To ride on the road, You need skills,Stamina, or even luck.

But to be a good rider, you have to change with your environment, and adjust yourself to its rhythm.

Cultivate the confidence to face the different situations. Don't let yourself to be subdued by the environment :thumb:

A martial art that not only teaches you discipline and how to defend yourself but also keeps you fit. MMA or Mixed Martial Arts is getting more popular these days. You can checkout one of the gyms at the old police academy at Thomson Road

I did aikido for a while, got my blue before dropping out due to work commitments. The form I practiced is call Ki No Kenkyukai form which includes the development of KI or "CHI" in chinese(inner strength). There should be three or more dojos now. You can gain more insight into this by reading C.M. SHIFFLETT's "KI in Aikido" and "Aikido-exercises for teaching and training"

Considering going back...

I do Aikido too .... Personally .. I feel it is more philosopical.... instead of using brute force..... Sensei say a small girl can easily overpower a big guy .... for me I think there is a chance but might not always be true.... Aikido forces your opponent to go into positions that u can then take advantage of .... The nice thing about it is u get to roll around like a ninja every session ..... The roll is everything .....

The very crux of Aikido is to not injure your opponent. The shorter and smaller you are the more advantage you have over your opponent provided he or she makes the "attack", hee hee, if not there will be two statues.......

Besides aikido is a form that you can practice till you are old, other forms like tae kwon do, muay tai, hard contact ones... you can expect injuries and as you age recovery is slower and sometimes impossible (no 100%).

Aikido is everywhere nowadays.

Just do a search online.

Aikido Shinjukai - http://www.aikido.com.sg

Aikikai Singapore - http://www.aikikaisingapore.com

Aikido Federation Singapore - http://www.aikidofederation.com

Ueshiba Aikido Singapore - http://www.ueshibaaikido.org/

Ki Society - http://www.ki-aikido.com.sg/

Yushinkai Singapore

Tendoh Ryu Singapore

Tomiki Aikido

Zhen Qi Shu Aikido

Maybe there's more. I would have done Capoeira if it's not so ex.

hmmm..

any difference between the lot you just listed?

any other not so well known martial arts??

yeah...it used to be alot cheaper..

when it first started, it was $5 for working adults $3 for students...per mnth(8 lessons) excluding uniform which was $90

then when the master came to singapore, it was $90 for 8 lessons, + $90 for uniform...

now i think it's $90 or $120 for 8 lessons + $95 for uniform & another $90 annual membership fee...

i love capoeira but this is just ridiculous...

& i used to follow the master to macpherson ITE to teach capoeira there.....

without incentive....

oh, & your first batizado or graduation is $250....

workshops vary in price from $90 onwards......depending on who is invited to come...

check out the website if you want to know more....

There are all Aikido schools with slightly different styles.

The first 4 and the last one does Aikikai Style. (Main school traditional)

The Ki-Society is another school of Aikido which puts heavy emphasis on Ki training. Not sure abt Yushinkai though but I guess they draw strong influences from the Ki schools. I have not trained with them so not too sure abt that.

Tomiki Aikido is competitive Aikido. (The dojo is relatively new and very few Singaporeans practise it or know about its existence.)

I cannot comment much about Tendoh Ryu because to me, there is not much difference. In fact, between the Aikikai Schools, there can be some differences depending on the instructor but the principles are pretty much the same.

It is best that you go and observe the classes first and decide which is a better school for you. (Or if Aikido is suitable for you in the first place)

For capoeira, for NUS alumni/staff/students, the fees are $60 for 8 lessons. Even then, I felt that it is a bit too much. Perhaps I am too pampered by the relatively low fees I am enjoying in my dojo.

Seems like MMA and grappling art is the in thing now. And search ard online and you would be suprised to see quite a number of schools ard.

I'm current taking up MMA lessons. Good workout and nice environment. What i like about it is that the instructor has competed fairley widely in multiple martial arts and has represent Singapore many times in international comps as well. Plus he's patient enough for newbies. Its nice to know that what he teaches, he personally uses in his own fights.

Currently classes are held Sat 3-5pm and Tues 7-9pm. You can chose to come once a week or twice a week (based on your scheduled).

If u interested let me know (by PM) and i'll intro u. First lesson is considered a trial and therefore free.
