I believe LTA had done it research and study on various country using different sets of manning requirement. As all of us are aware that we ought to be greatful that the system here in singapore is quite strict. It contribute to the economy of singapore.

Just my 2 cents worth

Having said that I had just passed my Class 2 this morning.

Phase out 2-stroke bikes and raise 2B to 250cc. Scrap 2A. That's the best.

Ok after examining all inputs, thread MOderator pls propose to LTA:

1) Class 2B four-stroke up to 250cc

2) Class 2B two-stroke up to 200cc

3) Class 2A up to 600cc

4) Class 2 > 600cc

LTA, PLS APPROVE ASAP ! hehe THanks ! :thumb:

driving license ?

shouldn't something be made as well ?

class 3(i)- 1200cc and below ?

class 3(ii)- 1800cc and below ?

class 3(iii)- 2400cc and below ?

class3(iv)- >2400cc ?

Sometimes i wonder y everyone scrutinize riders only >.

what abt drivers? they also speed, change lane recklessly, use hp when driving, anyhow park and block bike parking lots etc.

if the lta/tp would talk abt statistics that younger riders then to die on the roads, what are the figures for young drivers ? how many bike accidents are caused by the rider recklessly riding vs how many bike accidents are caused by reckless driving (no signaling/not checking blindspots and cutting into path of biker ? ) ...Maybe a study should be done on this matter by a goverment body ? lol

to be honest i think a bigger bike = more safety you can actually prevent those ppl in tin boxes from tailgating u....

Those impressionable youths who just got their class 3 license think they are the king of the road, NB, see bike only want to bully, even in car park also want to cut...

C.B. Been driving 8 years, riding 8 months, see this type of thing happening in 2008... Small punk got new job, pay small down payment a couple of thousand with his first month salary, ask father to be guarantor can drive away a car. :faint:

Then Kay Kian go and Zhng a few parts, think they very "Sat" go and speed and play corner.

Really feel like banning all young drivers until they pass 25. :angry:

TP must be stricter in issuing class 3 license, should give them Class 3B as well ! :D

Turtle... See how many bikers killed because idiot driver like them try to be 'Intial D', 'Too fast too furious' zip in here and there.

End up biker had to E-brake/Sian them, and because there are no witnesses, to close the case, TP just say that after a thorough investigation, we found that the accident happened because rider was careless/ speeding and the rider 'Self skided, Lost control , crashed and died of fatal injuries'. :angry:

Motorcyclist are the nicest people on the road, try not to kill us.

I don't like the 3-tier bike license, but I can think of two reasons why it should remain.

1. Just take it that the minimum age to ride a 600cc bike is 20. Most people want to ride it asap, which is 19 if we have a 2-tier license. One thing these people overlook is that their insurance will kill them, so they may not get their dream bike at 20 anyway.

2. Hopefully the time needed to get a class 2 license means the rider will exercise some self-control. License revoked? It'll be three years before the rider can ride a 600cc bike. (One year suspension + two years of class 2B/2A.)

And once you get your class 2 license, it doesn't matter how many tiers there are! :lol:

It's true for all young road users I'm sure, when you first got your license you just couldn't get enough of the road. I personally think that there is no way you can totally prevent people from behaving recklessly. When I'm on the road I strictly stick to the belief that life is bigger than ego. At the end of the day it's you who have to take care of yourself.

I don't know, don't ask me.

and u can see more riders die if its this way...

y bikes have this systems its becuase of the power it gives...

i believe many of riders who just went to enroll for 2a can feel the huge differences in power just by a super 4...

and then the power of class 2...

i feel its logical and safer to maintain this system for bike but for cars.. i strongly feel that they need to review the classes..

a newly aquired class 3 18 year old kid who got rich parents can easily buy 3 litre or more powerful car and kill more ppl on the road...

maybe LTA feels that its better to kill other ppl than die urself...

Its economics, rich people can buy expensive cars for their kids. The most expensive bike money can buy doesn't even come close to the cost of the cheapest Mercedes, thus doesn't contribute much to the country.

I believe licence system should be restricted based on Power-weight ratio rather than engine capacity alone. For example, 2A riders can ride bikes with limited power-weight ratio equivalent to say, a Super4, so even a Harley Davidson Sportster 883 will qualify.

How about that? :D

Agree with some bros that car should have classification like bike...

Had some nightmare with big cars that were driven by youngsters. Experienced being tailgate by them on left lane, swerve into the lane from filter lane anyhow like nobody business causing me and another car behind to perform E-brake... That time we were clearing the big junction under the fly-over at at YCK rd around 60km/h...

My ideal system

1) Restricted Learner licence class 2B - Restricted to 125cc/15hp *L Plate

For new riders aged 16-18 years.

New Riders will be on probation for two years, after which can apply for Restricted Class 2 licence.

Class 3 licence holders above age of 21 will be able to ride 2B bikes without additional licence, only need to pass a theory test.

2) Learner Licence class 2A - Restricted to 250cc *P Plate

For new riders aged 18-24 years.

New riders will be on probation for two years, afterwhich can apply for full class2 licence if above the age of 24 then.

If still under the age of 24, rider will have to go for Restricted class 2 licence first.

3) Restricted Licence Class 2 - Restricted to 660cc bikes with 200hp per tonne limit *P-Plate

For new riders above age of 24 years

New riders will be on probation for one year, afterwhich can apply for full Class2 licence

4) Full class2 Licence - Unrestricted

This system will not only allow younger people to start riding, but also force them to ride responsibly for 2 years on underpowered machines.

On the other hand, more mature adults who require a cheap form of transport can quickly go into the world of motorcycles, without needing to start on tiny bikes. This will certainly ease traffic congestion.

*200hp/tonne means bikes like ZX6, R6, CBR600, GSXR600 ( 700++hp/tonne) will not qualify.

What nEO is writing above post is pretty much what they do in Europe, but much simpler.

To translate into Singapore system that would be equivalent to:

Class 3 can ride a bike to max 125 cc

Class 2a goes up to 600 cc, then 2 year probation.

Class 2 is above 600 cc.

However what i think what Singapore lacks, whatever way you re-arrange the categories, is the experience you get at riding school.

There is no way a fresh license 2b rider is experienced enough to go on the road even after TP is passed.

Most classes are only on closed circuit, then you go on the public roads for a few lessons on a very determined road path, which you know by heart very quickly. You are totally not exposed to real time and true traffic of major roads, busy intersections and let alone expressways.

In Europe in addition to the closed circuits, once you pass your QDL then you go on any open roads even expressway (equivalent to NS Hwy) with an instructor following you with an intercom system.

It takes far longer to get your license in terms of time and the failure rate for first timers is very high, also much more expensive as on the road it is one on one.

However once you do get your ticket, although you still have very little experience, you have been exposed to pretty much all the different situations traffic wise that you will encounter as a rider.

There is no way a 2b freshly grad is experienced enough to go on the PIE, hence the very high rate of accidents in Singapore with the young 2b riders.

If you ride a GTR or ZZR 1400 we want to hear from you at www.kawa1400.blogspot.com

The ideal system for me would be:-

Class 2B --> 16 years old, 400cc or less

Class 2 --> 17 years old with one year 2B experience, 401cc and above

Class 3 --> 18 years old

:)
