Bought Alpinestars air-flo from Regine... not bad. Heavy mesh with armour and rain resistant liner. All black... comfy and not too warm, nice looking too. The short chinese salesman was very helpful too... good service...

Does anybody have any idea on this? In 2003, a SIngaporean company came up with a prototype airbag jacket for bikers. It's a jacket that inflates in 0.5sec once u leave the bike 'unintentionally'. Is it out for sale? I am waiting to buy it since hearing about it and see ing it then. I guess it will be the ultimate safety gear for bikers. A little help please!!!:help:

Check this thread out. I am creating a club of bikers for bikers. This is for intercultural intergration. Come on in, fellow bikers.

Wow! First of all, i gotta say that i'm damned surprised that this thread is still alive!

Anyway, i thought that i'd give an update for my personal experience.

I bought the Teknic Gear Aquavent Mesh jacket last year from the US.

Paid About S$230 for it, and i think it's worth every cent. It's good quality mesh jacket with a very nice inner liner (not like Rjay's which is kinda scratchy, IMO). There's also a removable waterproof liner. Under daytime riding conditions, it keeps the rider pretty cool coz of the good venting. Once the bike moves - hooo-weee.... feel the breeze!

It comes with 5 piece Knox CE approved armour (which has hard plastic to protect you from more serious impacts. More info at http://www.planet-knox.com). Please note that not all armour paddings are created equal. Many brands give you double or even single density foam paddings. This is unlikely to survive serious impacts. Not that CE armour is impervious, but it certainly buys u an additional degree of protection. Note that inferior padding is not a function of price. That is, just because it's expensive doesn't mean you're getting the good stuff. I know of a certain jap brand (known for it's raingear) that also sells so called armour jackets. What you getting is basically a good raincoat with single density padding. And the price? S$280. Moral of the story? Do your homework b4 buying.

I've had this for 1 yr now, but i wear it only during for trips up north. It's certainly practical enough for daily rides in singapore though.

So my verdict? Definately worth getting, but be aware of what you are buying. In case anyone's interested the site is :

i still wear my clover nitro, more then five years old, 1 accident wif it. flew more than 10 metres, landed, rolled more than 5m.

just a slight abrasion on the shoulder, and a small hole on the wrist.

quite warm, but proven. practicality is my skin, flesh was protected. period

Just wear a normal rainjacket over it, problem solved. More practical than buying both a mesh and a water-proof jacket separately.

where to get it?? i want!

I wonder wats the material of the air bag? Will it rip off easily when slides on hard tarmac? Guess it may still absorb the first impact before it rips.

It is not whether you need to armour yourself with a jacket or not!

Come on...GET REAL!!...you racer wannabes are only riding on the streets NOT RACING!!!!

What you really need is some armour on your brains....which is really all about the Riding Survival Tactics you need to perfect when riding on the streets.

And please...don't some smart jerk come and tell me an extra protection is always a welcome thing...becos when it comes to extra protection, you will only need that protection to be in a form of a rubber jacket NOT a armoured one!

Trying to act cool or wear cool looking riding gear...won't get you there any faster or safer in any case. :D

You need both brains and protection. If not, why do we wear helmets anyway? And what do you depend on when you are still developing your so-called "riding survival tactics"?

Get real yourself. Even seasoned riders make mistakes. And when they do, they survive because of the protector gear they wear. Squids don't because when they eventually make a mistake, they have nothing to fall back on. Did I mention that sometimes the mistakes of other road users can kill you?

I'd love to see you ride on the expressway without a helmet on. That is, if you don't get caught by the police first. I wear protective riding gear not because it looks cool, but because I don't want to have any more stitches on my skin.

I had 2 accidents in my past riding, skidded because of gravel on road while turning. Mind you I wasn't even speeding , just a slow turn on 3rd gear only.

Didn't have protective gears then, had skin torn from legs, and arms. Luckily no fracture of arms or legs or spine. Otherwise, must declare bankrupt in view of hospital expenses.

Another accident happened recently, with full armoured jacket & shin guard, no injuries whatso ever.

If you ask any one with at least 5 yrs of riding experience, 9 of 10 will tell you they had a accident before and it wasn't their fault. How many times had we encountered cars or taxi cutting into our lanes because of their blind spots? Almost everyday we see newspaper report of 1 or 2 person lose control of their bike & hit a road barrier or something...were they hit by a moving vehicle which caused them to lose control? Or was it gravel or sand on the road? I dunno know but I guess riders dun lose control of their bike so easily. In spore roads, it is unlikely these people lose control because of speeding.

What if one day it happens - facial injuries /disfigurement, spine fracture & paralysis, arms broken & amputation etc ; its much worse than death. Thats where the importance of armoured jacket & full faced helmet comes in. Its not a ego thing to invest in extra protection, but reduce your risks when the accident happens. Believe me, ask around amongst your bike riders friend with 5 yrs expereince whether they encounter any accidents before - they will tell you YES; and that day will also come to you & me.
