Can i check with you guys:

What is the speed range for each gear?

Because when at Gear 6 and that approving traffic light, i slow down and i notice is 40+ km/h. I dunno to kick to Gear 3 or 4 to pick up... Always have to test each gear to find out...

and

What RPM do u change from gear to gear?

For me that mileage is

and

Example: When you are at Gear 6, speed 70km/h and you know you will stop completely at the traffic light... Do you:

1> Release throttle, clutch in, apply brake, stopped, tap down gear.

2> Release throttle, apply brake, clutch in before stopping, tap down gear.

3> Release throttle, engine brake of Gear 6, then tap down for engine brake of Gear 5..etc until complete stop

Why is ask this, is because i always notice a lot different fellow riders style of stopping. Also my previous ride's chain always loosen, dunno if it is my style of gear changing is wrong. Btw, i always use 1> Release throttle, clutch in, apply brake, stopped, tap down gear

dun care the range of speed for each gear... School teach to use engine brake for a purpose. every time u approach the red light, use braking and engine brake to slow your bike down...

down gear by gear. once u get the hang of it, u will know each gear operates at which speed. it's also better when approaching a traffic light that is turning green... down gear by gear then when the light turns green, u just take off...

as for the braking park i personally think always keeping ur right foot on the brakes when coming to a stop, is still the safest(only left foot down). so it means slowly down gear and engine brake until u hit gear 1... then left foot down. Why? --> because if u got the habit of using back brakes, u will know it's much more effective when handling slow speed...

haha atom power.nice.per bottle $27 only.

i am using atom power previously but its seems like use already = nv use. correct me if i am wrong. when putting the oil into the oil tank the millage is the same as nv put. i nv feel any extra power from it.. when u open up the cap of atom power the smell is exactly the same as petrol.for me after using it, its seems like spending more money for that little amount of petrol. furthermore when i buy they request mi to buy 2 bottle at 1 shot its like 50++ as a package. they doesnt sell bottles seperately.

nv try ows before, only know maybe too good eo will not be suitable for small cc bike.

cause last time on cbr150, forgot what brand was it, that was a better eo, but performance end up worse. was told maybe cos its better n its more fine, so dont really suit the bike.

my old bike cbr150 uses maxima, sames goes for my current r6. cbr150 used to test a few different brand of eo, but still feel maxima is not bad. castrol was not available in that bike shop if not i might take that too.

Ok, but by dropping gear by gear for the engine braking... Will it "harm" the engine in the long run? As i try to imagine that...

I agreed that school teach engine braking, but i thought only apply on slope? :cheeky:

So am i correct to say that there is no correct way but is a matter of safety type?

engine brake on slope? which part?

some ppl apply engine brake more so they dun have to change brake pads

as often as u use lesser.

sch teach because its another form of braking which can be quite useful.

and ive tried using ows eo.

quite smooth. just feel that it could be smoother.

IMO i dun tink its worth the $ im paying for it.

sorry to butt in, actually i also concerned about the engine braking..cuz i use it alot alot

a bbdc instructor was the one who taught me the technique..he said start braking earlier..and try not to down gear too fast till gear 1 end up high rev..

i think one advantage is that in the event of emergency, still got extra braking power in the form of normal front/rear brakes..

any experienced bikers care to share more? :)

sh3rman how's ur injuries? get well soon! :p

engine brake works by utilising the vaccuum created when the air mixture in the chambers is expelled. so in short, you brake and shift down, the vacuum in the engine slows the revs and speed. thats a very very brief explanation. check wiki for more answer.

engine braking for 4 strokes i have heard, is not harmful at all. in fact, its beneficial as you don't rely on brake pads all the time.

as for 2 strokes, some forumers have mentioned that it is bad for the engine at certain conditions, forgot which.

bottomline, engine braking is good. let the engine do the work.

btw, r15 uses h4 headlights.

to the guy asking about broquet, i don't but plan to use when i get my bike soon. i believe there are forumers who used the product and gave it good reviews. broquet is from UK btw.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

from what i know, engine brake doesn't harm the engine... it only wear ur clutch faster... so either u wan brake pads wear faster or clutch. both also need to wear lah. both also need to change regardless which is faster...

as for me, i do down gear when reaching the red light. brake, then down gear and slowly release clutch(repeat till gear 3 like that. by that time going to stop so clutch in and down all the way to 1)... once u get the hang of it, u will know how to match the gears to the speed.

when pro liao, u will realise u never really use engine brake, but just down shifting the gears to match ur slower speed... :thumb:

im fine.. nt going to be riding for awhile.

engine braking is good lah.. if can use engine brake use lor.

but dun drop gear too quickly.

later too quickly, revs too high u lock the rear.

dun have to replace brake pads as often.

The part when you have to go down the slope.

Hmm, ok.. more practice makes perfect.

Argh, running in period is so tough. Keep getting beams from taxi and even school bus. I am already in last lane yet still want to bully.

Any experience to share?

dun bother. if REALLY necessary,

filter to shoulder and let them overtake.

otherwise if ure in the extreme left lane and dun wan give way,

just keep left lor.

actually if u read the manual properly, they write there avoid exceeding 5K rpm for a prolong period of time... which means it's still ok to exceed. just dun let ur rpm stay above 5k for a long time... pick up till u are safe, then fall back, it's still ok.

there is no hard and fast rule to running in.

u can do it as the manual says.

u can do it gentler den the manual says.

and of course the option of a hard run in.

was purely replying to the fact he was being

tailgated on the extreme left lane.

of course if he chooses, he can pick up den drop back.

which again could mean the vehicle may catch up to him again.

den it has to happen again. easier for him to just let the vehicle overtake

and continue to ride comfortably at his own speed.:thumb:
