how old is your bike?

get a battery checked and charged first, then replaced if the problem persists.

if you plan to let your bike hibernate for a month, i suggest just disconnecting the battery.

if u ride long distances then it charges your battery as you ride.

if you rarely ride and rarely travel far, then i suggest that you sell the bike instead.

like the way you put it. :thumb:

The bike is an '07, I bought it 18 months ago and haven't touched the battery since I got it.

I think what killed the battery is the day before I left for two weeks, I had a GPS installed, after which I didn't ride enough to recharge the battery fully. That, combined with my less-than-ideal riding habits probably caused the flat.

Valid point about selling the bike. I'll do that, after I squeeze in a few more travels in Malaysia and hopefully Thailand (starting with Penang next week) :thumb:

what kopiosatu mention makes sense. but i guess u have to factor in, if your current bike loan enable u to sell it off or u already fully paid.

just change the battery and check the rectifier. next time round remove your Gps or disconnect your headlamps.

Actually, since you parked it for a long period of time...but you're still around at the carpark...why not just start it for 3 mins with a couple of reving on the throttle...guess the batt will not fail you if you wanna use it again..

Whenever I go for a long overseas trip...I will start the bike once I'm back..at the same time, I will check whether anybody play punk on my bike since I dont have the habit to cover it.

Yeah, I'm going to get into that habit. Even just take it out for 30 minutes mid-week at night should help.

Last night a friend came by and we jump-started the bike. After an hour's ride last night, it started beautifully this morning. I offered to drop the wife off at work 'cause it's further away and lets me exercise the bike

Well done...perhaps bring it for a spin and have a meetup with us during the weekend...that should surely help in recharging its batt..

Yeah, really jump started. Used another bike, not a car. A quick net search turned up some people worried about frying some of the electronics on board, but many others saying it worked fine. As in my case. Thank goodness. I was a bit anxious :faint:

Why is that so? I've used both a Vespa and a Lancer to jump start before... All 12V batt, idling voltage maybe 14V...

hi fjrians,

anyone experiences a clutch issue?

you squeeze the clutch to the max and can't engage the gear you want.

I have changed a new set of clutch plates and the situation persist after riding for 30 minutes.

any advice?

Thanks.

As there are brand new, normally you have to brake in the clutch plates. Let them run for some distance. For mine is after 500km, things start to get little better. Kicking of gears is very hard and put the gears to Neutral is even harder.

But its perfectly fine to use a bike's to jump start right, since the voltage regulator won't really pump out anything way beyond 14V....

did u adjust the clutch lever?

u have 5 levels to adjust and the clutch release point can be put further up.

eerrh... bro never heard of break in or run in for new clutch plates lah...

you probably face the same issue as mine. got to do with other causes such hydraulic hose, pump or something else....

fjr clutch and gear should not be so screwed up...

To eliminate some possibilities, I assume you've bled the hydraulic clutch, change the engine oil and ensure its not overfilled? Yours is the manual shift model?

i was thinking MAYBE its engine oil because this is the first time i heard that someone has trouble changing gear.

but i did a search on line... it could be the shift fork

Mine is ducati dry clutch. After ruuning it in. Now it is better already. Not too sure whether dry and wet clutch work the on same principle though

happened on my wing before. clutch lever side pump leaking and hose leaking. ride for first 5 mins ok. but after that clutch felt too soft to the point that biting point was lost. but rest awhile and the biting point came back. makes no sense but it really happened

Hi Fjrians,

Hope anyone can help me on this. Passing light on the bike has become very ineffective. I will have to press it pretty hard at a certain angle and the light will be on. I suspect that its the contact point in the console on the left. (The one with the windscreen adj)

Anyone has encounter this before and could help on this? I rely on the passing light quite often when passing junctions.
