lifespan for the rectifiers vary......somtimes they last a very long time but somtimes it could last just for a few months or so.........when this happens it might be due to the rectifier but it could also due to your electrical issue that cause the rectifier to blow............. its difficult to tell actually how long can the rectifier last.....

ic.. So the only way to find out is when the rectifier actually fails on.. I always have this phobia when changing to a new batt & the mech wud say theres a problem with ur rectifier or coil.. Haha

If you have installed a voltmeter, you can actually monitor the charging. If you notice the voltage is getting lower and lower, prehaps it time for you to go to the bikeshop for a check. As for the mech, it really depends on your trust in him. Like I trust my bikeshop to give me their honest opinion.

yes true with the voltmeter it helps you to monitor............ but there are times when they just trip without u knowing it.....the rectifier/ regulator works in 2 ways,

1) to regulate your voltage

2) to convert energy and charge the batt.

Symptoms from our voltmeter can only tell that the voltage regulator working good or not......

but when the 2nd part trips, ur batt could be discharging out power when u parked your bike.....next morning batt flat :(

Its very difficult to really prevent these things from happening.....as even if we change the rectifier for preventive measures, it could be a faulty one and that will lead to ur batt to fall flat, even worse when your voltage could not regulate then it will burn ur coils or even boil ur batt.

why ah, change batt must worry? will improper way of changing affect the rectifier?

all along i DIY when changing batt.. something i need to be cautious about?

or maybe bec i got the habit of changing batt once a year and this is healthy for the recifier??

a friend advice me to replace batt once a year, since the its only about $70,

its a small price to pay compared to the hassle you will have to go thru if your batt fail on u when on tour.

Thanks bro for the heads up.......will reconsider on doing the relocation project. Any info if he is using the OEM rectifier or an aftermarket one?

Was poking around Hayabusa.org today and managed to dig out the thread regarding the burnt rectifier at the tail area, link. Some said they have no issue, some said it might be the faulty rectifier batch. Whatever it is, I think it is safe to put at the original spot. If you want the area to be cooler, you can consider removing the catalyser or maybe change to a straight through header.

No, no, its only dat when mechanic says battery died due to coil or rectifier wld most probably mean apart from replacing the battery there is also either the coil (which probably cost another few hundreds) or the rectifier (also another bomb) and these items can add up to a considerable amount(probably in the region of $700 to $800 + sigh...).

Take care.

You may want to get a full system now since it may be cheaper..

Assume your header gone, guess exhaust oso maybe damage too.

just to share with you guyz on the new lithium battery that I have installed.

So far cranking was much better, getting alomost constant voltage.......at first I nvr tot that it would make a difference since our bikes are already on the heavy side........but the lost of weight can be felt, but I still think that changingto carbon fiber rims would be the best weight saving mod. ballistic upgrade.gif
