a little story...

met up with a friend a few days ago and have a small discussion on engine oil. he claim he can feel his bike and know when to change his oil. another butt dyno specialist. so we have a little challenge on how accurate is his butt and is it good enough to replace UOA.

i told him to leave his bike for 30mins with me and i will do a little "tune up". what i did is open up his throttle housing to clean and spary some light lubrication before fixing it back.

he came back for his bike soon enough. told him to ride his bike and tell me how it feel the next day. true enough, he told me his engine feel alot "smoother and lighter" during accelaration. he keep asking me what did i do. at first i just told him some BS like i change his engine oil, added some additive to his engine oil etc. of course he didn't buy it...

finally i told him the truth and he was cursing and swearing at me for smoking him when i LOL. so Mr butt dyno left with a now found fact about his butt and why people are paying good money for UOA...

Used Oil Analysis:Oil analysis is a quick, nondestructive way to gauge the health of an engine by looking at what's in the oil.

do we really need expensive synthetic oil? the guys at blackstone labs that make a living out of testing oil don't think so:)

What's the best oil to use?

Ah, the million dollar question. We are an independent lab, so we don't make recommendations. It has been our experience that oil is oil, and either petroleum or synthetic-based oil will work well for just about any engine.

Come on, you're holding out on me. I should use synthetic, right?

Buddy, you should use whatever you want. Synthetic oil won't guarantee a longer engine life any more than my eating organic food will guarantee I'll live until I'm 90. We here at Blackstone generally use regular petroleum-based oil because honestly, it works just as well for us.

Manufacturer recommend 10w40

Since the front no does not apply to us then i juz go with any semi syn oil with the same back no. Bike brand to be on the safe side

Manual does not state semi or fully. I wonder why.

To me good engine oil is not how good it protect the engine, it rather how long it last. The longer with the least money, the better value. Anyway bought schaeffer oil for my next oil change liao. Next month after my tour trip, I will change it.

modern dino oil is so well built i think you will need to fix a bypass filter to get the benefit of saving cost through extended use.

i think the greatest benefit of synthetic is extreme uses like tracking, very cold or hot temperature, racing, modified engine etc.

i go with a 15w40 anytime although one might be limited with the amount of choice for motorcyle oil. a 15w40 just hold it viscosity better in a share sump application most of the time.

from mxtradings. lubeszone have it too but it seem to be out of stock for quite sometimes.

the 50wt weight racing oil is indicated for motorcycle wet clutch application but not the 40wt. i quite sure it is fine to use for bike as well. the 40wt is more like a HDEO.

as far as i know the only different between the racing and normal version is the racing version have higher amount of ZDDP and a possibility of higher amount of PAO base oil added. the base oil is a mix of group III and PAO oil.

Yup. Read thu only 5w50 states that it can be use on motorcycle.

But all has similier specs and all states they have friction modifier.

Since its cheap n states in the manual of normal guy like me to understand.

Now time for me to buy a large pan and oil filter wrench and a good quality spanner.

Bro, don't use the 40 version. Have changed to the 40 and rode for around 60km. Shifting not that smooth and vibration felt at around 100kph. Now thinking want to flush out or not. Heat wise no dfferent from previous oil.

I think Carbine is using the 50 version. I need to confirm with him on the 50 version.
