Hi SX,

The first thing to do is to cover your bike whenever you go, that's what I normally will do unless it is within my sights.

I have get in touch with the MP on implementing parking hooks in our MSCP with retractable option. A few of the authorities have wrote back to me with negative feedback & the HDB had a trial project on that issue. Currently Sengkang police station is following up with me to come up with a proposal. We see how it goes..

Btw, installing alarm on the bike may be a hazard as well. If the electronics short-circuit, I believe the Fire & theft insurances does not covered this part unless I'm wrong.

Actually our environment is much safer than USA & England where their bike is not even safe on the street.

I know how you feel!

Alex

Hi There,

At your mscp try to know other fellow riders usaully park at the same mscp- make friends..this way each of you/us knows whose the owner of the bike is...!

Make an effort to say Hi..! it goes along way!!! whether you ride RXK or Busa...we all are riders...keep and eye on each others bike..

Any strangers loitering around the mscp or near the bikes/car -give a call to the npp let them deal with it...!

How about in Malyasia?

I believe it is notorious of motor vehicle thefts.

If park in hotel, if we give some tips to security guards to pay more attention to our bike, advisable? I have not tried tt before.

How abt Malaysia public carpark? Shd we totally avoid?

Anyone has experience parking in Malaysia and would like to share?

People ask me, "Why ride bike?" I ask them back :"Why drive car?"

Normally I will go in with at least 3-4 friends. Avoided those isolated places.

If you guys are going to do some shopping, then park at the carpark of shopping centre and chained the bikes together.

Try to use those thicker chain and lock, if not it defeats the purpose. Chaining the bikes up will definately make it hard for those scums.

If you guys are parking at MSCP, my advice is that try to vary the lots that you park your bike. Dun always park at the same old place / storey / lot / carpark if possible. Those scum definately do some scouting before they take action. Dun be an easy target.

park in front of the npp, its impossible for anyone to vandalise/ steal your bike

Hi bros,

Don't be over confidences  expect the unexpected this should be riders slogan....he,he,he...!

A bike was stolen in (PA) police accedamy bike park reasonly... would give you an idea!!!

There are other ideas you people can do, If you are going to malaysia spray WD40 into your ignition hole to prevent some ass*ole to squeeze a super glue into it...! this can prevent the parts from glueing inside.

Brilliant! How to go about doing it?

Hi Bro,

Start doing it today why wait! see a fellow rider say hi, ask about his/her bike sure the rider will respond..! start a topic like how much you bought the bike, helmet, where you service or anything spare a few seconds...

This what I do! see a fellow rider, new rider or a new bike in the mscp.! say HI!!-chance for you to bump into each others are very high - myself doing shift work but I know almost all the riders and their bikes..sometime during polishing or washing the bike.

Don't leave valuables in your bikes unattended? Prevention better than cure.

What maven saying is true...!

Have a bright new expensive helmet, jackets carry it back home or If you are outside you can lock your jacket in box- still able to ride without a jacket not a helmet!!! carry it along.

Mostly helmets is the thief's favorite item...(this happened few years ago!) my brothers helmet FFagv was cut off from his bike's helmet lock- park just a few meters away from where he is seated at a coffee shop..which was in his view....so !! there are some daring thieves out there!

i think parking in a isolated place isnt much use. ( bikes can get stolen in suntec with cctvs) best is to use a combination of all 3.

No offense to Crumpler, but this forum is loaded with thread-stealers, lame jokes and unconstructive comments.

Maybe we need a campaign to stop it and educate fellow users so that it will not get worse.

how many times do we have to endure off-colour jokes and such?

For the thieves issue, just install alarm and cover it. That's about all we bikers can do.

Dun depend on the police, they can't do much.

It's not how exp ur bike or accessories is, thieves will always be thieves. That shd explain my missing tyre bipple caps, handle bar balancer...etc. Doesn't cost much, steal for what. But it is very troublesome and pissed off for the owner.

We are lucky in a sense that unlike other countries, we rarely have cases where the entire bike go missing forever.

Spend some cash and get the alarm.

QUESTION:

Will putting a lock on the ERP unit deter thieves or izzit gonna attract thieves?

i just bought a small lock at pasar malam, tested it and it fit nicely. i intended to just leave it there (without cashcard inside obviously) so anytime i use cashcard, the extra effort will remind me to take out plus if i still forget, well its locked. i very rarely go pass erp gantry, so those few times i put in, confirm i forget take out. and confirm gone........

but when i alk away from bike, it suddenly occurred to me that placing the lock there might end up attracting thieves who will think i leave cashcard inside and lock the unit. i then considered leaving it there a few days see if it end up broken; then i'll know. then i realized fella break the lock no worries but if the lock realli good its my erp unit he's gonna break........

so i wanna ask if anybody tried this method before. typically would-be thieves will see lock and decide not to waste time and effort in breaking, or they really even more determined?

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

cover your bike with a very dirty bike cover. those kind that with any physical contact and it will dirtied your hands..

i guess will keep theft away.. cos they wont be bothered to lift up the cover.

There're 4 common things you can do to deter theft.

1) Park in a well lit spot where many ppl pass by in the day, and is visible from many points at night (hopefully your house windows, or a street)

2) Install a good alarm, with good shock sensors and ultra loud siren... and arm it when you park... :p

3) Get a brake disc lock. Real strong one.

4) Cover your bike. Make sure it's tied up tight enough that undoing it will set off the alarm if armed.

Basic things. But used together, provides an effective deterrence. Of course, if someone really wants your bike, it's probably a goner... but at least this will stop small time crooks.

Oh yeah... there is a no. 5....

5) Get at least TPFT (3rd Party Fire & Theft.... aka 2nd party) insurance in case ALL ELSE FAILS.

a bit impractical right? Imagine you going work in the morning, every morning got dirty hands, if not careful, clothes also dirty. Yup, you won't lose your bike, but you might lose your job!

Park at area where others bikes are, visible to others (beware of TP in case U do illegal parking) Installed a lock system (does it apply to smaller bikes).

Lastly pray hard...:cheeky:
