Oh... Okie...

I pump max pressure....

Can i ask, y do u use lesser pressure when on track? When i haven pump my tyres (less pressure), i feel not so stable...

you lower ur pressure on the track because a softer tyre will have a greater contact patch with the road surface, which in turns increases grip. :)

yup..wat mr crumbs mentioned is correct. softer equals more grip, but not too soft lah. and also when u on track, where lotsa high speed corners and straights, yr tyres will heat up faster therefore pressure rise faster. if u put high pressure like when u do normal rides...then when on track, means yr tyre pressure will rise even higher. then yr grip will be very poor already. get wat i meant?

correct me if i'm wrong mr crumbs

Affirmative MSF67. :)

In addition, the advantage of a lower tyre pressure is increased grip but you lose a little stability and your tyres will wear faster. And of course, increased fuel comsumption.

If you stick to that the recommended tyre pressure (for road riding) according to the manual, you should be fine. which in case u've forgotten, is 36 psi up front and 40 psi at the rear.

Standard agreement/recommendation between tyre and machine manfacturers is 36 front and 42 rear. 250/290 kpa.

The reason y u shud lower pressure on e track is becoz of a few other following reasons:

1) Ur tyre will have more flex under lower pressure, which heats/warms up the tyre quicker. All tyres have optimum temperature to work in for more grip.

2) Under track/aggressive usage, the tyre heats up more than usual, so is the air inside the tyre. So if u pump normal pressure (36/42) and heat up e tyre under aggressive riding, there will be over-inflation. This is e main reason.

IMO, I personally don't find tyres which have lower pressure got poorer stability. Infact it should be vice-versa, coz high pressure is high-flipability, low pressure provides that flex adjacent to the tarmac which should provide more stability but lesser flipability. High pressure also equals to less drag, more speed, and vice versa.

But remember, not all tyres work by this rule. For example Pirelli (Supercorsas) I've used recommend a 250/250 front/rear pressure and they work well. Michelin recommend 31 front and 29 rear for track.

Also, lesser pressure does not always mean good. Under-inflation will result in too much flex and cause e tyre to overheat. I've tried under-inflated tyres and the tyre went like goo/jellish after 10 laps and had no grip traction at all.

Some might ask why front got higher pressure, cause e front is meant to steer. So if e front tyre suffers under-inflation, ur turn-in/flipping into corners will be retarded and slow. Sometimes tyre pressures under track condition is very personal and variable, due to conditions like rider-capability, track conditions and ambience temperature.

My 2 cents, hope I'm not barging in.

What I used to do on e track is that i will pump a pressure which I felt comfortable wif e handling. When e tyres are still cold, I will pump alittle higher, once e tyres are heated, i will let loose some air.

E ideal pressure for most riders under track usage when e tyres is HEATED UP shud be around 250~260 kPa front/rear (est 36 psi). If u r intending to do some stunts wif e bike, I wud go even lower like 23~25 psi rear, it really helps when u r pulling that front wheel up. BTW, I used to own a 03 CBR6 also, I heard e new bike is even more awesome.

Wow.... All this explaination and opinions are down rite fantastic...!! :thumb:

All this info are good knowledge to me... Heh... But I have nv gone to track before, therefore, i cannot know how the pressure works on track...

But on normal road riding, after i pump my tyres, i feel so much stable than before... Dunno y it works for me the other way round... I guess normal road ridin and track riding is a big difference... Thats y...

But mr. crumbs said that lower pressure will have higher fuel consumption and wear out faster.... Haha... Being poor, i shall have my tyres pump every fornite i guess... Haha...

Btw twat, nope, u r not bargin in, u should continue ur stay in here and contribute more of ur knowledge to the rest of us here... :thumb:

went to idac... sent to shop... now just w a i t . . .

Hope to hear good news from u soon bro... :)

it doesnt works for u the other way round. it works for all the same way. of coz having the pressure as specified when doing normal riding will give the best performance coz u not doing aggresive riding like on the track. probably its not really stability u felt, but the ease of handling yr bike on the road. like wat twat said....flipability. but when on track, u need grip, so hav to lower pressure which will also end up rising due to yr agrresive riding. and yes, lower pressure tyre equals higher wear and fuel consumption.

u said yr handling was not stable. if its a lot, probably u hav not check yr tyre pressure for very long. no good. probably yr pressure was even lower then the pressure required on track....hahahah
