Today I met a couple, should be foreigner. They stopped me and asked if I could spare them some $$ to let them find a place to stay while they contact their friend here. Once their friend fetches them, they promise to return me the $.

Then I asked them, "How much?"

The guy said,"$30."

Siao.

I told him, I don't bring that much $ out. I purposely dig out 70c.

Then the guy asked if I could lend them $5 for a meal.

I looked at his girl, she tried to give me a pitiful smile.

Then I see that both of them are very well dressed. My goodness.

Doesn't he even have 10c to make a phone call?

But I didn't want to be rude, so I smiled and say I got no $, sorry.

He gave me a dirty look and both of them walked off.

 

$30? They think we v rich, easily give $30 to strangers? Mad or what.

30 rupiah maybe I consider.

I don't even lend money to friends, what more a stranger? Not because I'm stingy or a scrooge but I've had bad experiences in the past whereby friendships are severed because of money. It is very easy to lend or borrow money from friends but it is VERY hard to get it back or to return it. So now when friends want to borrow money from me, I just say that I value our friendship too much to risk lending him money...
