Taxis:

Today on PIE I do the same thing of moving to lane 2 and gradually move past the congestion at Lornie & Adam exits. Some taxi did what they usually do, think the 1 car safety space in front of me is a space for a taxi.

However at TPY a new Honda Jazz taxi spotted me deliberately giving way to a Citycab who was stuck in the wrong lane. So I went to 'prepare to lanesplit' mode so the taxi can form up in front of me.

I then planned to filter in to lane 3 behind the Jazz on my left letting him pass first but he tapped his brakes opening up a big space.

Local drivers aren't all bad, infact the more "bike gives way to cage" incidents I make in a certain area, the traffic becomes smoother there eventually. Not that I know who's stalking me or whatever :p

necessary giving way is a plus to all road user, but many of us still having this skeptical mindset of giving way. If we understand the behavior of local road user, we can travel on the road at ease. Ex. filter in without signal, sudden change of lane... one thing for sure these habit still remain, just prepare urself will do.

When travelling behind cars/vans in the carpark do stay a distance as some of them didn't show their intention of reversing clearly.

Today I saw a interesting sight, right turn vehicle just continue despite that lorry from the incoming side approaching the junction but unexpectedly the lorry slow down. Dangerous move by those drivers.

With regards to taxis on the roads....

A taxi with a passenger is more predictable than one that is empty because it is destination bound.

An empty taxi is capable of last minute swerving, lane changes, U turns and sudden braking for no apparent reasons in the desperate search to pick up a passenger.

Bottom line is..... be wary of empty taxis.

encountered a damn rude "How Lian" BMW...almost caused accident to me :dot:

Use standard bo chup SOP - other idiot want to challenge? Let the guy pass and immediately you notice his target switches to the next vehicle in front.

Hao Lian fella will eventually make a wrong move causing traffic obstruction or even better, accident and then no more Hao Lian driver.

Bottom line is..... be wary of empty taxis.

Will be more observant to vehicle contents next time. Thanks for the tip :D

to add on, dont take it for granted that cabs with passengers are more predictable.

had a few occasions where i nearly got side-swiped by cabs where the passengers gave last minute directions for the cabbie to turn left into filter lanes.

cab just did a last minute swerve, lane change. sometimes, they also do last minute e-brake, reverse then turn into the filter lane. luckily i anticipated, else i would be minced meat by now..

i guess bottom line should be, be wary of all taxis, empty or loaded. esp since they could be on the roads for long hours, attention span and concentration on the roads would be relatively lower.

I had an epiphany these past few days having swapped my old 12-yr-old Duke M900 with a brand new MV Agusta Brutale 1078 RR.

Since my Brute is brand new, it requires running in and in the process of running in, I will not stray more than 100km/h, riding slowly, carefully not to rev and speed in and out of lanes has given me a new perspective in riding. Riding defensively and politely has been quite enjoyable. Keeping to my lane, riding 2 cars length behind a car and giving ways to other vehicles exposed other drivers to be polite and courteous too.

I hope I ingrain this riding habit into me even after running in my brute.

damn, a brutale.

i really really really hope to see you around, or hear you around someday.

today while riding (more to pillioning)

saw an r1 racing on the expressway, swerve here and there. we ate his smoke.

500m later, we saw the rider on the side of the road, down on the ground. skidded.

well apparently, you can ride a sportsbike but not have the maturity to treat it like one.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

Wow you're really lucky. I've never seen one in the flesh before. At that price, I think a bike of that brand is really out of reach for most people.

I have no idea how there are some Ah Peks on their Racing Phantoms can cruise at 130kph all day. I sooo want my chain and sprockets to wear out faster so I can have them replaced with custom ratios :D

Same for the tyres. I need stickier rubber so I don't play Tokyo Drift under full torque/low speed corner situations. But no, they are more or less indestructible! Which is a good thing in the end, non? (keeps me safe too) :D

You are very right on that. Best thing is, practise some HOV skills, see taxi flag high priority right away. Sometimes the cabbies return the favour, don't underestimate a courteous bike rider; you'll be a celebrity in no time because the bike is more recognisable as a personal vehicle.

So yes, you don't need to do stunts to be famous. Ride courteous.

I very much respect big bike riders who can ride in slow convoys with precision saving their immense horsepower for convoy security purposes (marking, sweeping etc).

Others just get in my way. DON'T swerve into my lane to check out my hair of all things!

Was driving earlier on the middle lane about 70km/h, when this bike turned out from the Shell pump straight to my lane. Haa, be-careful riders pls, do check for vehicles.

Don't want to be wiped by them flying few hundred feet!

Cheers

Also saw a fleet of Ducati riders (all Class 2), like 12 to 15 of them, their engine sounds are awesome, all in proper formation riding down Bukit Timah road heading toward Tuas (Second Link) I believe!!

Awesome formation and pace.

LOL, at PG right after pump petrol. Actually before I had slipper clutch I also do not know what functions it served until I wiki it.

To realise the full potential of the slipper clutch... is only at the race tracks. It was designed for racing purposes.

I beg to differ, I think it benefits everyday riding too, especially downshifting to use engine brake to come to a stop or turn into a corner. Less stress on the engine, so less wear and tear.

yesterday after parking my bike, noticed the bike next to me had his keys dangling at his box and his cashcard still inside the IU. took both and put it inside his bike compartment and left a note then went on my way. came back and found a thank you note on my bike

today while riding. met several cork drivers on the road. a chevy spark cant find the patience to wait at his stop line and dash out onto oncoming traffic yet slowly took his time to accelerate :sian: me and several cars had to jam brakes cos he cut across several lanes slowly.

then nearly got clipped by an audi A4 who lanesplitted between me and another bike (we were both in middle of our own lanes approaching traffic light so we slow down). the stupid stunt caused me and the other bike to wobble like shat cos he accelerated very hard thru us. then at the expressway, the bugger have no lane discipline. drifting all the way between lane 1 and 2 then switching lanes without signal. idiot driving dangerously with his family onboard :sian:

u need to be young and reckless to become old and wise..... if u survive
