I have advised some of the people here on better starting before. It's in the first dunno how many pages of this thread. If you search for my posts under this topic, you should be able to find. But for your benefit,

 

Before you start your enigne, switch off your lighting systems all the way. Turn on your choke, twist your throttle all the way and release. Then wait for about 5 seconds, start your engine.

 

Once engine started, take note of your RPM (tachometer). You should see the tach rise rapidly to about 3K. If you do notice a rise beyond 2K, you can shut off the choke. Once you turn off the choke, monitor the tacho again. Does the RPM fall below 1.5K or the engine sounds like it's going to die again ? If it does, switch on your choke again for a few seconds before shutting it off. Once you shut off, do the monitoring again, until you dun have to use the choke.

 

You are not done yet. TYou still need to let the engine warm up. The above is the prelude. While you wait for the engine to warm, up, it's a good time to check your bike. Look around (did somebody plant a bomb on your vehicle ?), press your tyres, adjust your mirror, inspect the chain (is it very dry), test your signals and horn, put on your windbreaker or whatever. When you are done, the engine should be sufficiently warmed up. At this point, note your idle engine RPM. Is it around 1.5 ~ 1.25K ? If yours is less, your idle speed may be too low and you might need to increase the RPM. Next, take a look at your temperature gauge. Note the temperature level. When your engine is fully warmed up, that should be temperature range. This is for your reference the next time you start your engine.

 

If your ilde RPM is what I have mentioned, you should be ready to go. Switch on your headlights at this point. Dun leave it on when you are doing the starting procedures. The headlights sap a considerable amount of power your generator can produce. You'd be better off saving the juices for the spark plugs instead of your headlights when starting.

 

There are other points to note too when you have low idle RPM. But assuming there's nothing else wrong with your bike, it should only be your idling RPM setting. You go try and see if these will solve your problem.

what u guys use to polish the tank huh ? my fren say can use autosol for the whole of the bike, including the disc brake and rims area ..

i tried on the idling already, but same thing even if i tune it up to more than 1.5 but last time i first get the bike no such thing one ley..looks like i have to bring it to motor diam check liao.. the feeling of every morning stopping on junctions and somemore need to rev rev and the best part every other motorist looks at you like a p-plate rookie trying to loot with them :weep: ok another enquire here, its been one mth liao and my 2t still alot only use like half only.. i bery scared wait piston jam. anyone knows how to tune 2t intake?? :confused:

pls go fix it RITE AWAY!~! me just kanna piston seizure.... :weep: :weep: 2t intake too little... changed the piston for 250...heng my block was saved by mechanic..if block oso change then i sure :faint: :faint:

Wah Magic,

when you say this, I hope you haven't top up your 2T yet. The green colour liquid bottle is your coolant, not your 2T hor. Did you pour anything inside yet ? If yes, you have to do flushing liao ler.

 

The 2T bottle is on the opposite side. There are only 2 bottles under the seat. So if it's not the green one, you should know which bottle I am talking about. When you see the level, think you have to push the bike upright. Because that's the true level, which is even lower than when you see with the bike leaning on it's side stand.

If you are worried about no 2T and piston jamming, try this.

 

Find one day in the morning, when you start your engine for the first time for the day. Start normally. Watch your exhaust. Do you see white smoke coming out ? If no smoke, give a gentle twist on your throttle. You should see white smoke.

 

Usually, when you first start your bike for the first time, the engine is cold, and the 2T won't be burnt off completely. That's why you see white smoke (err ... sorry, but this is my reasoning only). After your engine gets sufficiently warm, you won't get o see the white smoke anymore. If you do, on probably reason is that you have too much 2T output on your setting.

 

Too much 2T is not good for the environment, so I never liked it that way. If you dun see any white smoke at all, then you will have to be careful, and get your bike checked by a mechanic.

 

Another question is, how long has it been since you topped up 2T ? Was it like 2 months or more ? On average, I need to top up half a bottle every half-month. In effect, the consumption is about 1 bottle per month. Does your consumption rate appear to stray very far from this reference ? If your answer is yes, it'll be imperative that you send your vehicle in for a checkup.

 

Now, you must bear in mind that I am not a mechanic. These are based on my experience. If suppose you dun find any of the above symptoms, or you dispute any of the above that I have mentioned, and you are still worried about your 2T system, then it'll be best to spend some money and ask for help from your mech. Best to be safe than sorry. Piston jam is no joke when you are travelling with speed (although I have never experienced any jam before in the history of my KRR ownership, yet). So take heed.

is there a need to warm up the bike often if i ride less often, going to ride only like 3-4 days a wk only for a short distance too

Wait ah ... got blue bottle meh ?

I dunno ... bcos my KRR is one of those quite old one ...

you mean now the bottle got colour code liao ah ?

 

It's recommended that you run your engine daily if you do not ride often.

If you leave your bike alone for sometime without running the engine, in my opinion, your internal engine parts will rust or oxidise or what ever. Bcause the oil simply drain off to a low point when the engine is not run. Also, the other reason is, if you dun start your engine regularly, it'll become very hard to start.

 

For polish part, I wouldn't recommend autosol personally. Now, I might be wrong, but I am quite sure autosol is the abrasive type of polishing agent. It has been quite some time since I last seen autosol. Is it in a tube form, like toothpaste ? If it is, the paste contains some abrasive element from what i know. I have not tried it on bike so I wouldn't know. You decide for yourself whether you want to try or not. But generally, I think the commercial polishing solution should be ok. I gave up washing and polishing my bike after some incidents. Sad story.

 

Errr ... I must say again I am not mechanic. I just offering/sharing advice to those who need it. Certain info I provided may not even be correct for all you know. Was a newbie once, and I know what it feels like when you needed information and not getting it. Good luck !
