Hey guys, i din ride my steed for abt 4days and now it cant start! anyone got any idea wad happened? I was tinking cant be battery cos ive started my bike even after a wk of not riding and no problem. Also another problem, when i'm accelerating sometimes, it would be jerky...like sudden lost of power. But juz sent servicing at roslis abt 2mths ago..no problem.

Thanks for any advice!

dinosaur: Check the battery connections 1st?

Try push start it, let it charge for awhile before switching it off & E-start again. If e-start is ok, possibly the alternator is faulty?

If cant e-start, probably the batt's gone.

As for the idiling, try turning up the fuel intake via the 'lil knob 1st? Elsewise, the air intake screw could be the other option.

Just my minute knowledge on these issues. Hope it helps, if not, bring to yr trusty mech for a diagnose better. :goodluck: :thumb:

something similar happened to my steed also... Overnight, my steed can start but cannot move... steed draws e electrical current to fire the plugs directly from the battery and not from the alternator....

what happened to mine was that e rectifier was burnt... so somehow, when e bike was running, e battery's current was sucked away by e faulty rectifier when i rev the engine and hence cannot move...

i disconnected the rectifer and moved off normally... but battery died halfway on my way home cos i tried starting e bike for a long time before that... heng brother come rescue with spare battery.... after that went to ah boy buy a rectifier to change den all ok already....

hope this can roughly give u an idea of what has happened to your bike...

Gauntlet: Use the dip stick? Tk out, wipe clean, dip & check level before any engine start. try to rmber the level. Replace the dip as was before.

Then, start engine, run for abt 3-5mins, cease engine, dip test again for 2nd marking. Best done when bike is in upright level.

picanto: think it'll set u back for a few hundred for a new piece. May not have in stock immediately or already obsolete in the market..

Try scrapyards before heading to FJT or BS or Eversuccess, i.e. Ah Ann @ Jin Buroh there... :goodluck:

:sorry: :sorry:

I mixed up with Phantom's.

Then I suppose that light beacon is for the warning of insufficient or needness to change of the EO...

But then, I still practice what I do to my TA, about every 3000-4000km, change EO, EO filter & Spark plug(last both alternatively); or every 3 months; or whichever comes 1st.

I dont think there's a dipstick that's suitable for the measurement for our engine volume of cap.

Er... Anyone can prove me wrong?

i am intrested in getting a steed... so the questions are..

is a steed engine really bullet proof? i am interested in a 12year old steed.. exterior looks okie.. cracks and bit scratches here there... but engine sounds fine to me.. so what should i look out for?

how is an average consumption like for a steed.. VLX..

the mileage for the 12year bike is 140 000.

how is the maintiance like for a steed.. is it realiable enuff to go touring with it with regular servicing...

just worry of getting a problematic bike...

If you look at past posts you can find most of your answers. But I'll see what I can help you with even though I don't know much about steed.

It's not a Steed Engine that's bullet proof but a Honda engine :)

Mileage. Do the math. 140 000 divided by 12 yrs = appx 11666 per yr. Divided by 12 months again it's 972 a month. Could be high for some. Could be low. Or maybe the meter hs gone one round and it's actually more than 140 000km.

Maintenance is same for all class 2A bikes. You'll see a diff when you hit class 2 bikes with all the diff engine types.

Most bikes if well maintained can tour. We even have 2B bikes touring with us. Daystar, Phantom, KRR. You take care of your bike, your bike take care of you. :p

If you're interested in a Steed, you might wanna check out one of our bro's bike. Pipes got nice sound. Can check it out here. http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3565520

he's a nice guy la. Can test ride any time.

Hope it helps :)

It is, one helluva bullet proof bike!

Apart from the usual EO, filter & spark plug changes, its really quite hassle free maintenance.

For a better ride, recommend change for an aftermarket air filter(K&N), for long usage without the worry of replacement.

As for others, the usual to tk note of would be the clutch plates, clutch & throttle cables, front brake disc & rear brake drum, final drivetrain(Chain & sprocket), Rectifier(Did I get this wrong? But this is a common prob. for Steeds)& Battery.

As for the outer cosmetics, should be able to cover & conceal with a new layer of piant job.

My Steed's consumption not so good, need to turn to reserve hitting before 200km, maybe due to my bike's 17-8 yrs old le. So still trying to fine tune the output against the input.

Is yr interest bike's rear with solid cast sport rim or the old spokes?

Be prepare if you decide to go long dist on spokes thou.

(p.s. Its not the bike, rider or dist that matters, its the RIDE that really counts.) :thumb:

Engine cannot be judge by sound, Asks for a try ride for better understanding & feeling of the bike. Hopefully you can have a good deal out of it.

Hope my 0.02¢ helps & :goodluck:

thanks guys.. for ya help...

i confirm with a seller on a steed le.. so cant wait to ride it...

things i need to ask tho... it has been de-registered ... have not paid road tax.. so cant ride...

so whats the best procedure to get the bike in the leas amount spent... can i do insurance without roadtax first? cuz i think need inspection as well..

than need go shop for full servicing... any recommandation? but around queenstown or north area.. not to far...

IU unit also down.. petrol swtich from reserve to on and off also down.. tank giving off strong petrol smell.. but no sign of leakage.. so think could be of the spoiled switch.

good thing about the steed... 1owner, engine is excellent.

where can i get saddle bags that is able to fit full face helmet and be locked... ? or box? ahaha

no saddlebag is big enuff to fit fullface helmet.

for box that can fit fullface is only GIVI models. If u dun mind the awful looks lah.

apart from the awful looks, it is safe & secure.
