hey ts..juz a suggestion..y nt try rentin a car 1st every wkend to c where u stand. i did dat in my NS days too to see whether i cn cope. bt reali petrol n parkin is a killer..parkin n gettin caught in a traffic jam annoys me most..

anyway..juz fyi..i gt an opc car at e age of 24. my insurance dat tyme was 2.6k..i tink for ur age would roughly be ard der..onli wen i reached 26 den my insurance is 1k+.

take my advise..try rentin a car 1st every wkend..if u cant cope wif dat..dun bother buyin a car..coz u will be stuck wif dat car for e whole loan tenure. der is no break-even price for a 2nd hand car fyi..u buy brand new onli balance 3yrs of instalment den its break even..not like motobikes :D

you guys are really no good. always spoil a person's dream...

TS, dont worry so much la. go get a car since you need it so much.

no $ pump petrol, just park @ mscp.

no $ pay loan, just let it tow.

no $ pay parking, just let it summon.

i've got a friend, study, with no income, bought a car under uncle's name.

becos he need to drive to study everyday.

but i think his parents are fu.cking rich...

Posted

funny when the inexperience trying to get tips from the experienced result into their smug-ness and think they have the right to scold people . dont be a cunt.. please..

I think the fact that you're still an NSF, earning a bit of cash but still taking an allowance from Daddy might have riled off some ppl. :D

So take a step back and think again.

Is an OPC really necessary? Can't make do with a bike?

How about telling Dad, "keep your $650 every month and buy yourself and mom something nice" ?

Or better, how about giving $$ to your parents every month, instead of taking from them?

Or do you really still want to take $$ from them and get the OPC. And if anything should happen, you have to burden them to help them pay your loan, maintenance or repairs for the car?

Take a step back and think.

if you sign on i see no need for a car. do check out the various "car schemes" they have at very affordable rate. if you're thinking of becoming a regular, your best bet would be a red plate (off-peak) car. you do not need to "splurge" on a normal plate car. book in early, book out late.

Agreed. Army, book in early, book out late. Police, only morning shift can drive without paying that $20.

TS, Tell you what bro. Let's be friends. :cheeky:

Nice thread haha

Kiddo , if you reading this , just bear in mind that you need to make sure you have 2x your monthly installment aside for your car expenses a month (if installment is 600 a mth, u need to set aside another 600 a mth for petrol, parking, rd tax, insurance , summons, servicing ) . Alot of ppl made this mistake when they buy and own a car but forgets about maintaining it.

After paying off the car, whats left is for your daily needs. So do you think you still have enough for zouk, starbucks, movies at cathay when book out ?

after taking a step, maybe two, back, TS is finally enlightened.

He will kindly accept the $650 per month from his parents, and convince them of buying him a nice regular plate car so that he can come home sooner to fulfill his filial son duty afterall his parents can well afford it and it would pain them to see their son living with all the inconvenience of a OPC or the danger of riding a bike or even worse to see him bullied by the inefficient public transportation.

in the eyes of a rich parent, it is giving them a head start in life.

A head start to a bigger catastrophic failure later in life...?

A got a friend who dream is to own a busa in his poly days...After his father won a first price give a head start with one of the most wicked bike in bike history...

Killed his motivation end up repeating for another 2 years....

Now in his 30s jobless living off his poor old father working part time....And a part time degree but I never see carrying any books....And riding a super bike as well....Hmm....A head start....To a world of poverty.....soon....

Agreed. When you are given what you don't have, you tend to not appreciate what you already have, be it material or immaterial possessions.

But this works both ways. End up you are so afraid of losing money and start being so cheap that every single cent is counted.

if he say he need the car to fetch old grandparent?... maybe some will have diff opinions ?

so TS, it up to u to decide on the purposes...

but if it is for the comfy or the "have to own car to let ppl see"

pls dont ,work for another 2 yrs...

make sure u have enough in the bank for rainy days...

my 2cts....cheers...

OP, you are either a troll or downright silly to envision a car at your age and financial means.

Its silly, tethering at the brink of financial disaster to go into debt to buy a car/bike.

Its complete bollocks to rely on daddy's money at this age to finance a car...at your age I was on me own trying to save a few quid here and there mate.

Singapore's BMW option is not the best but its close to perfection..give it a go, you might even like it :)

Never buy anything you cant afford to pay for especially if it depreciates as fast as you lay your trotters on it.

Its silly to pay for a car or bike on installments, especially in Singapore where a car or bike is not a necessity and is ridiculously but rightly expensive.
