I believe if overhauling if done by a competent mechanic will result in a bike as good as new.

Had previously did my Engine overhaul by a "COMPETENT" mechanic... (one of the famous mechanic in the EAST)

Because mine is a V-engine, I'm more particular in getting the right guy to do the work.

However, this "Expert" did a Half F**k job... b'cos he is quitting his job!!!

Paid $$$, job not done properly and worse still ~ betrayal from a mechanic I patronise for years!!!

Simple rule of thumb. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Engine got little bit of problem, don't really open up and touch it. Unless it cannot move or explode then go ahead.

take overhaul as an operation.

human body not feeling well, operation. bike's engine condition no good, overhaul.

difference is doctor no good, human dies. mechanic no good, bike fked up, but still can do again.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

hey guy so now i had actually overhaul my engine but i feel that my bike is very slow. is this normal?

You need to take it easy for the first 1500km or so and 'break in' the engine. If you want a responsive machine try to vary the revs and keep changing the gears to vary the engine loading. Do -lots- of engine braking to generate vacuum to help seal the piston rings faster.

After that break in stage and if you sealed the piston rings well, that's when you'll get the power back. If you know a few tuning secrets, you can get lots and lots of power without any penalty to reliability by deliberately buying a freshly overhauled 'no power' bike and then breaking it in yourself. Conditioning the engine for hard running actually can prolong its lifespan (personal experience).

I believe many of us don't have the slightest idea why or when a overhaul should be carry out?

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

I only know that you should overhaul if the damn thing

1) Piston seize/Jam/Cannot start

2) Total loss of power/compression.

Other than that, dont touch the damn thing haha.

Bikes manufactured recent yrs have higher tolerance level thus seldom have the need for overhaul.

Improper modification of bikes might caused pre-mature damaged/spoilt thus having the need to overhaul and replaced faulty components.

Hi,

I'm on a V-Twin for years. I realise that not many mechanics can over-haul a V-Twin as most of them are dealing more with in-line engines. After over-haul, the tuning done on the engine is important too as the bike will probably not response / feel the same as before.

The engine is designed to run at certain life-span and will not last forever. It will be more costly if over-haul is not done when necessary.

I've done a top over-haul on my previous bike before and there wasn't any problem. The current owner is happy with riding on my previous bike for long distance trips.

You may want to find a good mechanic to re-service your bike so that you are happy with your ride. By the way, what bike are you riding?
