You need to spray on both the interior and the exterior of the chain.

A chain lube is more preferred as it has better protection against rust. Applying grease is also a good option.

I'm trying the Silkolene Titanium Chain gel thingy. Offer price so I ordered a few.

FIrstly, it's my first time using chain wax. I've always been using chain lube (Silkolene, Repsol, PJ1 etc). My first dislike is that...it's white in color. Ok, it has the advantage of letting you know exactly where you miss out on the chain but then, may not look very nice. Looked like fire extinguisher foam/shaving cream on my chain!

Second issue is that the chain wax/gel don't look wet at all! It look like a dry foam on the chain. I prefer the glossy, wet look of chian lube on my chain cos it look lubricated that way.

But I must admit it's pretty fling proof. Still, I wanna go back to chain lube. So if anyone wishes to try I can sell you at $7 each brand new bottle (I paid $8.50 each, 400ml). I have 2 more bottles.

Suggest you give Maxima Chain Wax a try. I hated all chain wax products till I tried this one. It sprays on wet, exactly like an oil. Sets up dry. Then when your chain heats up, it will become slightly fluid again, lubricating more like a wet lube than a dry lube.

Must always clean/degrease the chain first before applying the maxima chain guard?

I use neither wax or chain oil, simply heavy weight Gear Oil, 90w. The various oils and waxes on teh market are really convenience things. They will work well enough, as long as you use them correctly. I have no bad opinion about any of them really, as they all are about the same.

Unfortunately too many riders just spray on the stuff and then ride off and think that will make their chain lubed.

Using gear oil is not as convenient, and it can be a bit of a pain to brush on as I do. But I save a hell of a lot by not spending that much on lubing my chain. Yes it does last very well, I get pretty high mileage from my chains.

I concur!

May I know where you buy your gear oil? It's getting hard to find them nowadays, the petrol stations no longer stock them.

I also use fully syn gear or engine oil.

Can get a chain oiler to drip feed the chain as you ride the bike (refer signature)

Chris,

I was told that additives in the motoroil are bad for O-ring seals, and was recommended to use only gear oils.

Do you know anything more about this?

rubber will harden and crack if soak in oil for too long..

i dun noe the rubber quality is the same as rubber seal in the chain..

maybe the rubber seal in the chain may harden and crack, damaging the seal..

i dun noe wat oil is most suitable, but i using mineral oil to lube my chain..

cheap cheap..

3 bucks for 1 litres..

the chain hav being on the bike for 12 months..

still going strong.. haven tighten before since change of the chain..

but going for tighten this weekend..

I tried PJ chainlube before and in my opinion, this brand is :thumb: . The lube does not fling so much and my rims were cleaner than when I used other brands of chain wax or lubes... :)

LAB's GP1 Chainjelly : a revolutionary chain lubricant

got it at S$5 from LAB. Haven't started using yet...dunno if gd or not. anyone here has used this before? :)

i think i tried before, it flings everywhere. My chain lube also flings, so far i think chain wax is less flinging.
