything so i proceeded but he suddenly came and at some decent speed especially in that heavy traffic. But i have to admit, the person was in the right of way.

Honestly, its not really his fault. This is one of my fears when changing filter lanes, you have to be very sure, some people filter fast, by some people I mean me, if some bike pops out, there's no chance I can stop in time and if I'm the one doing the changing, usually its moving traffic where I can smoothly change filter lanes on the move or I make sure nothing is coming my way, hard to see so I usually inch out first.

I think what he meant is both is in the wrong to lane split or squeezing in between cars to begin with.

I hate people who think that when they signal means they have the right to come into their lane and those who anyhow filter when you are going straight.

Many times, its the singaporeans who do this. They malaysians, even though they ride like hell riders, they have some courtesy when trying to filter.

there wasn't a need for a shouting match cause its damn obvious u are almost 99% if not 100% in the wrong ...if i was the bike who rammed into you , i would have been damn pissed as well ...its riders like you that endanger other ppl's life yet still think they are right ....signal so ???? big F ??

Both in the wrong, as TS was squeezing out from between cars.

The other party is wrong for riding between cars.

But on this matter. TS is in the wrong. Filtering, with signal lights, does not makes it safe to filter. You as a rider/pedestrain/motorist, has a obligation to make sure its safe to do so. Not only for yourself, but for other road users.

BTW, I hope TS is apologetic to the Rider going straight. Or else, this is all going to be for us to rant at inconsiderate road user TS.

Lane splitting in traffic law is grey area..

But TS is definitely wrong, the other rider has the right of way when we disregard the presence of cars..

I lane split each morning at high speeds, if there's a bike coming in this way, there'll be no chance for me to stop as well..

When you signal in btw cars, who can see?

Lane splitters are always on alert, but reaction times are not that much for a bike accelerating out from btw cars compared to cars attempting to change lanes..

When you signal, you dun have right of way until the car in the lane gives way to you.. This is one of the theory questions during your riding/driving theory..

hummm if TS was filtering when in between cars , i belive onli the car driver can see that he signal , due to the angle , so i doubt the other rider who is going straight can see that there is signal ..

and also like what ppl mention signal doesnt give u the right off way , which some car drivers uses to argue

which bring me to another point of off topic argument with my ex riding friend

travelling on lane 1 at 120km/h

lane 2 is empty

a car came fast at lane 1 at starts flashing him , he ignores till the car behind is force to go lane 2 and then lane 1 and repeats the flashing incident

my argument was that he could have travel at lane 2 thus prevents such incident

his argument was that he is already at 120km/h and if that fellow is really in a hurry , he could have jus go to lane 2 and proceed instead of repeating his high beam movement

so who is in the right ??

just move aside and let the car pass lo, why must stay in lane 1 endanger yourself because of ego issue. thats what i will say to your friend la. cause alot of such not giving way cases is a matter of ego and pride, not actually who is going faster than who.

anyway to ts, you're in the wrong la. but just be glad you are still ok. could have been worse. next time switch filter lane, think i slowly slowly inch out liao. if the lane splitting bike see me inch out slowly never brake in time, he's probably going too fast anyway.

If there's a car traveling faster than you, even you are at 299kph, you still give way..

Cuz you are traveling at the overtaking lane.. So just give way..

This particular rule affects great when you are on NSHW..

Try doing 120kph on lane 1 from JB to Sadao, tell me if no one flashes you..

well that was wat i mention

and i said first lane is for overtaking

his insistence is such that if u are really in a hurry , u could have switch lane instead of highbeaming and tailgating

and my insistence is such that he should have stayed at lane 2 since its clear ....

and oh well that concludes our lavender foodcourt debate

Posted

Then again, if one is not overtaking, he should not have stayed on the overtaking lane..

Thats why in SG and Msia, so many ignorant riders/drivers..

See other countries such as US, no vehicles will be on the overtaking lane unless they are overtaking or traveling really fast..

At NSHW, tour buses also only take lane 1 for overtaking.. After which, they just switch back to left lane..

Roads are for all of us to share..

I feel it's quite sad that you felt this way. Instead, you should be grateful that nothing bad happened to you or the other rider.

Whatever it is, my thought on this was that the other rider was not wrong to lane split but maybe he's not alert enough or too fast when lane splitting. TS on the other hand was not in the wrong to filter out right, but should be c**k sure that there are no other motorcycles fast approaching, not just merely glancing over the shoulder, before filtering out right.
