I have never heard of chroming to be illegal.

in which aspect of safety would it be infringing?

to date... cars have extensive vinyl decals stuck all over their vehicle.

so what is chroming?

As claimed, There's a need to drive when we have a Family. But all that is needed to ride is Dream... Many are still dreaming about it.

you cannot get chrome through diy.. if its the chrome effect you are trying to achieve by diy.. yes there is.. hard work is needed and lots of time.. and the effect wont last long.. go buy meguires metal polish.. its a purplish tub, you can find it at giant and carrefour.. the polls section got a picture of the product and you effect you can achieve through using that..

Chroming is an electroplating process. Read here to find out more :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroplating

There is no DIY chroming kit nor the chroming process be achieved by spraying or polishing. Not all metals can be chromed, and definitely no one in Singapore can chrome plastic.

There are many shops in the industrial parks that can do chroming but many will not entertain you if you walk in with just one piece.

Local chroming process is not architectural standard, so don't expect it to shine and last like those on Harley.

Chroming is actually very cheap, and there is economy of scale however these shops know how to size up their customers good and proper especially youngsters walking in with bike parts to chrome.

Typically for a single cylinder header pipe, it's about $80. And don't expect it to last especially if the surface is already pitted with rust spots.

For enduring chrome work, send it in when it is new but that sounds rather silly

i've tried all 4 chrome plating shops used by local bike shops in sg.

So far the best result I've gotten is from Star Electro Plating at Geylang Bahru.

Blk 81 Geylang Bahru #01-2650/2652 Singapore 339689

They charged me $50 to chrome a luggage rack.

This luggage rack was abit rusty only, but I itchy backside went to Kallang to chrome, bloody shop chromed it for $40 but whole thing look like it had a bad case of acne.

The shop blamed it on the rust, which wasn't alot at all.

Then I went to Star, and they told me rusty or not, it is the shop's duty to prepare the surface before plating it. If done right, rusty or not, also can chrome. Especially when mine is only a few dots here and there.

True enough, they gave me back a rack which is mirror finished chrome.

I would describe that as a "polished" treatment. It will never give a chrome (mirror) finish.

ok polished treatment if you would like to call it.. that's what most pple would want to achieve through diy, to make it as close as chrome as possible..

If the part is chromed, polishing it over time will remove the chrome layer and it will end up having a tarnished surface.

i did it a month back using paint remover to my rim..just clean once per week..it will be shiny..try avoiding water lol..
