Anyone purchase this bike mount before for the nuvi 550?

Any reviews?

You want my honest opinion ? That mount is hopeless.

It will never survive an off-road trip. Planning to get that for your coming Endau Rompin trip ?

Any reviews?

IMHO

The original sucks big time. It's meant for car, mine got dismounted when I hit a bump on the road lucky I had a fishing line to secure to prevent it from flying off. Best and tested even on off road conditions will be RAM mount. There's a guy selling the RAM mount in Singapore you can look for him, price is reasonable, no hassle and best of all ready stock.

You can compare the mount of the original and RAM mount:

I am using MFM maps on my Garmin XT (mobile).

When i am doing routing, how come it seems like forever? More often than not, i cancel the activity while it is calculating the route.

Any reason why?

For devices with low processing power, try using the MFM-lite version.

:)

HTC THD is considered low processing power? How fast are the processors on standalone GPS machines?

Im not sure when it comes to this.

Will check out MFM-lite.

Thanks Demon.

Your HTC processor is multi-tasking, and it has to run another layer of software for map reading.

No matter how powerful is the processor in your HTC, it is unlikely that it can process the map better than a Garmin GPS which is a dedicated device, even though it may have a slower processor.

Loved to.

But only after the 15th. I'm over my shopping budget for these 2 weeks. :)

I dun mind keeping the small size as a spare but really need a medium size for longer trips to keep my PDA charged.

Let's keep in touch and see if we can order together online after the 15th, ok?

Red and White funnels then that's definitely Smoke Stacks from Senoko Power Station. Just across is Perma Jaya, there are also some seafood joints there

N1.48592 E103.81653

I haven't been there before, give some feedback after your visit.

:)

I went there recently. Food is not bad, but its Malay style, so don't bother ordering 'Salted egg crabs' or cereal prawns.

Anyone knows of any chinese seafood restraunts in that area?

The biking type battery does not last that long. Zumo battery only last you 3 hours while the nuvi 550 last 5 hours. If you want good battery life go for the 60csx battery can last 18hrs on use. That's my personal experience on the gps.

just thinking aloud...do you need to have the gps switched on all the time while riding? If not, the 5-hr battery life is more then sufficient for a day's ride, just checking the location now and then.

besides the garmin brand, are there other recommended brands?

If not, the 5-hr battery life is more then sufficient for a day's ride, just checking the location now and then.

Everytime you turn on the GPS, especially if you have moved far away from the position when it was turned OFF, it will take a few minutes to acquire the first fix, some older GPS may take longer.

Usually you want the GPS to be ON all the time because it can provide you with both visual and audio navigation instructions to your destination. You may also want to log your route which some GPS are capable of, so that you can upload your route to your PC for analysis after the trip.

With GPS, and digital camera, you can now photo tag ie, the photo can be automatically synchronize to the exact location at which it was taken.

When the specs state 5 hrs, take it with a big pinch of salt. When you turn on the back light, the endurance will be reduced. Those with built-in internal battery, as the battery ages, the endurance will also be reduced.

If you want the longest lasting mapping GPS, take the eTrex Legend CSx or Vista CSx.

i have the zumo 550 and i like it very much. i don't think it has a file reader tho.

battery life on the road is a non-issue as it's powered by my vehicle/bike batt.

Not really true because Garmin Zumo has that feature.

if so, how do you guys hear the instructions?

Besides voice instructions, there are also "turning arrows", "distance' instructions" pop up "warning" windows on the display during navigation mode.

The voice instructions can get very irritating because it will warn you that you are exceeding the speed limits, and it can be as frequent as every 30s. Even in the car, often i mute it.
