thanks brothers....yea I know about ur goverment, but I think we can still do a lot of things without attracting ROV. It's a lot of freedom here....and I'm gonna miss that for sure. ...Will move to Singapore next month hehe

that's effectively the selling price only la, cos it's easy to DIY, nothing that difficult.

 

the chrome rack is rather universal, the pre-drilled holes i dun know if it'll fit your model or not, but can always drill one to fit if needed.

I am getting my Steed VLX next Monday. Dun really like the original V-shaped handle that curl towards e rider. Cos I stands at 1.77m n kind of cramp.

i wish to change to the riser type with a straight or near straight handle. I went to LAB today and ah boy managed to get a near straight handle. But he told me his shop run out of riser and he will order(u guy know when he said order,have to wait long long)

Any good recommendation places for me to change my handle?Or in 1st place can VLX handle be changed to riser type like VSE model?

In addition, the steed IU seem to be not working.Apart from LTA fixing a new IU costing 150, any other shops that fix IU and cost cheaper?

Lastly, the speedometer is not working n the seller told me that the speedometer cable had snapped.U bro know change one for how much?

Cos I bought this steed (COE till May 2012) kind of cheap(1K),so i never bother to let the seller tie up the loose end. The outlook condition 7.5/10 and engine 8/10.

Suppose yrs is the the earlier edition VLX model?(Anyone earlier than mine? )

Hmm, if Im not wrong, the risers frm VSE can be fitted onto the triple fork clamp, BUT bear in mind the diameter of yr newly aquired handlebar, the riser is holding 1" bars.

 

If you dont mind to pay for works done, try to get yr barang barangs & repair by yr trusted shop(IMO, I'll say Planet), i.e. ordering of whole handling set, fixing of IU(can get 2nd hand instead), replacing the speedometer cable, etc.

The cable shld be less than $20.

usually when i buy a bike, i send in for full servicing, like change oil, plugs, gasket, tuning, fork oil.

 

basically steed is a very easy bike to maintain. if yr v twin engine not good, u can properably hear it when u blow yr throttle hard.

 

meanwhile, for yr handle bar, i suggest u get a long straight handle bar if u r using a tall riser. (try get from auntie if u cant wait) cos if short handle, when u travell at 100km/h,, the vibration is gonna kill u. Or u can try putting some heavy weight.

 

Btw, u can lower yr suspension or cutting it so the bike look nice.

 

N ensure yr fan n cooler working, a lot of pple dun know if their fan spoil or not.

Hi all, I', new to this forum, and has read this thread with great interest. I bought a Honda Steed 400 VLX last week, and I'm looking to beef it up a little.

 

Generally the engine runs very well, and the bike is in good shape. It's from '93, i believe.

 

My mechanic tells me, that there are very few aftermarket parts that fits the Steed 400. Lots for the 600, but not for this one. So... I'm getting quite confused, when I read in this thread, that apart from cylinder size, the Steed 400 and 600 VLX should be the same. Can anybody confirm this, also from "real life experience"? I've run though hundreds of websites trying to get the info I need.

 

1. How much is the 400 and 600 VLX models compatible? Which parts can generally be used for the other with not too many problems?

 

2. Does any have any experience with and/or knowledge of aftermarket parts for the 400 VLX? I'm interested in both aftermarket performance/engine parts and "cosmetic" parts. For example, I'd like a new exhaust and a bigger tank.

 

I can't be the only one struggling with this, so if anyone is having some input to this, I'd be willing to put the information together for future reference.
