After putting in fork oil, i don't think my scott oiler is working , as in the oil still remains at the same level after riding for months , must we strictly have to put scott oiler refills only ?

advice anyone ?

have you tried adjusting the flow rate? anyway why did you top up with fork oil?

maybe your fork oil too thick??

I've tried Esso EO before for about 2500km.. works ok..

fork oil ?? OMG ...what were u thinking ? the oil has to be a certain viscosity inorder to flow. ...fork oil if im not wrong is too thick and i dunt think fork oil has any lubricating properties at all

i was also thinking fork oil could be too thick , though it looked pretty watery and low in viscosity in my eyes ..

Perhaps besides the scott oiler refill , i shld look for some lubrication alternatives .. pretty hard pain to sell the scott oiler " not working "

Used it many years back when riding chain driven bike...shaft for 3 yrs plus liao..lol...all i can say when scott olier came out, it was damn good a investment. scot works with the help o fthe engine vacum thats why it flows when engine on.

BTW the other oiler if i not wrong is rabbit oiler. using the help of gravity. In terms of less frills, I would say scot is better but price is 4-5 times diff. and definitely looks diff also. Using EO shouldnt be a prob as I tried b4.....and i think EO better than fork oil as its usage type resemble oiling chain...fork's ergonomics diff leh....? Correct me if I wrong. One is metal to metal action...One is up down action?

fork oil if im not wrong has more of a damping property rather than a lubing property , maybe if anyone is adventurous enough they can puncture a can oil chain lube and pour the contents into the scott oil reservoir

using EO can liao.. i been using carefour EO (total) for the past year.. so far so good.. somemore very cheap only... $5 per bottle..

-sOnG- i think maybe you can take out the scott oiler and clean den change all the tube liao most likely can get it back to work...

For this product if for singapore road, will chain over oil? Heard from friend that this good for touring as bike constancely move while it continue to drip. as SG it move and stop which cause chain over oil. iszit true

i would discourage installation for the honda phantom as the unit is fully visible n easily stolen. a friend of mine lost it. unless u can find some way to hide the reservoir n yet easily refill it... or find a way to do the equivalent of the rabbit oiler as it is much cheaper to replace when stolen.

otherwise, i agree wif other posters that a scottoiler is indeed a very good investment. personally, i had used a chua oiler (a manually operated gravity feed system on just 1 side of the sprocket, using cheap engine oil) on a sportbike for over 2 yrs, 30,000km without any adjustment to the chain n no discernible wear on sprocket teeth. another friend i know wif a scottoiler has gone over 50,000km wif the same results (but he's worried abt metal fatigue... nothing lasts forever).

on the other hand, when i went back to spray lubrication, my chain n sprockets showed noticeable wear in 6 months (under 8,000km travelled). admittedly i was quite lazy n lubed only once in 3 weeks (i clean the chain first before lubrication, using maxima chain wax).

the scottoiler dispenses oil at a fixed rate regardless of road or engine speed. it is almost purely governed by the dial on the reservoir. it does spill onto the left side of the rear wheel if the setting is too high. so u must adjust to the point where spill is controlled n the o-rings on the chain looks shiny (damp).

usually, this means a setting of 1 to 3 (the dial goes up to 10), using scottoiler's high temp oil (local weather is always above 24c). the manual says adjust to 2 drops per minute but i look at my rear wheel n chain after a ride n adjust from there (a habit from chua oiler days). currently i'm on a setting of 2.

i do notice that on stop n go traffic the scottoiler, once adjusted properly, does not spill. however, on the ns highway going at a constant 140kph it does spill a bit. i think it has to do wif the higher centrifugal forces.

just keep dat in mind n try not to corner too low on left handers (assuming ur chain is on the left). for me dis is acceptable against the hassle of maintaining a chain manually.

most bike manuals suggest use of gear oil or engine oil for the chain i believe. having experienced for myself the use of engine oil (chua oiler) n scottoiler, i think either 1 will do a very good job. lighter oil means more spillage certainly.

Its good. Takes good care of your chain and sprocket and prevent your finger from getting dirty. A worthy investment. Just dont overset the oil too much, can be a mess.
