hi all, i'm quite new to this forum. i've owned a super 4 for the past yr but ride less than once a week as i have other transport. i now intend to get a class 2 bike mainly for touring as my super isn't very fun for n-s highway speeds & distances.

my question is, which class 2 bike would suit me the best in this order of priority:

1. fun (workhorses are out)

2. good resale value (i suppose it must be 2nd hand & a fairly common bike)

3. pillion comfort (race bikes are out)

i'm very open to your opinions, and don't have any fixed budget as long as i can (possibly) sell the bike after 1 yr for not much less than what i paid for it - my 5th-hand super 4 is actually being sold for more than what i've spent on it.

what immediately comes to mind are: fazer 1, v strom, africa twin (swap out seat), stx13, fjr, blackbird, busa, bmw gs

sadly my ride not common, but I would say its fun with good torque and it comes with wide seat thick foam. Tried on NSHW, personal point of view is good.

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

imho, fun depends on what kind of ride u like. I've tried a few before I know which is better for me.

For some, fun, means dual adventure. gungho can go trail, and offroad, yet able to travel at 180 at highway. in this case, African twin and V-Strom. V-Strom being newer though.

If u want, comfortable riding at high speed. super smooth with plenty of luggage space and comfort for 2-up. GTR, FJR are good for u..

if want, power and exhilaration. blackbird, hayabusa, zx14, bmw k1300s...

for me, i wanted power and shiokness of sportsbike. so i got the blackbird. firstly, cos budget lower, secondly, among the 4 i mentioned, it has the best pillion comfort...

and to test pillion comfort, bring your pillion with u during bike shopping, or meet up with each riding group. most of them, i believe are friendly enough to let u sit on their bike... test riding is a different topic though..

u still have one year to choose. so, test it all!

trail offroad? i think its cheaper to drop a ktm 200 on its side than a vstrom :cheeky:. better to buy a bike specialized in touring since you are interested in it and another bike or change bike if your interests ever change.

wow thanks everyone for your replies - i've actually got my class 2 license alr but still undecided on a bike. i went around looking @ new bikes initially, but figured that i'd lose at least 20% of the value even with low mileage after a few months.

ktm 990 & multistrada really tempt me, but they're not that common in sg so might not be easy to sell. so far fazer seems to be a really good choice since it's quite a popular bike in sg

i rode an AT prior to my fazer and i do admit its a fun bike to ride.. Only dat i cant keep up wit my touring kakis :cheeky:

imho its best to get an AT frm a pvt owner as those in shops r usually overpriced wit minimal accs, i hunted mine for almost half a yr.. The AT community is a rather small n knitted whr almst everyone wld noe whos the last owner of the bike thus u can easily gt 2nd opinions of the bike..

Riding an AT wasnt a regret bt an experience..

Well im loving my fazer nw

thanks for the info, everyone. yeah i'm not in a hurry to buy AT since i don't ride very often and usually drive instead. i'll just take my time to look ard.

i test rode a few vara & will admit its a good bike - comfortable, enough grunt - but AT holds its value a lot better. i also tried out fz1 - another bike w fantastic resale value, but it's not too comfortable for pillioning. anyway, do pm me if anyone's selling AT.

yeah the 1200cc AT sure looks promising, but i don't wanna wait till next yr haha.

actually i'm not sure why i didn't consider the tdm 900 @ all - it looks good too! maybe i'll scout ard a bit for a used one. a bmw wld def be a great choice in terms of resale value, but sadly i'm just not that into the looks.

thanks for all the inputs guys!

Go to Garage Sale Section @ http://main.slackriders.com/Forums.html

They might have AT's.
