is it worth to buy brand new bike ?

If the question is Worth or not..I'd say NOT WORTH in terms of $$$. I used to buy new bike...until one day where my friend bought a second hand one which is the exact same model as mine after 2 years. He is paying only half of what I paid. The feel good factor of a new bike will probably lasts for 1-3months. After which I dont feel any different. Accident more heartpain cos its brand new. haha..

 

In general, the repairs if it occurs should not cost you a bomb unless its an Continental bike like BMW (I owned before) or the Dukes.

 

I have been riding 2nd hand bikes since and so far so good.

I do agree with Gerald but I think the topic is more and more leaning towards Used Bikes. Can almost change to "How lucky/unlucky are you when you get ur 2nd Hand bike" LOL.. that would be more constructive.

If u wan to go for a 2nd hand bike u really need to check the condition of the bike.. Mileage, age of the bike, signs of accidents etc...

yamaha fino.. one reason y i had to buy it brand new is becos i wanted to carry over my no plate.. if i were to put my no plate on a 2nd hand bike it wld cost me $1.3k

I change 5 bikes in my 8 year or riding.

 

In general summary:

 

I only buy the bike I like.

IF got no problem I won't sell (Unless I want to change diff bikes or liking change)

If got to much problems, I comfirm sell.

 

This is the guidelines.

 

Even the most lousiest bike. First year usually don't give problems. Even have, usually cover by warranty.

 

I own 1 secondhand bike so far. cost 2.5K. Buy 4.5K of parts and never even get to ride it. Then sell to a close friend for 1.6K cos he is a DIY person and he can fix it. BUt still paiseh lah. Sold him a bike with so much problems.

 

Ask me to buy a secondhand bike, I'll rather walk.

 

The only exception is CG 125. It's cheap to buy. cheap to do a complete refurbish.

 

End of the day depends on ur directive.

 

If your target is class 2 bike from start. Buying secondhand class 2B is nothing wrong.

IF your target and style is any bike u like at that pint of time and will ride nothing unless is the bike u ride, then brand new is the way to go.

 

Everyone have a different needs and wants. So there's no ride and wrong.

 

Worth it or not is relative and subjective.

one benefit of riding a used bike is lesser stress, especially if u tour on it.

-u'll be less likely to get upset if your bike get bumped and scratched at woodlands jam.

-u can sleep better when staying at a hotel.

-u'll feel happier when u corner at some marvelous roads.

-u wont feel uncomfortable with lower-grade fuel or engine oil from a roadside shop which u have to make do with sometimes when there's no choices.

 

the key is of cos, getting a used bike in reasonably good condition; patience and luck play a big role here.

 

be frugal, forget those funky accessories but spend on stuff that makes yourself confident of the bike's reliability; if u think your 11 yr old used bike can take u to thailand and back, then yes it WILL.

 

new bikes tend to be flashier and attracts attention; attention which u like when u'r in a big group is what u don't want when u tour alone.

As said by the rest, it is worth to the riders who buys it. To some its not but to others it's impt. As for me, I have ridden 4 bikes and all of them are second hand. Luck really plays a part when getting second hand bikes. I've been lucky so far as the worst bike i got was the x1 cub kia i bought. The bike i'm riding now is also full of probs but those are wear and tear so no choice.. But if you really love it and give it some care, it will become a really great bike like the super four i'm riding now. 2 years already and it's a super great bike..

 

But of cuz, as a student now only can afford 2nd hand, when i go out and work, confrim get first hand and ride long long. 2nd hand bikes will nv give you the wow it's new feeling.. But of cuz, you will not feel heart pain if somethings happens to your bike like dropping.. lolz
