Hi All,

just want to ask you guys...i see alot of S4 can clock 300+ km in mileage.

Does it include reserve tank?

I riding s4 spec 3, 4 year old bike and pump shell 95/98 and my gauge start to hit reserve tank i only clock about 250 - 270. My avg transport every week is 3km to work and 3km home mon - fri. then weekends maybe clock about 20 km.

I'ssit because you guys long distance everyday. So you get better mileage. Also I not using fully synthetic engine oil....does this play a part?

Pls share.

Hi silver09,

Im riding spec3 like yrs.. I used to face prob like yrs b4.. even thou only 1.5yrs bike. Once i reach 270km i hit reserve already (even thou rarely open vtec). Then after advice given from fellow S4 riders, i checked my tyre pressure & chain slack regularly. Lube chain faithfully (cos dun hav scot oiler :sian: ) then improvement comes.. now able to hit 330km b4 reserve.. imo i dun tink its the travelling distance u do daily.. as for Engine Oil i guess as long as u dont use EO more then its recommended lifespan shld be ok bah (i know of bikers who use semi EO n change every 2000-3000km...

hmnn before assuming yr bike have internal probs.. wondering hav u check on the tyre pressure/chain areas yet. Hope it helps..

adjust the slack. if you nt sure how to do it ask you mech to do it for you. watch how they do it to gain a level of experience

40 rear sounds abit too much....in sg air inside tyre expands due to our hot climate.

And remember to check ur brakes too.. Rear one especially. Make sure its not jammed. That was the culprit for me. Mine was 240km before reserve. But afetr servicing, its 320km.

Squat behind ur bike with your right knee below ur exhaust.

Lift up the bike slightly with ur right knee, and try to spin the wheel.

Hope it helps....

valve clearance and tuning shld do the job

Hi can elaborate what is valve clearence and how much it costs?

Also how much would tuning costs?

Sorry newbie rider.....

My culprit was the fork. Fork oil was leaking. Caused my Spec II to increase petrol consumption by a whooping 30%. After servicing, consumption became normal again @ 22km/L

I believe your workplace is near and you don't go to the highway often?

Cuz, if your travel in a 'start-stop' motion (i.e. traffic lights and not in a smooth, constant speed), chances are your bike will have poorer milage.

Do a general check such as your tire pressure, air filter, brakes, plugs, chain slack, fork, etc before you proceed and meddle with your engine and it's internal parts... The way you ride also contributes to the mileage..

Correct...I only hit highways on weekends. But 50Km difference in mileage i feel is alot...

In terms of km/L, what's your mileage? Cuz the gauge is not that accurate especially when you're riding. Gauge is better read when your bike is stationary and is upright.

If your mileage is sbout 20-23km/L then it should be about avg.

The fuel gauge not accurate, cannot trust the gauge. Like for my bike it hit the reserve point when i ride until about 260++.

Wat i do is i turn the fuel cork to on and continue travelling until the bike cannot move then i see the mileage reading (about 300++)... that is the most accurate reading. After that then i turn the fuel cork to reverse and then ride to refuel the tank...

Hope it helps!

Can you elaborate what is fuel cork......and how do I turn it on.......:o

S4 got no fuel cork/tap...

everyone have a different riding style... my spec1 last time 180km touch reserve...

are you throttle happy? although you might not open your VTEC, do you like to squzze alot on your throttle???

comparing shorter distance to work with longer distance, the one who travel shorter distane to work will experience slightly higher in fc. this is due to more warming up cycles compared to longer distance to work.

unless TS dun have the habit of warming up the engine b4 move off then this theory dun apply to him.

wa... vtec all the way from carpark til reach work huh?

mine also spec1. when i first got it 1+ month ago, my consumption was like 18km/L.

then realised, my rear wheel bearings not good, tire too deflated, front fork oil dried up.... and also, engine rubber gasket and carberuator spoilt thus leaking EO and petrol.....

though i fixed the engine and carb stuffs only today, my FC improved after the fork, tire, n bearings are fixed.... became around 22kmh.. but i did add a VS during these period..

now c if the engine, carb fixed liao, with new clutch plates will help improve further anot..

oh yah. my riding pattern.. usually around 5-6k rpm, once a while on vtec... and every few days, go around 140-150 after sending my gf home..

but i tink longer distance have better mileage leh

cos i go sch 3km only 280km b4 reserve and now i go camp 25km can reach 375 b4 reserve

for me, my spec 3 used to clock less than 260km till hit reserve. do note it was reg in OCT 2007. so it is defects free

my improvements made.

lube chain and and make sure tyres are good. from i use 245psi and rear is 285psi. checked every 2 top ups.

use good EO, i use maxima extra and change oil filter with each EO change.

revtec and broquet. i have these 2 lah.. but got improvement is up to individual's opinion

as much as possible, i try to travel just before vtec. got my last 2km before pump i usually wack, by then i have just past 2nd link. hehee..

now hitting 320km when the reserve light shows up.

bros, i m riding spec 1. i jz pumped today. got the fc of 24.15KM/L. It is good considering the fact that everytime i go to work or go home, i do 100km/h and occasionally 120KM/h on expressways. my traveling pattern is small roads (Speed Limit: 50KM/H) -> expressway (Speed Limit: 90KM/H) -> small roads (Speed Limit: 70KM/H) -> expressways (Speed Limit: 90KM/H) -> small roads (Speed Limit: 50 or 60, nt sure) -> workplace. I have gaslogger program in my phone.

What i did b4 i hit the above-mentioned speeds is accelerate slowly and always go easy on the throttle but once the bike gain momentum, jz a slight twist on the throttle, i could go to 120KM/h in short time. When in the roads full of traffic lights, i accelerated smoothly.

another factor is MAYBE, just maybe, the way i pumped the petrol into my tank. It took me longer than usual as I pumped slowly as i read that the slower u pump, the more petrol u will get instead of air. so go easy on the pump nozzle.

woah. this sounds good. im gonna try.. i got very bad pickup habit.... when driving, heavy foot to take off.. and heavy wrist when i ride.. :giddy:

though i maintain my top speed about same as yours, and travel mainly highway, only 22km/L best...
