no problem mate. don't have to sweat on what type of oil to use. just choose one with the best bang for buck. good EO allow longer OCI while average EO provide shorter OCI.

 

if you are not going to push the distance, just get cheaper dino oil like Delvac MX which will do the job just as good as expensive synthetic oil.

 

cold-start wear is over-rated. any decent oil will protect just as well as expensive oil.

saw this make in Germany Schnell Maximax II fully synthetic for bike @ AMK NTUC today. it is 5W60. for those that required a 60wt for your bike you might want to give it a try. cost only $13.70.

WHY USE A SYNTHETIC?

Synthetic lubricants are engineered to do the job of a conventional lubricant - but they do it much, much better. Think of them as bionic lubricants, if you will! Though a bit more costly to produce and, therefore, more expensive to buy, these "super lubricants" can actually save you money in the long run.

The primary function of motor oil is to provide lubrication between moving metal parts in the engine. The friction caused by these parts when they move together creates high levels of heat that cause damage unless a lubricant is introduced to the mechanism. A lubricant will smooth the surfaces and enable the parts to move freely against one another with reduced friction and, consequently, reduced wear and heat. This is a function that conventional motor oil can perform quite well but a synthetic can perform far better.

All lubricants fall into one of three categories: liquid (oil), semiliquid (grease), and solid (graphite). All three are derived from vegetable, mineral, or synthetic base stock. However, were these raw materials alone used to lubricate modern, high-precision machinery; they would quickly overheat, catch fire, evaporate or emulsify. To guard against this, all lubricants are doctored to a certain extent - processed to remove impurities and bolstered with chemical additives. Synthetic lubricants, however, are manufactured specifically to stand up to the severe conditions under which conventional oils might falter. They are designed to possess viscosity characteristics superior to those of mineral oils. The resulting lubricants have a molecular structure that is tailored to meet and often exceed manufacturers' criteria for high-performance engines.

Oh didn't know they have for bike also. I have seen that brand in Giant and also in NTUC AMK but both were those huge 4 L cans meant for cars.

60 weight engine oil will be very thick. so make sure your bike manual states that you have to use a 60 weight oil. or else stick to 40 weight or 50 weight.

 

personally, comparing 40 weight to 50 weight oil. I can personally vouch for lighter viscosity. with the 40 weight, the engine feels lighter, throttle response is better, vibrations are also lesser (surprisingly) although the engine gets hotter.

 

with weight 50 oil, because of the thicker formulation, the engine might feel alittle sluggish, and vibrations for me is higher than 40 weight. but the engine runs cooler abit.

 

i would expect using a 60 weight on my Phantom, would make it very slow.

i'd say most inline-4 sportbikes use ??w40 oil.. 50wt might be abit too thick... sluggish for ur engine.. 50wt more for air-cooled single/twins... cux ur bike is watercooled, not dat hot... can use lower viscosity, and better for performance..

any decent oil will do. changing your oil regularly is much more important then cracking your head over what type or brand of oil to use. unless you are riding your bike other then commuting or planning to do extended oil change interval, most oil will just do fine in your engine.

NOt sure about 60wt of oil as 1st time using.

Previously have been using 50wt such as chexx,maxima ETC..

I will be changing it tomorrow.

from a few UOA that i read, fuchs seem to shear out of weight in no time.

Those who are not used to heavy engine sound do not use this.

I always use 50wt oil.

1st time use it feels my gear change is heavier and the rest is good.

No problem to go long distance as i feel its better than 50wt except for heavy gear change.

Will post when i feel its time to change.

I got it from AMK NTUC.

So far cheap and good. I may get the big bottle if i feel it is worth it.

I would like try CARLUBE oil as well just that it is 40wt.
