I have heard that if you do not warm up your bike properly before running hard on it, it can cause problems in the long run.

So how to warm up the bike correctly, especially from a cold start?

if its a liquid cooled bike, jus warm up to a certain temp using the temp gauge

for air cooled ones, jus hang on for a few mins wil do. try not to rest on side stand.

So is revving better or just leave it to idle there? And, if need to rev, rev until how much?

IMHO got no point to rev or let it idle for lond periods(unless u want to fry eggs)..aft u move off,ur bike temp will also increase wat so why need to warm for so long..just let it idle for a while(abt 1 min or less)..and even b4 tat 1 min, ur engine oil already doing its job to every part of ur engine..even better if can move slowly while in the carpark..of course tats just my opinion, others will have theirs :thumb:

i'm also one of those who dun believe in warming up the engine. say idle rpm is 1000...the pistons go up and down 16times a second...by the time i reverse out of the slot at least 100-200 times aready...should be very well lubricated dun you think?

DO. Or DO NOT. There is no TRY.

warming up of engine basically allows your pistons to expan to allow proper sealing. if anyone ever notice when they move off in the morning without warming up, they will find that their bike will have no power...

if you are a smoker, a stick of cigarette would be enough to warm up your bike... hahaha...

Warming up it helps the engine to be lubricated properly and have complete combustion in the piston chamber. That's the reason there is rattling sound and/or "hesitation" on the cold engines. All engines are designed to best perfom at about 90 deg C. Revving a cold engine is resulting damage to the engine on the long run. It is advisable to let yr bike idle for 30-60 sec when cold before riding off. Afterwards try to keep low rpm till engine is proberly wormed up.

Cheers

Haha same here. I always move through the carpark VERY slowly.

But i've seen many who literally raced throught the carparks. Most of the times showed off some insane cornering as well.

for efi bikes with 'auto choke', start the engine WITHOUT REVVING. just press the ignition button, mount the bike, move off slowly and ride at low rpms until the throttle is smooth

some mechs told me to warm up at least one stick finish or betw 5-8minutes esp when cold start(with/out choke)......afterdat...VVVROOOM! so far so good...

I light one when i step out of my house lift. Smoke slowly while walking to the carpark. Take out helmet and put it on my mirror. start engine, and rest my bum on the seat. once i hear that the engine is running smoothly i put on my helmet and go off slowly. often the ciggy got like 1/4 to 1/3 left. only when its freaking cold, like the morning after night rain then it would take more than one stick.

slight variation in my case...helmet on while walking to carpark, light up a stick, straddle on, start engine, kickup side stand, reverse out and go. got cigg in mouth, so won't ride fast, low rpm, and half the time need to stop at traffic light before main road. finish the stick, drop the butt ( can be left or right hand side depending, but just drop, nvr flick :p ). if raining i won't smoke and ride, but ride slowly instead. Either way, considered as warm-up already right? :)

DO. Or DO NOT. There is no TRY.
