i admired your determination for wearing gear. very impressive considering you have not gotten a license.

 

as much as i advocate all the gear all the time, its not possible during BBDC because you spend a bit of time waiting as well, and the speeds are generally slow, so you will feel quite stuffy.

 

dont have to worry though, because traffic withnin bbdc more or less controlled, so no need to be too afraid of falling or crashing.

 

once you got your license though, get yourself a nice set of gear to protect yourself.

 

people will laugh at you (already obvious if you read earlier replies), people will stare at you, but hey, its your bike, your choice.

 

most people here just dont have a culture of wearing gear.

Though I feel that the protection provided by the centers are quite sufficient as u will generally be ridin at a slow speeds.

 

But once u get ur license, please do get the full gear.

 

Personally, I used the gears frm the ctr last time cept for helmet. That one also juz a basic one. after that sure must take a long bath! Haha

 

On a side note, somehow I feel that when ur over dressed(gears and all) the instructors tend to notice u more so slight mistakes, they may penalize when u could get away with it. Heh. Juz my tots.

Don't get the misconception that with full gear you're completely safe, it is still no substitute for safe riding and if bopian, defensive riding.

 

Right on. With full gear, at least your more protected, but nothing beats riding safely, and being aware of the road conditions and what lies ahead.

I was under the impression that when they have full gear, they'll be more confident, take more risk. Then again, I was wearing slippers, bermudas and a shirt, wearing open face and no gloves yet I still take risks. To each his own I guess.

Usually I find ppl who wear gears more careful on the roads..

 

I know I might get flamed for saying this, but wearing gears make me think the rider is more concerned of his own safety, n thus more careful.

But if ur getting a FF and full gear for ur practical,U must be prepared.Cuz SOME of the instructer or tester would pick on those people thinking that they are a "Racer" type when they graduate thus making them hard to pass or get their license.My advise is that when u graduate then u get them ba~ Anyway for ubi CDC they don't allow student to wear FF for practical unless its flip up type.Instructor has alr mention during the first lesson of the practical~

for budget and stuffs, here's my notes for the gear.

 

Flip up: u can get from Regina.

Cheaper = Zeus, Rjays ($100+)

mid range = Nolan N103, Caberg Konda ($200-300)

High end = Shoei Multitec ($550 +)

Uber range = Schuberth C3 only at Chiap Lee ($850)

 

Open Face:

Cheaper = MHR, Zeus. ($50 - $100)

Mid Range = OGK, HJC, AGV, Nolan ($200 - $300++)

High End = Shoei, Arai ($500 and above)

Nolan and AGV have half cap, PSB approved. Will be very cooling, and probably good for your future cruiser.

 

Jacket: Chong Aik have some cheap one. Around 120. It's good enough, and it is full mesh. Full mesh jackets are very cooling, and you wouldn't feel that much heat as perceived by many.

Regina's and Motoworld, are around $180 and above. Personally, the difference is just aesthetic. They serve the same purpose, and get torn will the purpose is served.

GR (dainese), $400 and above.

 

Gloves: Don't really need full leather. You can get mesh gloves with leather at contact points. They will do, and easily machine washable. Get knuckle gloves at the very least.

 

Riding shoes - 3/4 cuts will do. I will wear riding shoes will learning, cos I don't want to damage my shoes. Riding shoes have added protection at the gear lever area, and that's very helpful. ^^

Check out Regina for Puma, Alphinestars and Sidi, and Motoworld for RS Taichi one. Price range, around $200 and above.

Dont be too hasty with the purchases of the full battle order gears first. Its good to be fully dressed up but go thru 1-2 rounds of practical lessons before committing. Check out the crowd. Check out the circuit. Check out the heat. The last thing you want is heat exhaustion where you will have giddy spell and may ended rear ended into someone else.

 

Once you are comfortable with the environment. Its never too late to go for the full battle order.

Got one small difference, racers hit straights and corners at break neck speeds, illegal racers do the same except in traffic.

 

Anyway, want to get full gear, might as well get the up there ones, Dainese full body leather with airbags, boots, gloves, Arai fullface. Then you're safe-er.

unfortunately circuit training will never come to a point where air will circulate through the mesh of jackets LOL though i suppose mesh jackets wont be too bad as long as you get something brightly coloured.

take it as an investment, once you pass you can still use it!

 

i also need to highlight on perception. So what if it is "too much" to be well protected while taking riding lessons? Its your body, you better take care of it.

Recommend not to buy these high end gears first.

Once u see all people not wearing them, you will be paiseh to wear.

Plus it's damn too hot.

not advisable to wear so much gear... i tried wearing mesh jacket during my 2A at bbdc AT NIGHT... i sweat like raining inside my jacket lar.. it was so hot, even though there is no sun.. cux at such low speeds, no matter how good or porous ur mesh, there is no airflow at all!

I wouldn't recommend wearing a full face helmet for lessons as they tend to block out sound. It will be harder to hear what the instructors are saying and you won't be able to make your questions easily heard. You won't really be able to communicate with your classmates either.

I wud suggest min:

riding shoes like tcx Jupiter or similar,

ur own knee guard at least next time can wear under ur jeans..

And a good pair of gloves and good helmet.

 

Elbow guard can use the center one.

Next time got bike then wear jacket and ff helmet.

 

Liddat shud be relatively safe enuf to survive if u buang on circuit bike....

 

U only need to buang one time and if u lucky enuf....will appreciate wearin the proper gear...

 

Hate to see ppl buying those construction cotton gloves...only a false sense of security.....

For learning, just proper mesh armoured gloves, open-face helmet, knee guards and elbow guards. I always wore these when I took my 2B, 2A and 2. Trust me... if you wear full-face helmet in the riding school, it will be too hot. Knee guards and elbow guards are important because most of the time when we fall, we will most likely hurt the knees and elbows.

 

Now on the road, I am wearing mesh armoured jackets, full leather gloves, knee & shin guards and full face helmet.

Myself is wearing mesh jacket/Dainese elbow guards, Amoured gloves, street riding boots and full face helmet while riding. Sometimes wear Dainese Knee guards too.
