Thanks for the tip. I tried different pumps at several petrol stn but my bike reading is always lower, so I was worried that my sensors are spoilt.

i had the same problem, but i did actually what chee yong said. What i do is just kill the engine and left the power on, and pump and monitor the pressure showing one the screen. until you hit your wanted pressure. Anyway, 36:42 is for luggage and pillor. if single, load and no load use diff pressure.

Hi , I am thinking of buying the new R1200GS liquid cool, PI was offering me 6k on whatever PML is offering. I am thinking

whether should I buy a PI or Pml cause it a 6k in saving, anyone here owns a PI any issue on parts , servicing and support?

Not sure for 1150GS, but for GSA is mineral 15W50 with oil change every 10,000km, according to manual and repair CD. I guess both engines are the same. Synthetic oil is not recommended ( I do not know why).

PI VS PML is a debatable issue. End of the day is who do you think can deliver most should ur ride have a big issue. Is PI going to handle a recall should there be any? Is that 6k worth a few major headache should a problem arise?

Read from AngMo forums, they are using car Mobile1 fully synthetic oil with good results... So I use my left over fully synthetic 5w40 car oil, after the change it works fine... Feels smoother too. However I parked 3 day in a row and the 4th day morning, I only managed to start it after a few cranks (usually start at fiorst crank) then the heart breaking metal rubbing squealing sound (from the cylinder) for a few agonizing seconds (which feels like damn pharking long time). Immediately drain out and fill it up with mineral oil 20w50. At 7dora a litre, I can change every 3 - 5K. averaging about $50 per change (Labout + K&N oil filter)

Confirmed many says 10K oil change, but at 7K I am burning oil. maybe too many traffic jam (morning loyang traffic and biweekly JB queue) degrading the oil too quickly. After the oil change, Engine oil level is stable (no more burning oil).

Conclusion... I suspect the oil I used the rating too low "5w"40, during the parking period of 3 days, the thin oil flow down easily, leaving a dry piston and cylinder wall behind. During startup insufficient oil is available to lube so causing the heart-aching metal rubbing noise.. It should be fine if I got the semi/fully synthetic with a minimum of "15w"40.

I called Looi's motor the other day and he quoted me 29k for GS800, same price listed on this.

I thought PI bikes should be cheaper than agents'?

Hi There.

I would like to seek advice about whether moving from an ST1100 to a GS1200 is a good idea.

My background - I rode a varadero 125, then a transalp 400 and then an ST1100. I had the ST for around 4 years, and sold it about a year ago (I drive now, but I miss biking).

I have always liked the GS1200 - the image; the quality; the accessories. I toured my ST as far as Phuket and I will tour on my next bike. My main use will be daily commuting to work.

My concerns about a GS are

- its huge. But even fully loaded, I expect the height and wide bars make it easy to filter on. Does its easily pass car wing mirrors (the ST doesnt as the fixed side mirrors clatter against car mirrors).

- its expensive - $36 or $41 for adventure. Does an adventure really have 5k of accessories included?

- its complicated. I'm not much of a mechanic anyway so I don't mind. Are they reliable in Singapore heat?

- practicality as a daily commuter - presumably it is ok for highway riding in heavy rain; and in full sun. Can the usual metal topboxes can take a full-face? Is it easy to hoist onto the main stand? Presumably its tricky to park in a normal bike lot, but it can bump up on the kerb. Is a GS known to have any problems as a daily commuter?

- should I be considering an older BMW or a newer one? Any major differences that make either a better choice?

- is the BMW touring club here active, inclusive & worth joining?I'd be hoping to do a trip every 2-3 months for a few days.

Sorry for the twenty questions, if anyone can provide advice, I'd be grateful.

Thanks!

LM should be cheaper. If LM quote you 29k, it might be plus insurance, road tax and some freebies. Call and check again.

I commute to work with my 1200GS (non adventure) also. So far no problem (w/o panniers) but watch out for lorries as the mirrors are higher. Surprisingly, GS handling is very good. It also can turn in tight spot. My original bmw top box can put one full face helmet. So far there is no over heating issue even it was very hot outside + jam. Finding parking space is a bit tricky. You want to find a place where you can easily come out, sometime the parking lots are very small. Squeezing in between the parked bikes can be a challenge. For me, I will parked on pavement.

Intially I got problem putting my bike on mainstand. But after a while you'll get use to it and it can be easily done by using your weight and leg power. Im abt 1.78m and 78kg... so far no problem.

Usually I tour with a group of friends (different bikes) as i prefer smaller group like 4 to 6 and I think BMW group are quite ative too.

Hope this infor helps :)

Thank you very much for your recommendation which is highly appreciated. I will stick with what is stated in the BMW Motorrad, Repair Manuals, R Models K2x GS (7th edition ) and what BMW Authorized dealer does.

Cheers!!

Hi Obverse,

I'm told by former ST11 owners that the GS is way lighter and easier to handle than the ST ever was. I doubt you have any issues there. I'm new to the GS too, and having riden nothing by choppers all my life (read : comfortable only when flat footed), i was very concerned about handling the GS in daily traffic, but having had it for 7 mths now, i think that the GS is super manageable.

Hope this helps somewhat with your concerns. IMO, if money isn't an issue, buy the GS (or GSA). You will certainly love it.
