- Engine Oil: I use abt 2.7 litres of semi synthetic and I intend to change after 3000 km ( i also bought my Steed VSE abt 2 months ago.

- Oil Filter: shd be every oil change? or maybe every two oil change.

I got black rubber handle grips from LAB for $6 which is specially for Steed (Steed throttle grip are larger then normal bike)

I also looking for rear signal lights as my right rear one has previous 'buang' damages.

I am a Honda bike lover:-

Honda CRM 125, Honda Cub C70, Honda Steed 400VSE

Honda Shadow Slasher 400, Honda XR125L, Honda XR400RW

Honda SuperCub C90 single seater (vintage ride - 43km/l)

Honda NC700X (Smooth tourer around Indochina)

Honda CRF250L (Enduro - 30km/L)

The rubber handle grips are chrome on both ends and black rubber in the middle? $6??? Time to get mine replace, keeps slipping when throttling...

How time flies...

Actually the Aunty shop beside Ah Boy has lots of parts for our bike. Handlebar risers, fork extension and stuff.. I just got the normal signal lights, and a steel rod. Tap screw thread at the ends and welded a bracket in the middle.. something like the one in the pic below..

Manuals should come free with bikes!

Somehow the search function in this forum will get no result for Honda Steed 400 Service Manual.

For the benefit of all. Here is the VT600C Service Manual Link, also known as Honda Steed Service Manual. Click "Manuals" on the left and d/l the '97 English.

Courtesy of a fellow steed bro, Ghost_VLX who posted in a steed thread I googled out. It can be found on 1 of the pages in this thread.

No prob with the link bro, it's my honour too..

I too enjoy customizing my bikes, but den with all the limitations from LTA it really sucks(here we go again). I've got plans for my Steed, not as wild as your creations but hopefully it could look good yet still manage to go tru inspection. Cos having a kid now means I won't have too much time to meddle with my bike, reverting a modded bike back to stock takes too much time.. And also money should go to my kid first, any extra if any will then go to the bike.. So I guess it'll take a long time for this one..

Here's my first bike, Honda Rebel 125.. Used to call it Riot125 tho..

Next time, try to dress down and check out the price again. Obviously they are taking you as one of their carrot head.

If it is just welding, you could give Seng Kwang a visit at Ang Mo Kio. The people overthere can assist you with welding. :)

The screw tap is very cheap, cost me $6 at a shop.. learnt how to use those from my D&T lessons during sec school.. Most workshops has them, be nice and they will surely let you use.. As for welding, just go to any industrial park and approach anyone with a welding tool nicely.. Say that it's for a school project, a coffee or tea will usually be enough..

thanks for the recommendation Nights =)

i have to learn how to make use of other ppl's tools already. yes dnt learn before, have to use the machine one! i still can remember thread one and a half round then return three qtr rounds to cut it off. so fulfilling doing everything yrself.

btw do u guys know if im spraying the main chasis, is there a need for primer? im thinking of spraying one thin layer then sand then spray two good layers. savvy?

and i realise steed's seat is held on by the fender, if im going to strip off everything would i need to drill holes onto the chasis/subframe to hold the saddle? and if the desired saddle shape isn't the one we're using, does that mean rebuilding/pickup scrap saddle and build from there? then again, need to cater holes for screws. i see that vespa's saddle can kinda fit cruiser's style. perhaps we shall all take vespa's saddle! i dunno !

Posted

I guess the Vespa saddle is a good idea.. Need to mod the hinge a little tho, if not the seating position will be too high I think..

I'm spraying the rear swing arm tomorrow as well.. No plans for primer, just light sanding and spray..

Has any one try pumping octane 92 into their Steeds? I pump 92, and feel no diff in the power thou... in the end save $$$ in the diff in price between 92 and 95.

How time flies...

I don't know the min octane rating for our bike, but i did tried 92 and I dun hear or feel the engine knocking, but I'm no expert in this.. Maybe others with better knowledge can advise..

sprayed my rear swing arm today.. Since I already removed the rear wheel, I wash + lube the chain and cleaned up the drum brakes also.. My bike is so dirty now cos of my greasy hands.. DIY an IU bracket and relocated it beside the headlamp, hope it'll work in that position cos I really hate seeing that unit on my bars.. Bad news is that I lost the metal rod I intended to use for the front signal lights, have to get a new pc again.. That silly rod cost 8 bucks..

If you have a chance, check out your manual. It states. I've seen the sportster and TDM manual and both says 92 is fine. I guess cos both are twin engines. I expect inlines to run on higher octanes. But I'm no expert either, it's just stuff I've read and heard.

I saw the STP brand fuel jet power for sale in NTUC, Carrefour etc. ..something about jet fuel to mix into your tank. I think it is for cars, but the instruction just say mix into your tank. nv say car or bike but got ratio to mix it.

Anyone try before?
