Waste of money. If the thief want to steal your bike or accessories, they will steal it. My friend got alarm on his bike, in the end his brembo RCS still got stolen.

deters theft. doesnt prevent it. only way to prevent theft is park the bike in your house.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

Exactly.

It's a deterrent.

An incident which happened to yours truly recently.

Some guy shifted my bike and damaged the plastics. The 2-way alarm was triggered and I was alerted to it. Asked the guy to pay up. :)

In a sense, the alarm already repaid the cost in my case.

Shortens yr batt life.

If u gonna put one in, just go for the compact simple ones. No need for those fancy-schmansy ones with the 1001 features that don't really add on anything useful except the pricetag.

I used to have one with the motion sensor, but I think it is quite troublesome to me as our bikes are parked so close to each other. Every now and then it would activate when someone parks near you. It might invite people to disturb your bike instead.

IMHO, find one with tilt and knock sensor is enough. Currently using a Gorilla 8007 motorcycle alarm.

At least it would sound off and alert any passerby if there is an act of theft. :)

In the end, if you have spare cash, why not install it since it isn't really expensive as compared with other performance mods. :p

Just beware of the battery drain if you are not riding for a long time.

I couldn't find in Singapore, hence import from USA. took about 9 days to deliver. Installation takes minutes only but find a place to put take awhile lol.

liked the condom principal!!!

Well its a deterrent i agree...its best to have sth to deter then not having any..for eg. will it make it easier for the thief to take ur ride when its handle lock or not handle lock...some parts are easier to steal on bike A and some identical item arent for bike B...depends on the items on the type/make of bike i believe...Been having an alarm for my ride and so far have not been encountering batt prob etc.. maybe bcoz my use is for the time im leaving my ride at places im not sure of..just my opinion and experiences..others may have diff..

If u install an alarm,be sure that u install additional relay to prevent from frying your ECU and other vital original electrical components. This way,it wont drain your batt and do install a voltmeter to read the current status.

not gonna need it for common bikes. Phantom is all over sg, what do you want to steal also?

unless maybe your bike is more "hot" ones like super4, r1 etc etc.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

I used to have one, really cannot remember what brand but it was quite cool. when someone sits on your bike/tilts it, alarm goes off. 'warning warning, you are about to commit an offence' or someeething like that. then got another button, you press from far can start engine. then got 1 time i bodoh, never put in neutral, want to show off to my friend, start engine whole bike shoot forward into a small bunch of people who panic and duck for cover as they probably thought the bike 'came to life' hahahah!!

I used to own a cheap china made alarm on my bike. well, the quality sucks and the alarm would go off by itself!! there was a time, i was riding and the alarm went off..making me look like a bike theft.i have to stop my bike and pull the wires on the spot!! sighz!!!

Now,Im using a more expensive and reliable alarm system. So far,so good..no problem and comes with remote starter!!

Not a rider yet but I heard from people that most 2B bikes don't have alarm system. Does anyone know the reason behind it?

i think all bikes come without it(if not wrong), so you just have to install it :)

All bikes does not come with alarm. Alarm is additional accessories. But some bikes do come with immobilisers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immobiliser). Have yet to see a 2B bike with immobiliser. One reason is cost.

I see, thanks a lot of the info. I didn't know about immobiliser, means alarm system more or less only deter thieves. How much does a immobiliser cost? Just curious :/

Immobilisers come with the bike. I am not sure if they can be bought. Each manufacture uses its own immobiliser system, example Suzuki uses SAIZ, Honda uses HISS. They basically do the same function only the naming is different.

IMHO, its a fad. frankly the batt drains too quickly. Bcos i had mine install on my ST11. within days of not riding the bike couldn't start. its frustrating. since the alarm uses the batt rather abit in order to monitor the status. finally i sold off the alarm... hv to agree with the above riders on their comments..
