I got a strange problem yesterday. I was on the way to work, it was raining heavily.

My bike temperature was 98C on the move and topped at 102C when I reached office. However it was normal again during my travel back from work, temp was around 77-80C (cool wind and no rain).

This morning was also ok.

I never encounter this problem before. What do you guys think? Any idea what the cause might be?

making a wild guess here. u mentioned it was raining heavily. in the cold, ur bike will run leaner due to higher saturation of oxygen molecules in cold air as compared to hot air maybe thats why ur temp go up coz engine is running hotter. If u rmb ideal gas law is PV=nRT. So P,V,R is constant, when T decrease ur "n" will increase(n being the no of moles of gas in this case oxygen).

But again im just guessing. May just be a mechanical fault somewhere. So let the gurus answer this.

No worries mate. He definitely knew I beat him.. I admire his courage though. Hahaha. Anyway, i 'won' because of a few helpful stuff on my bike. My bike quite weak actually. This must be a lousy TZM. They're fast bikes, u cant catch them at higher speeds. Hehe.

Ride safe.

Haha you sure brightened up my week subzero! I think the dryer weathers are arriving, rain stopped for a good 16hours on my side, dry roads!

When the winds resist my impetus and sights become passing shadows. Every other sound is voided, all but the undeniable roar of my engine.

My physical vision recepts naught, but my mind is tranquil.

I see my inner soul.

Went to 37 motoring to fix my speedo sensor. Was really damn shock when I see so many aprilia bikes there. And I tot only one or 2 bike will be there. Haha!

Yea even hkl was reporting a great increase in aprilia visits apparently he can remember all the aprilians who went there

Maybe mesaboogie is right! but im really not sure la...

Anyways I had the same problem this morning! Got a shock when i saw my temperature, it was 90 plus, then increased to hundred. When i reached sch, i opened up my tank, and figured i needed to top up coolant anyhow, and so i went to the workshop asap. Now its back to normal. Did you check yours by any chance?

Just want to share an amusing incident that happened to me yesterday. Was heading home from queenstown about 11pm last night. Was making a right turn at the huge junction just after Queenstown MRT to Farrer road. As i was making the right turn, i saw a black bike taking the left filter to the same road. When i completed the turn, this bike, a TZM was just in front of me.So i was riding normally and accelerated abit. Out of nowhere, the TZM rider, turned around, saw me, and went into a full MOTOGP crouch on his bike and accelerated like it was a race! OMG, the 2T smoke that came out from his exhaust was impressive! But sadly, what was NOT impressive was the acceleration of his bike.

I watched him twist his throttle so hard, yet the bike was so slow. Bear in mind, it was raining, not that heavy, but not that light. I thought what the hell, let's give him a show. I didnt even drop gear, just accelerated and caught up. As i passed him, i slowed down to pass him in a manner i can see him. OMG! He was still in his MOTOGP crouch, hiding behind his pathetic windscreen, if it offered protection from the rain. It was one of the rare days i wore a half face helmet. I turned to look at him and laugh at him. Sadly, he didnt see my huge grin. Because he was fully concentrating on the race. We were barely at 100.

Then he seemed to tug his body in tighter, and twist that ever useless throttle. I looked ahead, saw a underpass coming. A smile came to my face again. Yes, some dry ground. I just looked straight, and blasted past this funny rider. Goodbye Gracie. As soon as i exited the underpass i slowed down. Wet road ahead, i was like at 140.. After eons, the TZM passed me. Again in his full motogp crouch. I couldnt stop laughing. I just rode slowly. We both had to stop at the next traffic light. I filtered my way to the front and looked at him and gave a hug grin. Indian chap, skinny, looked like malaysian, but bike was SG plate. He gave a maniacal smile. Green light. MotoGP crouch, and launch for this crazy and slow TZM. I jus rode slowly. I did enough to show Aprilia won yesterday.

Please ride safely in the wet weather guys.

Vik, that was SWEET.

You really cracked me up.

Keep smoking the competition, but keep your rubber side down. Hope to catch up with you soon. It's been too long. We shld have supper at Chung's place. I ate there last month. Great food!

This is probably a mechanical fault somewhere. If you look at your temperature while riding in rain or colder weather, it's usually lower than normal. The older model Aprilia have a numerical readout. Normal riding in day is about 68 to 74. Idling for long at traffic lights might hit 78. Night is much lower..

Even the polini while riding in daytime is about 74 to 78. Idling might hit up to 90plus but temperature drops back quickly when you start moving.

I suspect this case has something wrong with the thermostat sensor. Either that or almost no coolant circulating in the hoses. But if it went back to normal, most probably thermostat sensor.

Thanks Sub Zero, I got my brakes hosed over with the pressurised air gun a couple days back. Doesn't squeak anymore.

NO worries. Do it periodically. Dust and dirt do accumulate over time.

I think Lacrimosae has encountered this before. Does the problem still persist? Since you're riding an older model bike, it could be the shifter forks and the gears maybe be worn out. Brand new gearbox is about 2Kplus. 2nd hand is about 300plus atleast.

Mr L did a full overhaul(scheduled) after this problem and replaced the gearbox if i'm not wrong.

New bike model bike, rare if it has such a problem. Unless it's been ridden really really hard.

Saw your bike outside 37 motoring last week. Interesting paintwork.

well, at 1st it was juz a rattling noise whenever i shifted gears down from 2nd to 1st, it'd get stuck at N. i nv had probs going up n even tis was random so i did'nt really bother abt it until tis incident... gosh, i hope my gears r ok... dun have tt kinda cash to spare man...

had that problem too. mine rattles from 2 kicking down to one. i think the issue for me is that i might be kicking the gear down too lightly, meaning not fully engaging the gear one. thus the lever is caught between neutral and gear 1 in which the rattling sounds occur. my solution? try depressing harder? thats what i did and the rattling doesnt occur. just my 2 cents won from CNY gambling's worth.

Happy new year Feelicks!

Hope you get enough ang pow to cover your cost of repairs!

I've had this problem before due to the age of my bike. Been riding it hard and it was only an eventuality that the gear shift forks wore out. The gearbox was also broken, bearings were crushed, gears broken, etc.

Eventually I did change the shifter forks and the gearbox, $700 and $600 respectively.

Yes, shortly after, I purchased another engine and replaced the entire engine completely. The troublesome part was the red tape having to get LTA to approve of the engine swap.

Eventually that was sorted too.

Do try to shift gears decisively. Kick up or down hard to ensure the gear selector is in proper position before you allow the clutch to engage and apply your throttle, otherwise the gear may slip.
